Heat-Proof Summer Makeup Tips

While we all want our makeup to last the distance, sometimes the heat and humidity can cause creasing, oily patches and even shiny skin. This summer, prep your face with a few of our beauty-bag essentials for heat-proof summer makeup.

Prime

Before applying your foundation, it’s important to use a primer on freshly cleansed skin. Not only will it make your foundation last longer, but it creates a barrier between your skin and the makeup itself so it won’t clog your pores! Wait 1-2 minutes until the primer has completely set into the skin, then apply your foundation as usual.

Blotting sheets

If you suffer from particularly oily skin, you might know that patches are a fact of life. Carry a few blotting sheets in your handbag to soak up the excess oil, and keep your skin matte for longer.

Cream products

Using cream products is the best way to make the most of your natural oils during the summer. A cream highlighter, illuminator, bronzer and blush can be easily applied with just the fingertips, and is ideal if you’re creating a natural makeup look.

Oil-free moisturiser

Before prepping your skin for foundation, it’s important to lock-in hydration with an oil-free moisturiser. These formulas are great for summer since they won’t clog your skin with additional oils, and will keep it looking matte for longer.

Contour Your Eye Makeup Like A Pro

We’re all familiar with contouring our cheekbones, legs, and even arms but is it actually possible to contour your eyes? We show you just a few simple techniques which could revolutionise the way you apply your makeup forever!

RELATED: How To Contour Your Face in 3 Easy Steps

Highlight

Bring some extra attention to the inner corner of your eyes by contouring with a highlight in this area. Any light white or yellow shade is ideal since it illuminates the area without closing up the eye. Dab it with a small eyeliner brush, or with your fingers.

How To Contour Your Eye Makeup

White eyeliner

Everyone must be familiar with this simple trick to make your eyes bigger – using white eyeliner. Simply line both your top and bottom waterline with a white pencil to open up the area, and give the illusion of bigger eyes.

How To Contour Your Eye Makeup

Define the eye

Use a shade which is slightly darker than your skin tone, and with a tapered brush, focus the product in out the outer corner of your eyes. Just think of it like contouring your face! Make sure to blend it out properly with a clean tapered brush before applying the rest of your eyeshadow.

How To Contour Your Eye Makeup

Extra tips

DON’T: Black eyeliner

Sometimes this could actually be making your eyes look small and tired. Don’t link it to your inner corner, and make sure to blend it out when perfecting a smokey eye.

DO: Curl your lashes

It’s the little things which make the biggest amount of difference, and one of them is curling your lashes. Although these tools can look a little scary at first, you’ll find a technique which works for you! Curl them before and after applying mascara – but only once it’s dry, otherwise you’ll get some transfer on the curler.

How To Wear Pastel Makeup For Summer

There’s no denying that summer is all about embracing lighter, brighter makeup for both day and night. Use this to your advantage and master the pastel trend for eyes, lips, cheeks and nails with our easy tips below.

Eyeshadow

If you suffer from extremely oily eyelids or simply want your makeup to stay put for hours on end, use a cream shadow. They are so quick and easy to apply if you’re on-the-go and require no touch-ups. Look at the colour wheel and choose opposing shades which will pop on your eyes.

How To Wear Pastel Makeup

Mascara

Put away that black mascara in favour of something a little more festive! If your lashes are naturally light brown or blonde, use a blue or brown mascara to make your eyes stand out. Just remember to curl them for best results!

How To Wear Pastel Makeup

Lips

We’re all about those light pink lips, and a subtle lip liner is the best way to make this happen. Carefully line your lips emphasising the cupids bow in the centre, then fill in any gaps with a lipstick of similar colour.

How To Wear Pastel Makeup

Cheeks

To achieve those rosy cheeks, use a cream or tint on the inside of your face. This brings a healthy, youthful glow and blends in beautifully for all skin tones – even those which are more dry and dehydrated!

How To Wear Pastel Makeup

Nails

Finish off this look with a vibrant manicure which will be your go-to all summer long. For best results, soak your nails in a bowl of lukewarm water, push back the cuticle and file your nails. Wait until each layer of nail polish has dried completely before securing it all with a top coat.

Split ends

Tired of those split ends ruining your look? Apply a tiny drop of lip gloss onto your ends for to easily manage split ends. Don’t apply too much since it can completely ruin your clean hair!

8 Wedding Makeup Mistakes To Avoid

Are you planning to do your own makeup for your wedding? Bridal makeup should look natural and never too heavy – especially for those crucial wedding photos! So, to ensure you achieve a flawless base on your big day, here is a list of common makeup mistakes to avoid:

RELATED: 5 Stylish Bridesmaid Hair Ideas

1. DO: Prime

Always use a primer to create a flawless base for your makeup. This is crucial if you have dry or oily skin which is hard to manage at the best of times.

2. DON’T: Try something new

Your wedding day isn’t the best time to try a new product which might react badly to your skin. Stick to what you know and use products which will complement your skin type and texture.

3. DO: Book a trial

If you’re getting your makeup done by a professional, book in a trial a few weeks before your wedding. This is crucial since the makeup artist will try a few different looks on your skin, and also so you can determine which one is best for your wedding day.

4. DON’T: Contour

Self-contouring is never really a great option, especially if you don’t have the correct tools or techniques. If you are going to contour, use a light hand and carefully accentuate the cheekbones with a slightly dark, matte bronzer. Leave the concealing and highlighting to the professionals for this one.

5. DO: Wear lipgloss

Lipgloss is typically easier to maintain since it’s so quick and easy to apply – even without a mirror! Matte, shimmery, or even long-lasting lip colours can bleed on the lips and need to be re-applied with care every few hours.

6. DON’T: Wear SPF

Any type of foundation with SPF is going to create a white caste in your wedding photos – this is just a fact of life. To avoid this, use a blotting powder to decrease the shine, or simply take your wedding photos at the beginning of the day.

7. DO: Stay natural

A natural makeup look is a safe option since you know it will suit your skin tone. Anything too dramatic will look rather out of place in your wedding photos and might not match the look of the bridesmaids.

8. DON’T: Fake tan

While it might seem tempting, you should skip the fake tan on your wedding day. Not only can it stain your dress, but it isn’t a good combination for the warmer weather. If you do want a natural glow, use a body shimmer on your decolletage, arms and legs.

5 Makeup Trends That Need To Stop ASAP

Have you ever seen a makeup trend that you think needs to end? We’re counting down five of the most over-used trends which celebrities have tried, YouTube guru’s are overdoing, and those that should just never see the light of day.

RELATED: How New Beauty Trend Alert – Ombré Brows

Contouring

While contouring is wildly popular, it’s often quite difficult to get it right. We say you should leave that technique to the professional makeup artists who blend the colours seamlessly without resulting in a shade which is too dark (or too light for your natural skin tone).

5 Makeup Trends That Need To Stop ASAP

Kylie Jenner lips

The ‘big lip’ look had it’s moment, now lets never mention it again. Even Kylie Jenner herself admitted to injecting her lips, so isn’t it finally time to stop over-drawing our lips? Anyway, taking more than 1 hour to get ready is completely overrated.

5 Makeup Trends That Need To Stop ASAP

Bronzing

While we’re all guilty of this one, matching your foundation to your fake tan is never really a good option. Why? Most women actually forget to blend it into their neck, decolletage and even behind their ears!

This means that your makeup actually looks quite patch, and doesn’t look natural at all. Always get matched by a professional who can identify if your skin is warm or cool toned.

5 Makeup Trends That Need To Stop ASAP

False lashes

Now, we’re not talking about individual lashes or the natural kind which actually look quite nice! It’s time to retire those false lashes with diamonds, thick bands and colours which are too heavy for most of our eyelids. If you want the illusion of bigger lashes, use a few corner strips on the side of your eyes.

5 Makeup Trends That Need To Stop ASAP

Statement brows

Put down that pomade and embrace the natural look! While filling in our eyebrows has become second nature, this trend has clearly gone OTT over the last year. Some clear gel, an eyebrow pencil, and a brow brush is really the only thing you need to tame those brows on a daily basis.

5 Versatile Makeup Looks For Brides

Deciding on that final makeup look for the big day doesn’t need to be difficult, especially if you the type of look you want.

Whether you’re interested in something classic, modern or even glam, we have five main looks below which are sure to suit all brides.

RELATED: Romantic Wedding Hairstyles

Glam

A glam makeup look is characterised by a strong contour, pronounced brows, and lots of lashes. This is a fun makeup look especially if you want to play-up your features, and have some fun creating a look which translates to camera. Don’t forget to finish off with a nude lip before heading out the door.

5 Versatile Makeup Looks For Brides

Old Hollywood

Use colour to your advantage with a bright, matte lip for your wedding day. Since the lips are probably the main part of your makeup look, keep everything else muted down. A clean, fresh makeup base is a must-have so don’t forget to use a good primer to avoid an oily t-zone.

Natural

Although most brides prefer layers of makeup on their wedding day, go for something a little less high-maintenance to show off your natural beauty.

A light, powder foundation is a great option since it still lets your freckles show through in the wedding photos. Finish off the look with a cute pink blush on the cheeks.

natural

Smokey eye

Who can resist a smokey eye at the best of times? This classic look was worn by Kim Kardashian on her wedding day, and is a classic look for brides.

Since the eye makeup can be quite heavy, keep everything else toned down and make sure to use liquid products. They melt seamlessly into the skin, and can be easily touched-up for photos.

Metallics

For a natural look with a twist, why not try metallic eye makeup? It’s ideal for brides with green and blue eye colours, and is so quick and easy to achieve if you’re on a budget.

If you do suffer from oily eyelids, use a primer in conjunction with a cream eyeshadow, and remember to set your makeup with a translucent powder.

5 Makeup Tips For Sick Days

Just because you don’t feel good, doesn’t mean it should reflect on how you look!

To make the most of those sick days, use a few of these makeup tricks to de-puff those eyes, even out the skin tone, and even counteract those red eyes.

RELATED: Man Flu Turns Men Into Sick Kids

1. Use a BB cream

Rather than applying layer after layer of foundation on your already delicate skin, give it a break and use a BB cream. The formulas are usually lighter and won’t clog your pores – it’ll feel like your second skin!

Apply with your fingers, and take care around a dry nose since the makeup can gather and accentuate these areas for the wrong reasons.

Rimmel Radiance BB Cream, $12.95

2. Cream eyeshadow

Anyone with watery eyes will know that applying mascara is a no-go. Especially since it can smudge, transfer on the top eyelid, and create a mess with your entire makeup look.

To keep your eyes looking their best, use a cream shadow and lightly dab it over the top with your fingers. Stay away from dark shades which will only make your eyes look small and blood-shot.

Maybelline Color Tattoo 24H Metal Eyeshadow, $11.95

3. Blush

Who knew that a bit of blush could transform an entire makeup look? A bit of rouge on the cheeks helps to bring some glow back into the skin, without applying layers of foundation or bronzer.

Bourjois Blush, $20

4. Eyebrows

If you’re sick in bed, the last thing you’ll want to do is tame those eyebrows. To keep them looking their best, use a coloured, gel wand which is easy to apply and doesn’t take too long to set. So much easier than drawing your brows on with a pencil or gel formula.

Screen shot 2015-05-05 at 5.04.15 PM

Anastasia Beverly Hills Tinted Brow Gel, $25.52

5. Coloured lips

Rather than using a matte formula for your lips, choose a lightweight gloss or balm to keep them healthy and shiny. They require little to no maintenance, and look amazing if you’re heading out during the day or night.

Keep a few options in your handbag and switch them up during the day.

How To Achieve The ‘No-Makeup’ Look

The no-makeup look is one of the biggest beauty trends this season since it’s so quick and easy to achieve, especially if you don’t have time on your side. Regardless of your skin type, you will only need 5 essential products to transform your look for work, drinks, or even a first date.

RELATED: 5 Underrated Makeup Products

Foundation

A perfect base is a reflection of your skincare routine, so don’t ever miss out on cleansing, moisturising and exfoliating your skin on a daily basis. Before applying a foundation, use a moisturiser or primer to make it last the distance. This is an essential if your skin is dry, oily, or even combination, since it creates a barrier between your makeup and won’t clog your pores.

Screen shot 2015-04-30 at 10.41.14 AM

Rimmel Radiance BB Cream, $12.95

For a truly natural foundation look, use something with a light coverage. This could be anything from a powder foundation, BB cream, or even a tinted moisturiser. To apply, use a damp cosmetic sponge such as the Beauty Blender to carefully work the product into your skin. It may require a little more patience, but it will truly look like your skin, but better. If you just don’t have the time, apply it with your fingers – it will melt easily into the skin.

Screen shot 2015-04-30 at 11.00.09 AM

Beauty Blender Classic Sponge & Solid BlenderCleanser Kit, $42.20

Highlight

To give an extra bit of dimension to your face, a highlighter is a must-have. Powders, liquids and even balms are all great ways to give your face an extra glow for any occasion.

Dab it lightly over your cheekbone, above the cupids bow and on the brow bone to make your face glow instantly. Just remember that less is more and that it’s easier to build up your makeup rather than applying too much. Apply your makeup in natural light so you will know exactly what it looks like once you’ve left the house.

Screen shot 2015-04-30 at 10.43.46 AM

Josie Maran Argan Illuminiser, $35

Blush

A bit of blush on the cheeks can completely transform your entire look – trust us! If you’re worried about distributing too much product over your face, use a liquid formula instead. It’s easier to control and won’t leave your cheeks looking too flushed. Liquid or cream blushes melt into the skin and give a rosy appearance to your face without looking too artificial.

Screen shot 2015-04-30 at 10.45.36 AM

Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge, $44

Bronzer

There are a few different ways to make bronzer work for your skin tone, especially since it can create so much dimension in the face. Mix it into your foundation for a subtle hint of colour, use it to contour your cheekbones (just don’t forget to blend), or apply it all over for a sun-kissed glow.

If you’re worried about the bronzer looking a little too artificial, choose a formula which is matte rather than shimmery. This will only attract more light to your skin and will be a dead giveaway that the glow is in fact, fake.

Screen shot 2015-04-30 at 10.47.43 AM

Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer, $30

Mascara

Finally, where would we be all be without mascara? It’s the best way to hide a late night, hangover, or even puffy eyes after an illness. Remember to curl your lashes and apply just a thin coat to emphasise your eyes. If your lashes are blonde, use a brown mascara instead of black, since it can look quite harsh on pale skin.

Holy-Grail Makeup Tricks For Dry Skin

Applying makeup onto dry skin can often feel like you’re constantly losing a battle – with yourself. Foundation never sits the way it should, the dewy-skin look always turns into matte (by proxy), and don’t even start with cheek and eye makeup.

RELATED: 3 DIY Face Masks For Dry Skin

If you, or someone you know, suffers from dry skin, use these holy grail makeup tips which are sure to make your skin glow!

Moisturise

One of the most important tips for anyone suffering from dry skin is to keep it hydrated. Whether you’re lounging around the house on a no-makeup day, or heading out to a special event – moisturise! It will leave your skin smoother for longer and will make it so much easier to apply makeup.

Screen shot 2015-04-20 at 2.03.05 PM

Bioderma Hydrabio Riche Cream, $39.99

Cream foundation

Rather than using a powder foundation, you’ll want to stick to creamy formulas. They sink into the skin much easier than anything else, and will last longer on your skin type. For a natural look without any dry patches, use a damp cosmetic sponge to buff the product into your skin.

Screen shot 2015-04-20 at 2.00.35 PM

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation, $59

Cosmetic sponge

Brushes can often feel too harsh on dry skin types and actually create dry patches around the eye and cheek areas. Instead, bounce the cosmetic sponge over your skin for an airbrush look every single time.

Screen shot 2015-04-20 at 1.59.42 PM

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge, $15.99

Cheek and lip stains

Rather than using the same-old pressed powder which doesn’t agree with your skin type, test out a few cheek stains instead. They are so quick and easy to apply with your fingers and blend seamlessly into dry skin. Maximise on your beauty products and use the stain as a 2-in-1 for both your cheeks and lips.

Screen shot 2015-04-20 at 1.58.32 PM

Natio Cheek and Lip Tint, $10.46

Exfoliate

It might seem a little weird to regularly exfoliate dry skin, but it’s actually quite the opposite! Since your skin is prone to dryness, regular exfoliating will help to remove those dry skin cells and leave you with a flawless base. Use a charcoal scrub once a week to remove any excess skin and carefully pat down with a towel to avoid the build-up of additional dry patches.

Facial spray

Since dry skin can feel tight and itchy throughout the day, keep a facial spray in your handbag to hydrate it. Something like this will instantly bring back the glow to your face and will actually make your foundation last longer.

5 Trendy Summer Lip Colours For All Skin Tones

With the warmer weather just around the corner, it’s time to ditch those darker lip colours in favour of summer-ready shades. We’re not suggesting that you retire red, burgundy and purple colours altogether, but rather swap them for lighter shades that look perfect with a warm summer glow.

8 Makeup Mistakes You’re Making (And You Don’t Even Know It!)

It’s hard to believe, but perfecting makeup is a lifelong skill. Just think about it, really knowing your angles, colouring, and learning those valuable techniques can take a while to master, especially if you don’t have the time to take a makeup course.

To avoid these common makeup mistakes, invest in a few quality products and brushes to perfect your look and voila, makeup can be your best friend!

RELATED: Makeup Tips For Hooded Eyes

Blending

Whether it’s your eyes, foundation, or even a self-tan, never forget to blend your makeup after applying! Those lines of contour should never be too visible, so remember to blend it out as you go.

A thick kabuki brush is the perfect way to achieve a flawless look without removing all of the product from your face.

bf5edc405c69047b76009d8e6c136561

Colour match

It might feel a little tempting to buy new foundation online (especially when you haven’t tried it before and there’s a sale), but try and get your colour matched. Not only will it save you the time and money of returning a product which doesn’t suit your skin, but it’s free to do so!

There is also a handy website called Findation, which allows you to enter your current shade and it will generate other popular brands which are in the same tone. Easy!

Blush

The secret to applying a subtle blush is to layer on the product as you go. Dipping your blush brush into the pan and applying it directly onto your face is never a wise option. Tap it lightly into the pan, dust off any excess, then blend it out of your cheekbones.

Lip liner

In an effort to look like the next Kylie Jenner, it is a little tempting to over draw your lips. To make them appear larger, use a darker shade on the outside, then colour the inside of your lips with a light shade down the middle.

Use a white liner or highlighting shade on the cupids bow (just about your lips), to make it appear larger.

Dry, flakey skin

Many women will suffer from dry skin during the colder months since there is a lack of moisture in the air. To keep skin looking glowing and fresh, use a foundation with a hint of SPF.

While it does contain a little more oil, it will help to smooth over any of those dry patches, and leave your skin looking slightly sun-kissed.

Contouring

Sculpting your face is actually a little more difficult than it seems. Los Angeles based makeup artist Lilit Caradanian let us in on her insider trick for a flawless contour – a transitional shade: “You actually need a transitional colour because the dark colour needs a medium shade in order to blend into the skin. If you’re using contour powder, you also need to use a bronzer along with it.”

eva_longoria_concealer_makeup_disaster_photo_188him8-188hj37

Overdrawn brows

While we all might like to fill in our brows, it is a little easy to go overboard. Use a darker shade on the tail, and work with a brow brush in slow, fluid motions to create the illusion of thicker hair. Dust off any of the colour and work it into the centre of your brows – never close up the front!

Winged liner

Probably one of the trickiest looks to create is the winged liner. There are many ways to create it with a felt-tip, gel, eyebrow brush, or even with a stick-on stencil.

For beginners, we recommend using a thin piece of tape extending upwards from the lower lash line. Then all you need to do is trace a line over the tape, and remove it once it’s dry!

5 Tips For Using Green Concealer

Do you have a nasty spot of acne or hyperpigmentation that just won’t go away? Concealer might help, but not your standard shade  it’s just not powerful enough!

RELATED: The Benefits of Orange Concealer

To counteract the darker dimensions of your face, you require a shade which is on the opposite side of the colour wheel. In this instance, green concealer is the perfect makeup trick to cover-up all night, or simply give your face a glowing appearance.

Rule 1: Use in moderation

Don’t go too overboard with the colour! A little goes a long way. Especially if you want to keep your makeup looking as natural as possible, as opposed to drawing the wrong kinds of attention to the area. Apply the product first onto your fingertips, then directly onto your face and blend immediately.

Kim-Kardashian-Through-the-Years-07-photolist

Rule 2: Layer the product

Rather than applying the concealer directly onto your face, use it in layers for a more natural look. If you suffer from dry or combination skin, try using a damp cosmetic sponge to work the product into your face otherwise it will crease and won’t last very long.

cv

Rule 3: Set with a powder

Even if you don’t have oily skin, it’s always a good idea to set your concealer with a powder. Not only does it keep the product on your face for longer, but you won’t get any crease lines  especially under your eyes!

Screen shot 2015-04-12 at 9.43.41 PM

Rule 4: It’s safe to use on rosacea

If you suffer from redness or rosacea on your face (or body), a green-based product is a temporary way to even out the colour of your skin.

Even though green concealers will initially feel a bit different on the face, they won’t interfere with the long-term state of your skin and are safe enough to use on a daily basis. Just remember to remove your makeup every night before going to bed!

Rule 5: Conceal, then apply foundation

To achieve a flawless finish, it is important to apply your green concealer before foundation. It creates the perfect base to the skin and the foundation won’t dry-up or draw attention to any of these areas. Use a stippling brush to push the product into your skin and set soon after with a translucent powder for a long-lasting look.

4 Easy Makeup Tips for Spring

Spring calls for fresh, dewy skin and bright, gorgeous hues. Try these easy makeup tips for spring that look great on everyone.

Part moisturizer and part foundation, BB cream also works overtime as a sunscreen and an anti-aging treatment, which makes it our number one spring beauty must-have.BB cream are so light it feels like you’re wearing nothing but lotion, perfect for anyone who wants flawless skin but hates wearing heavy foundation. We love how luminous our skin looks with Dr. Brandt Signature Flexitone BB Cream, and another favorite on our shelves is Too Faced Tinted Beauty Balm.

A quick and easy way to brighten up your face is with a bright pop of lip color. If you’re feeling particularly bold and adventurous, give orange lipstick a try. True orange isn’t always the most flattering, but coral looks fantastic with pretty much all skin tones. After applying, blot your lips for a matte finish, then reapply. If you’re looking for a more subdued way to incorporate the trend, Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint has a gorgeous orange stain called Spirited that is a makeup artist favorite.

Makeup Tips For Ageing Skin

Use makeup to your advantage with a few different tips and techniques which can transform ageing skin and make you look 10 years younger. We’ve hand-picked a few tricks which help to create a flawless base, meaning you can make the most of the skin you’re in.

RELATED: Heat-Proof Bridal Makeup

Moisturise

The secret to any flawless base is consistently moisturising both morning and night. To fight against any signs of hyperpigmentation, sun damage, or even the common dry patches, it’s important to use a hydrating serum before applying your base. Not only will your makeup last longer, but it will keep your skin from feeling too dry.

Bronzer

A liquid bronzer is essential since it warms up the face without any harsh lines. You can also double it up and use it to bring some life to your cheeks as a blush, or apply it as an eyeshadow base – so easy!

Glossy lips

The secret to fuller looking lips is all about a lip liner and lip gloss. Use a rose or nude coloured liner to highlight the shape of your lips, and apply a gloss over the top to make them appear larger.

Neutral eyeshadow

Rather than going for a dark smokey eye, which can actually make your eyes seem small and droopy, it is wise to opt for neutral or earthy tones for your shadows. Cream products are amazing since they can just be applied with your hands, and melt seamlessly into the skin.

Primer

Most mature skin seems to lack the moisture and collagen, so it’s important to always prime before applying your base. A dewy primer is best since it draws light to the face without making you look like a disco ball.

Highlight

As with a primer, to draw attention to certain parts of your face, it’s important to highlight and illuminate with the correct tools. Add some dimension to your face by applying a cream highlight onto the top of your cheekbones before heading out. We promise it’ll make your entire face glow!

Curl your lashes

Draw the attention to your eyes by curling your lashes before applying mascara. This makes such a big difference, especially if your lashes are naturally quite straight.

6 Long-Lasting Foundations Every Woman Needs

Whether you’re at work from 9-5 or simply need a long-lasting foundation for a special event such as a wedding, it seems like these products are usually few and far between.

Long-lasting foundations can often feel a little too-drying, or even just emphasise rough patches on the skin such as acne or breakouts.

Treat your skin to these refreshingly long-lasting formulas which work on all skin types, and are available in a number of shades and finishes to suit your skin tone.

RELATED: The Best Makeup Tips For Flawless Foundation

Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation, $64

Pros: There are over 18 shades to choose from.

Cons: The price is a little steep for a foundation with no SPF.

A fairly new launch by Nars, but a great product nonetheless. The new foundation seems worlds away from the cult-favourite which is Sheer Glow, but instead, is made to last the distance.

You can set the foundation with powder for more of a matte look, but we would say that the finish is semi-matte, leaving the skin with a slight glow.

5 Long-Lasting Foundations Every Woman Needs

Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation SPF 20, $17.95

Pros: The formula is lightweight and doesn’t feel heavy on the skin, even after additional wear.

Cons: The colour range is quite limited.

Boasting more than 25 hours of heat and sweat-proof makeup is a big call for any foundation, but this product is great for keeping the skin matte, especially during the warmer months or in the humidity.

Buff the product into the skin with a stippling brush, then use a damp cosmetic sponge over your oily zones to leave the skin with a dewy finish. Overall a trustworthy product which comes in at a good price point for drugstore cosmetics.

5 Long-Lasting Foundations Every Woman Needs

Makeup Forever HD Foundation, $62

Pros: There are over 25 shades to choose from, which are both pink and yellow based.

Cons: You can essentially only purchase this product from Sephora.

Originally created specifically for actors on the big screen, this foundation has been dubbed as a cult-favourite by makeup artists around the world.

It applies very effortlessly on the skin, and doesn’t contain SPF, so you won’t get any white flashback from flash photography.

5 Long-Lasting Foundations Every Woman Needs

Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup, $50

Pros: The formula is non-transferrable, and truly will stay in place all day.

Cons: Not ideal for dry skin.

Another cult product has to be the Double Wear foundation which is more suited for girls with an oily complexion.

If your skin is slightly on the dry side, this foundation is definitely not for you. Double Wear says in place all day long (regardless of if you set it in place with a powder or not), and doesn’t feel like it’s weighing down your skin.

5 Long-Lasting Foundations Every Woman Needs

Bobbi Brown Skin Weightless Powder Foundation, $68

Pros: Wide selection of shades for all skin tones.

Cons: The packaging isn’t very hygienic.

Choose a powder foundation if you need the extra coverage, and your skin is slightly on the oiler side, or even combination. Powder foundation will stay in place all day long, and can be easily touched-up without creating additional creasing.

Bobbi Brown Skin Weightless Powder Foundation

Yves Saint Laurent Teint Resist Long Wear Foundation, $78

Pros: Lasts for up to 14 hours on all skin types.

Cons: There are only 6 shades to choose from in the entire collection.

A long-wear foundation which stays in place all day, and is ideal for those long humid summer days. Set it with a powder to ensure it doesn’t transfer, especially if you summer from already oily skin.

5 Long-Lasting Foundations Every Woman Needs

Tips

  • To ensure that your makeup stays on all day, make sure to properly cleanse and moisturise your face. If you suffer from dry patches around the t-zone, use a heavy duty moisturise for dehydrated skin, and wait for it to settle before apply any makeup.
  • If your face does get oily throughout the day, use blotting paper to remove any excess oil from these areas. Rather than applying another layer of powder, a blotting sheet removes the shine without adding to your makeup.

Must-Try Korean Makeup Trends

South Korean makeup trends have been making waves recently and are renowned for their cute and quirky approach to women’s makeup. If you’ve ever wanted to try these looks before, then our easy guide will show you how to look like you’ve stepped out of a K-pop music video!

RELATED: The Best Blush For Your Face Shape

Ombré lips

Gradient lips, otherwise known as ombré lips, are a subtle way to bring some colour to your entire face. The aim is to use 2 shades lighter than each other and carefully fill in those lines in your lips. Make sure to blend well with your finger or a cotton tip before attempting to use the next colour. What you should be left with is a look which is subtle and is perfect for those lazy makeup days.

5 Must-Try Korean Makeup Trends

Straight brows

Rather than elongating the natural shape and size of your brows, the makeup trend is usually reversed! In favour of shorter, more structured brow, concealer is placed over the tip and the rest of the brow is coloured with a thick pencil. Make sure to fill in any visible gaps with a brow pencil and set in place with a translucent gel.

5 Must-Try Korean Makeup Trends

Pink blush

Along with a porcelain base, most Korean women love to finish this look with a perfect pink blush. Choose an opaque shade, and build-up the look by starting small and focusing the product on the entire cheek. Keep blending until there are no lines of contour, or until you’ve reached your desired amount of blush!

5 Must-Try Korean Makeup Trends

Aegyo sal

One of the biggest beauty trends to come out of Korea definitely has to be aegyo sal. These are the little pockets of fat found under each eye, which are then heavily highlighted with shimmery or glitter powder. It helps to bring a visibly brighter, more youthful appearance to the face.

5 Must-Try Korean Makeup Trends

Dewy skin

There’s no denying that most eastern makeup trends prefer a dewy finish as opposed to something more matte. To achieve this look, use a light reflecting primer which will enhance your makeup (especially if you suffer from dry skin). No blotting papers or powders necessary!

Get The Look: Upside Down Cat Eye

Give a modern twist to the classic cat eye look by tweaking just one factor – turning it upside down!

This unique look is easy enough for both beginners and experienced makeup artists, and is perfect for almost any type of occasion you can think of. All you need is a black eyeliner (gel, cream, or felt-tip) to get started.

RELATED: How To Wear Coloured Makeup

What you need

  • Eyeliner (of course)
  • Mascara
  • Cotton tips
  • Micellar water (or makeup remover for smoothing out any lines)

Instructions

  1. Prep your eyes with a primer to keep the colour lasting for longer, and also if you suffer from really oily eyelids.
  2. Line the bottom water line with a thin, black kohl pencil. This will create the very basis of your look.
  3. Use an angled brush, then dip it into the tip of the mascara. Carefully draw a line which extends from the lower lash line and outwards into the outer corner.
  4. To create the cat eye itself, place a sticky note extending from the outer corner, then simply use a felt-tip liner to draw the end. Draw it on as carefully as you can, then fill it in with the same angled brush.
  5. Simply remove the sticky note and use a cotton tip dipped in makeup remover to tidy up the flick.
