How Can Cleansing Balms Help Your Skin?

January 14, 2015

Cleansing balms are one of the most misunderstood products in the skincare world, but also the most versatile.

Part moisturiser, part cleanser, part hydrating face mask, and even a soothing skincare oil, there’s a reason women don’t know what to do with this product! We decipher each part of the cleansing balm, and let you know how to use it.

Don’t let the thick consistency throw you off – a cleansing balm is the perfect product to use as a cleanser. Simply mix a few drops of water into the palm of your hand, and apply once a day onto dry skin. The formula is perfect for all skin types (but especially nourishing for dehydrated skin), and won’t feel too heavy afterwards.

Use as a moisturiser on dry patches of skin such as feet, knees, elbows, and hands before going to bed. The invigorating formulas will help send you to sleep, and also revitalises troublesome spots on both the face and body. Apply directly onto fresh skin for best results, and let it soak completely before following-up with other skincare or cosmetics.

Face mask

Most cleansing balms come with a handy muslin cloth so you always have the option of using them as a face mask. Unclog your pores and remove makeup by applying generously over the face and neck. Lie down, and relax for 10-15 minutes, then simply wipe-off with a muslin cloth soaked in lukewarm water.

Gently exfoliate your entire body with the use of a cleansing balm. Most formulas are free from parabens, silicones, and mineral oils, so they won’t interrupt your usual skincare routine. Use a warm muslin cloth to easily remove the excess product, and leave skin feeling silky smooth before heading to bed.

Lip balm

And lastly, use the cleansing balm as a multi-purpose lip cream to nourish dry, cracked skin. Most formulas contain skin-loving rosehip oil which is super-hydrating during the winter months, and will make your face glow.
