Five celebrities talk about what marriage means to them, what makes a good relationship and their own weddings.

Beyonce Knowles

Beyonce believes she has a happy marriage to Jay-Z because they try to keep it as private as possible. She said: “Jay and I have always been very discreet when it comes to our relationship. Even after we got married nothing changed about that. I think that saved us a lot of trouble.”

Patrick Dempsey

McDreamy admits it takes a lot of work to have a good marriage. The “Grey’s Anatomy” who has been married to wife Jill Fink for 10 years said: “I am romantic but I think it takes more than just flowers. Marriage is great and blissful, but it takes work and understanding. You have to make time to spend together and to work through your issues. The more we grown and learn, both as individuals and as a couple, the closer we get … through her I’ve learnt that you need to have a life outside this business, otherwise you’ll be left feeling profoundly empty. So marrying Jill was a turning point for me. I thought, ‘Whatever happens now, I have a loving wife and that’s what it’s all about.’”

Diane Kruger

The 33-year-old actress – who is dating former ‘Dawson’s Creek’ star Joshua
Jackson – was previously married to Guillaume Canet for five years and says
the end of their union taught her that getting wed isn’t necessarily
meaningful for a successful relationship. She said: “I don’t think I’ll marry again. Because I’ve realised commitment is important and no matter what paper you’re going to sign, if that commitment ceases to be there you’ll get out of the marriage anyway. You know, I might get married at 50 or 60, when it actually means something to say ‘for the rest of my life’.”

Nicole Scherzinger

The Pussy Cat Dolls singer reportedly devised a three-point plan to help rebuild her relationship with Lewis Hamilton including: no interruptions when they dine out meaning Lewis agreed to leave his BlackBerry at home and that they speak every day rather than just texting. It seems to have worked because Nicole, 31, joked with a shop assistant when she was asked if there was anything particular she was looking for, saying: “This year – my wedding dress.”

Nicole Richie

Nicole and her rocker man, Joel Madden, announced their engagement last month but admit Nicole is the one in charge of the plans. Talking about the wedding, Joel said: “It’s the same thing as our engagement, we’re kind of doing it at our own pace. We have no idea right now.” Nicole then quipped: “Like he has any say!” The couple also disagree what kind of wedding they want. Joel added: “According to her we’ll have a really big wedding. According to me, it will be really small.”
