Christmas Gift Guide: Our Favourite Charities

KMart Wishing Tree

While you’re shopping for presents pop into your local KMart and pick up a tag on their Wishing Trees. While you’re there pick up a gift for the age and gender on your tag and pop it under the tree – and brighten up Christmas for a child in need.

Doggie Rescue

If you buy a dog at Christmas please remember a dog is for life! Monika’s Doggie Rescue is a small organisation that looks after as many abandoned dogs as it can, never putting a dog down, and the volunteers are brilliant! My dog came from Monika’s and you can help by becoming a Life Saver and sponsoring a dog for life, or donating for as little as $5.

We love Oxfam! They have a fantastic range of gift ideas with all proceeds going to fund their great work. So you can still indulge this Christmas – create your own Christmas cards, decorate your tree and buy Fairtrade gifts – or donate directly to help communities around the world, such as the recent Pakistani flood victims.

World Vision

World Vision for the tremendous work they do around the world – helping communities educate, get healthy and create opportunities. Welcome one of these communities into your family by sponsoring a child, or help out in a tangible way by buying pencils for a school, a mosquito net to stop malaria or a fish farm to feed and provide income.

Salvation Army

Why waste money on crappy Christmas cards when you can buy beautiful cards that will make a difference to those in need? The Savlos have a beautiful range of cards that you can easily order online – so far over $400,000 has been raised from these cards alone!

Surf Life Saving

While many of us enjoy the beach this summer give a thought to the amazing people at Surf Life Saving, who risk their lives to save lives. Consider a donation which will go towards essential equipment such as first aid kits, spinal boards and defibrillators.
