TMZ broke the story over the weekend that famous DJ Adam Goldstein had died of a reported drug overdose in his New York City apartment.
The 36-year-old, otherwise known as DJ AM, was known for his work with Blink-182’s Travis Barker (whom he survived a plane crash with only a year ago) and handling the music at big-name celebrity hot-spots.
He last tweeted “New York, New York” — “New york, new york. Big city of dreams, but everything in new york aint always what it seems” — on August 25th.
DJ AM was engaged to Nicole Richie a few years back and she is said to be devastated at the news. He has also been linked to Mandy Moore and had reportedly just broken up with his girlfriend Hayley Wood days before his death.
A rep for the star said, “The circumstances surrounding his death are unclear. Out of respect for his family and loved ones, please respect their privacy at this time.”
TMZ has reported that drug paraphernalia was found in DJ AM’s apartment which he had not left for days. A friend showed up to check on him and that’s when police were alerted.
Adam had a bumpy life. He spoke openly about his addictions to drugs and food. He admitted his father’s verbal abuse made him turn to food, and he was obese by age 10. He started attending recovery meetings after a suicide attempt at 24, and underwent gastric bypass surgery at 30.
The coroner is currently doing an autopsy on the body and we’ll keep you updated of any more developments. Such sad news!
