The company begins the year with Gathering, reuniting the creative energy of two of Australia?s most extraordinary performing arts companies ? Bangarra Dance Theatre and The Australian Ballet. This exciting double bill features Rites, Stephen Page?s critically acclaimed work, set to Stravinsky?s The Rite of Spring, along with a brand new work, Amalgamate, also by Page with original music by David Page and Elena Kats-Chernin.

Twenty years after its premiere in Adelaide, Maina Gielgud?s much anticipated Giselle will once again prove a favourite with family audiences and fans of traditional ballet. This timeless tale of love and betrayal is one of the world?s most popular ballets and has been programmed as the ?heritage? ballet of 2006.

Bodytorque. Face the Music is the third instalment of The Australian Ballet?s choreographic development programme and combines the talents of Australia?s up and coming composers with those of the rising stars in choreography.

Revolutions is a tribute to the first of the Ballets Russes? star choreographers, Mikhail Fokine, and features three of his most celebrated works: Les Sylphides, Le Spectre de la rose and Sch?h?razade. Revolutions is the company?s first programming contribution to the four year project Ballets Russes in Australia: Our Cultural Revolution, a project that commemorates Diaghilev?s Les Ballets Russes (The Russian Ballet).

While still enjoying the success of the recent world premiere of Stanton Welch?s The Sleeping Beauty, we are delighted to announce that Brisbane audiences will have their first exposure to this lavish interpretation. Welch?s opulent retelling of this classic fairytale is coupled with Kristian Fredrikson?s magical and exotic sets and costumes.

One of the highlights in 2006 will be the major new commission Raymonda set to Glazunov?s dazzling score. Award-winning Resident Choreographer Stephen Baynes has lavishly re-told the 19th century story, abandoning the old tale set in the Crusades, and instead creating an homage to the style and glamour of screen-goddess-turned-princess Grace Kelly.

The Australian Ballet presents New Zealand?s premier dance company, Royal New Zealand Ballet, with three energetic and adventurous works from internationally renowned choreographers: Esquisses by Christopher Hampson (UK), Les Noces by Michael Parmenter (NZ) and a passionate new work by Javier De Frutos (Venezuela).

Don’t miss out on your complimentary champagne at each performance when you purchaseSheSaid 3 package from the Australian Ballet. Take advantage of this special today.
