Emmys red carpet

Get The Look: Rose Byrne’s Rosy Emmys Makeup

Rose Byrne is always one of our favourite celebrities on the red carpet, and that was no different at yesterday’s Emmys 2013, looking pretty-in-pink in Calvin Klein paired perfectly with rosy makeup (and as a side note, how sweet was boyfriend Bobby Cannavale thanking “the love of my life, Rose” during his acceptance speech for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Boardwalk Empire!).

Here’s how CHANEL celebrity makeup artist Kate Lee created the look.

Skin

Kate started by prepping Rose’s skin with CHANEL Hydra Beauty Essence Mist, followed quickly with CHANEL Hydra Beauty Gel Yeux. Next, she used a small amount of CHANEL Le Lift Creme Fine to give a beautiful, velvety, firm texture to her complexion.

Kate says Rose is blessed with beautiful, even-toned skin, so she only need a light dusting of CHANEL Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour SPF 15 No. 30 to diffuse the light and give a velvet matte finish. Kate’s tip: apply with a large brush then use a damp beauty blender sponge to melt it into the skin for perfect coverage.

Eyes

Kate started by defining the eye socket with the darkest shade in the CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Eclosion. She then blended the peach shade above the socket to melt the socket away. The lash line was defined by wetting the matte brown shadow and blending out.

She finished with a coat of CHANEL Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Noir, then added few extra Ardell lashes.

Cheeks

Kate used Le Blush Creme de Chanel in Presage to add an apricot hue to the apples of Rose’s cheeks.

Lips

Kate use CHANEL Rouge Coco Hydrating Creme Lip Colour in Byzantin, a deep rose.

Get The Look: Kerry Washington’s Pretty Emmys Makeup

Kerry Washington is one of our best dressed celebrities at the Emmys in her spectacular Marchesa princess gown, but her makeup was also a standout, with soft, smokey eyes and nude lips. Celebrity makeup artist Carola Gonzalez created this perfect makeup look and shares the exact products she used. “The inspiration came from the delicate dress,” Carola said. “Although I like a matte finish, especially for awards shows, I added a radiance to her skin with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light. It’s the perfect shade for Kerry.”

Skin

Prime the skin with Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer, and follow withHourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation in Warm Beige. “I’m really impressed with the airbrushed finish this foundation creates,” says Carola. “And I really don’t need to use powder anymore.” Conceal any imperfections with Clé de Peau Beauté Concealer in Honey.

Eyes

Apply the mauve shimmer shade from Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Exhibition to the inner corner of the eyes and the lids, and the eggplant shimmer shade to the outer edge of the eye and beneath the bottom lash line. Blend the two shades together. Apply Ardell Natural Lashes in 110, line the eyes with Hourglass Script Precision Liner in Jett, and finish off with three coats of Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara.

Define the brows with Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Dark Brunette.

Cheeks

Apply Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light on the cheekbones, forehead, nose and chin. Apply Lancôme Blush Subtil in Sparkling Rose to the apples of the cheeks and sweep towards the temples.

Lips

Prep lips with Hourglass No. 28 Lip Treatment Oil for superior hydration. Apply Hourglass Extreme Sheen Lip Gloss in Truth, a beige rose, for the finishing touch.

Emmy Awards Worst Dressed List

Despite many gorgeous colours and knockout gowns, this year’s Emmy Awards produced a number of absolute shockers, including one Aussie celeb who should know better! Who was your worst dressed celebrity?

Ashley Judd

There’s not one redeeming feature with this look. The dress is a shocker, the stiff bouffant updo is terrible…Ashley needs to sack her stylist, now.

Michelle Dockery

I don’t care how amazing the dress is: if the fabric creases, like it does here, it’s an instant no-no.

Hayden Panietteriere

Why do so many young stars dress way older than they are? This uninspired Grecian gown by Marchesa ages the 23-year-old.

Mayim Bialik

That’s right, it’s Blossom! So many fond memories of watching Mayim on Blossom (and Beaches) but sadly this drapey red dress looks more curtains than couture.

Lena Dunham

One word: why? You’re young and have Hollywood at your feet with HBO’s Girls, so why look so glum in this badly-fitting lace dress that looks like something you’d find at the back of a dusty vintage store?

Nicole Kidman

Nicole is a brilliant actress, and it almost feels unpatriotic to call her out on her bad fashion choices. But this dress is as stiff as her face (step away from the needles, Nic!) – we wish she chose something softer and more comfortable.

Anna Chlumsky

We’ll always love Anna Chlumsky from My Girl, but we love her just a little less after choosing this ill-fitting black lace gown with satin sash and silver shoes.

Phoebe Price

There’s always one ridiculous dress on the Emmy Awards red carpet, and this year actress Phoebe Price takes the prize. The gown, the shoes…it’s straight out of a hillbilly prom.
