Escape the real world to Byron at Byron.

Want a uniquely Australian experience? Then The Byron at Byron is the place for you! Set amongst 45 acres of rainforest about 10 minutes out of the town of Byron Bay is one of the most tranquil resorts I have ever been to. Seriously 5 Star too!

You can do as little or as much as you want at this resort. With facilities including a 25m infinity pool (heated in winter), synthetic grass tennis court, fully equipped gymnasium, luxurious Spa and Wellness Centre, 10 min stroll to Byron Bay Golf Course (special rates have been negotiated for Resort guests). Plus on thursdays you can accompany the talented chefs at The Restaurant and Bar to the local farmer’s market. Don’t forget alfresco dining, poolside dining, stunning rainforest with boardwalks plus free shuttle into Byron Bay (three daily), and even complimentary yoga session 8am daily.

The rooms are not your average hotel room style accommodation, in fact nothing about The Byron at Byron is average or what you would find anywhere else in Australia. Think of having your own apartment style town house set back from Tallow Beach. This beach is perfect for long, romantic walks on, as it is 15 kms of perfectly white sandy beach. In your enormous apartment you have a bedroom, huge bathroom, wet room/shower area, lounge/dining area, and fully fitted kitchen, not that I would consider using it when the 5 star open air restaurant is but a mere walk down the wooden boardwalk away from me.

My suite was situated right in amongst the rainforest, with a private enclosed balcony looking out into the forest for quiet reading and relaxing. It seems the designers of the Byron at Byron have thought of everything right down to the fine, insect-proof mesh walls around the balcony, so if you wanted to “be with nature” but in total comfort, you could sit out there in total privacy with your loved one and a glass of something yummy and listen to the orchestra of bugs chatting away in the rainforest all night long. And if you leave your bedroom windows open (still all with fly screens) you can hear the waves crashing on the sand at Tallow Beach to lull you off to sleep.

The clean freaks amongst us will also be pleased to hear that the suites were immaculate with gorgeous soft furnishings, and personally controlled air-conditioning. No stuffy hotel room air con here! Plus plenty of magazines on the coffee table to entertain you. They even thought to add the friendly touch of a warm, throw rug on the couch for cuddling in front of the massive tv or to keep you warm on those cooler nights on the balcony.

TV addicts beware most Foxtel channels are available plus a DVD player and in-house movies are all there too! Perfect if the weather turns bad and you just want to stay inside and relax.

If you really must stay connected to the real world whilst you are staying at The Byron at Byron, all of the suites include free wireless. But my recommendation would be to leave your laptop at home so you are not tempted at all and just come and enjoy the peace and serenity as it is so rare to find these days in our mad, mad world.

The staff are so friendly and helpful it is obviously a lovely place to live and work. You know that feeling on holidays when nothing you ask for is a problem? Well this is that kind of place. I even commented to my girl pals I was enjoying the escape with at breakfast, that I was surprised there we no mango’s on the breakfast smorgasbord and a staff member overheard my comment and went and asked the chef to cut one up for me and bought it to our table! How brilliant is that for service? I was blown away by how the staff actually look to see what they can do to help you have the best time possible without being intrusive. The food was amazing too and the smorgasbord brekkie is so extensive it could keep you going all day long.

The 25 metre infinity pool is perfectly placed for long sessions of sun bathing with a good book. (I know that is not the done thing these days but still one of my own personal favourite things to do in the world!) There is a small kids pool but to be honest it is such a tranquil, romantic place I think you would be mad to bring your kids along! There still are some things that Mummy and Daddy should get to do by themselves. This is one of them – cocktails by the pool in the late afternoon sun are a must when you stay at The Byron at Byron.

The Day Spa is also world class and well worth a visit. Just make sure you arrive early for your appointment and bring your swimmers as the outdoor spa is worth making time for a little soak after your treatment.

The Byron at Bryon needs to be experienced to be believed, take someone you enjoy spending time with, a couple of good books and your walking shoes as this place just makes you feel like embracing nature even if you are not a nature lover at heart. There are no tree-hugging hippies but the designers of The Byron at Byron have done a brilliant job at building something that actually compliments the surrounding rain forest and if you are seeking somewhere quiet, relaxing and stylish then you will love this place as much as I did.
