Gwyneth Paltrow: People Are So Mean To Me
We love Gwyneth, really we do. She’s made some great movies (Se7en, Sliding Doors, The Talented Mr. Ripley), has an adorable family, gorgeous hair and an enviable wardrobe. But she does have a tendency to whinge.
Her latest complaint is all about how mean people have been to her because of choice to run a lifestyle newsletter called Goop. If you haven’t heard of Goop it’s very much ‘don’t you wish your lifestyle was hot like mine?’ In a chitty chatty tone she recommends expensive, impossible-to-find products alongside cheaper items without much sincerity. She also sends out thoughts on parenting, cooking, travelling – it’s fascinating reading but so far removed from the average person.
“Any time you do anything with any degree of sincerity, people make fun of you,” she told Harper’s Bazaar UK. “That’s totally fine. I don’t care. I don’t read any of it.”
Just when you start to feel sorry for her, she gives it a bit of trademark attitude. “There were a couple of times when I thought, ‘I’m just gonna stop doing it. People are so mean to me. I don’t want to do it.’ But then I was like, ‘Who cares what some lame person out there says?’ I was in Italy once, and this old man came up to me and said, ‘I had the best time in Nashville because of Goop.’ And that is so worth it to me.”
Really? Did an old man in Italy really come up to you after reading Goop?
Gwyneth has famously bagged the US, preferring the UK and declaring she would never live in her home country again, earning her a number of upset fans.
“In England, people are cool,” she says. “They’re really laid back and calm. Beyonce did the school run with me once, and everyone was fine. They also have really good anti-paparazzi rules. If you’re driving in a car and they make you feel freaked out, that’s against the law.”
Suck it up, Gwynie!
