How To Do The Perfect Smokey Eye/Nude Lip

It’s the most requested look from makeup artists so we’ve tracked down the best products and tips to achieving this sexy, smouldering look.

People often think you need black eyeliners and shadows for a smokey eye, but this can look too harsh on most people- unless you’re a fan of the Twilight look! Look for hues like deep eggplant (perfect for green eyes) or dark bronze (a must for blue or brown eyes).

Don’t start with liner and finish with shadow for smokey eyes: first, build up shadow along the lashline and feather off along the lid. Then apply eyeliner in a similar shade close to the upper lashes and along the waterline and smudge into the shadow.

Celebrity makeup artist Beau Nelson worked with Emma Roberts and Anna Paquin this week, using Nars to give their eyes show-stopping sophistication.

For Anna Paquin’s chocolate-hued eyes, he used Nars Cordura Duo Eyeshadow (see above) and Black Moon Eyeliner Pencil. The True Blood star attended the NYC launch event for Google’s

At the launch of Lanvin for H&M, Emma Roberts boasted deep-set, defined eyes with Nars Rajasthan Duo Eyeshadow and Cyprus Eyeshadow. He highlighted the actress’ inner corners with new-for-spring Hollywoodland Soft Touch Shadow Pencil (for now, try Goddess Soft Touch Shadow Pencil for a similar affect).

The other issue with black eyeshadows is they don’t appear as true black on the skin, but with a grey or green hue. Jay Vernon of Sephora NY recommends using an eye primer, like Pop Beauty Eye Magnet Primer all over the lid and up to the brow to help shadows stay fresh and uncreased for hours (you want bedroom eyes, not panda eyes) – it also helps the colour look like it does in the pot.

Finding the perfect nude lip colour is on par with the perfect red lip – it’s not easy! There are a million shades of nude in matte, shimmer or high gloss finishes and it also comes down to your skin tone. Be wary of anything too frosty as it can thin the lips

I’ve raved about Arbonne’s lip liner in Ginger before as it’s the perfect your-lips-but-better shade. Then slick over with universally-suited Korres Cherry Full Colour Gloss in Light Pink, the perfect sheer milky pink which moisturises with cherry oil.
