The average weight gain in pregnancy is around 14kg and with the warmer weather now very much upon us the question on a lot of mums minds is “how can I lose the baby weight?” Sydney mother Rhian Allen started an award-winning website to help mums get fit and healthy, and she shares 10 tips to help new mums become yummy mummies.

1. Get focused

Focus on living a healthy lifestyle and weight loss will be by-product of your healthy lifestyle.

2. Be nourished

Increase the number of nutrients you get through your food so your cells are fully nourished and work at maximum capacity.

3. More protein

Increase the amount of protein in your diet which helps to increase metabolism and help you feel fuller for longer.

4. Add fibre

Increase fibre in your diet to aid digestion and help you feel fuller for longer.

5. Healthy snacks

Pre-prepare healthy snacks to keep you going in between meals – great snacks include fruit with low fat yoghurt, carrots with low fat cottage cheese and dried fruit with nuts.

6. Exercise

Incorporate incidental exercise into your life so that it becomes part of your life.

7. Drink more water

Drink at least 1.5 litres of water a day to keep hydrated and help with detoxification.

8. Build a support network

Encourage your family and friends to be healthy with you so you have a great support network around you.

9. Try this metabolism booster

Drink green tea which can help speed up the metabolism.

10. Bye bye, junk food

Throw out all the junk and processed foods from your kitchen so in moments of weakness you are not tempted to binge on unhealthy foods.
