How To Wear Scarves

Julia Blanter, SheSaid Editor

Whether it’s a chunky knitted scarf for winter or a colourful silk scarf in summer, I’m a huge fan of scarves. Mainly because they can transform an outfit – and your mood – for a fraction of the price of any other item in your wardrobe. A few new scarves will give you limitless styling options and perk up those days when you think “I’ve got nothing to wear!”. Here are my three favourite looks (that the celebs love too…) that anyone can achieve…

Look 1: Head Scarf

I’d never call Jessica Simpson a style icon but look how chic she is in that navy and beige scarf. Such a hot look for summer, it’s also fabulous when you’re having a bad hair day! For a long rectangular scarf, simply fold in half lengthways, then half again to your desired width. Tie firmly over your head with a knot at the nape of your neck.

Look 2: Belt

Try this for an instant wardrobe reviver: grab a scarf and string through your belt loops – voila! Brightens up a boring jeans and tshirt combo but also looks fabulous with dressy pants and a sleek singlet or blouse for night.

Look 3: Long And Loose

Keep it simple. A thin scarf looks best hanging long and loose, elongating the body. No need for any other jewellery either, it will make you feel like you’ve made an effort when you’ve done nothing more than throw a scarf on before walking out the door!
