A beaming Kylie Minogue yesterday donned a gown and tam as she accepted an honorary Doctor of Health Science award for her work on breast cancer awareness.
The 43-year-old singer was diagnosed with the disease six years ago and has been a role model for young people in early detection. She was given the all clear in 2006 and was overwhelmed at accepting the award from Anglia Ruskin University in Essex, one hour outside of London.
“I never went to university so my dad will be very proud when he sees the pictures,” Minogue told the 220 graduates during her speech.
“When you are diagnosed yourself it becomes a lot more real and you appreciate at first hand the hard work that goes on to support patients through it.”
The ceremony was also a chance for Minogue to debut her newly-dyed brown hair after years as a blonde. What do you think of the new look?
Congratulations to Kylie Minogue!
