Could champagne be good for you?
We love research that says it is okay to drink champagne every day! Reports from the University of Reading in the UK suggest that researchers have found that two glasses of bubbly per day may be good for your heart and circulation. Oh hallelujah sisters!
Apparently they also found that drinking champagne everyday (in moderation, of course) improves the way blood vessels function. Now we know we didn’t really need any excuse at this time of the year to drink more champoo did we? But now we have proof it is for medicinal purposes too!
“Our research has shown that drinking around two glasses of champagne can have beneficial effects on the way blood vessels function, in a similar way to that observed with red wine. We always encourage a responsible approach to alcohol consumption, but the fact that drinking Champagne has the potential to reduce the risks of suffering from cardiovascular diseases such as heart disease and stroke, is very exciting news,” said Dr Jeremy Spencer, from the Department of Food and Nutritional Sciences. The bubbly beverage increases the availability of nitric oxide (a molecule which controls blood pressure).
On a large scale, this could mean reduced risks of heart attack and stroke, although they specify that further research needs to be carried out on long-term effects. Now who says everything that tastes good is bad for you? Sorry can’t write anymore as off to have my first glass of bubbles for the day! Cheers!
