What do you mean, Justin?
There are two ways to end a relationship. Either you end your relationship with dagger looks, fights for days and cut off all contact while you listen to killer breakup songs, or you do what Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez did.
Just months after Gomez revealed she will always, “support him and love him” in an interview for September’s Elle, Bieber broke his silence on the split, saying he will always love his previous partner. In an interview with Access Hollywood, the 21 year-old singer explained, “She is someone I love dearly. I am never going to stop loving her. I am never going to stop checking in on her.”
Awww, we love it!
Since the 2014 split there have been multiple whispers about the two, particularly since they are both set to release new albums in the coming days, with Gomez recently attracting controversy, telling media she was undergoing chemo last year when the paparazzi speculated she was going through rehab to get over Bieber.
Both of the young star’s lyric choices and video clips have been picked apart by media and fans hoping to get some dirt in regards to the relationship’s status.
Graffiti in Beiber’s What Do You Mean? video clip, which saw the words “Hope. Love. Selena.” painted in the background, caused an instant buzz among fans. Alternatively within song Sorry, Beiber’s lyrics describe what could have been the downfall to the relationship:
“You know…I don’t do too well with apologies… Cause I just need one more shot at forgiveness. Is it too late now to say sorry? …I know that I let you down, is it too late to say sorry now?”
Read into it what you will, but it looks like Justin has put things straight once and for all, telling Access Hollywood he is still “not over it”. When asked about moving on from his former girlfriend the singer spoke about the difficultly he faced when it was time to let go.
“It was really tough, I don’t know if I’m over it yet. I think that I am definitely in another place and we’ve gone our separate ways. I love her and want her to be awesome but there are things that remind me of her.”
The pair have been conscious not to backstab or spread gossip since the split and seem to be amicable.
“I respect him. And I think he respects me, in a healthy manner,” said Gomez when talking about their relationship as it stands now.
Bieber backed up his ex’s comments when he described his hope to continue the mutual respect they have for one another.
“I don’t think if you end a relationship, you should end that, unless it was super toxic and you guys were hurting each other physically or mentally. We always respected each other and we still respect each other.”
So will there be a time when we see Jelena back together again? We can only hope, since Bieber hesitated when asked if there could be a future together.
“I don’t know what happens or what is going to happen in the future. I think we both gotta do some soul searching ourselves and figure out ourselves before we can figure out each other.”
However, when asked if he would ever consider rekindling the relationship the singer responded, “How many people go through life and end up meeting someone and it feels so right but it’s just the wrong time. I think so many people can relate to that.”
If Justin says he’ll never get over Selena, then we secretly hope he never will. We don’t want to get too excited after Bieber’s spiel, but we’re definitely hoping to see the couple reunited. After all, who doesn’t enjoy a good happy ending to a love story?
