How To Layer Your Skincare
With so many cleansers, serums, moisturisers, and face masks currently available, it’s often difficult to figure out how to incorporate all of the above into your daily skincare routine.
There is actually a crazy method of using all of these essential products on your skin without feeling too overwhelmed. Use the following tips the next time you apply your morning and nightly skincare products.
After cleansing your skin and washing the solution off carefully with tepid water, it’s time to apply your daily serum. Serums typically go first because they contain concentrated ingredients, and act like a primer for the other products. Allow the serum to settle completely into the skin for 5-10 minutes – your skin should feel soft and matte.
If you’re applying serum during the night, you can also use a retinol in this step as well. They should always be applied first, since this can really maximise the way they interact with clean, dry skin.
Now is the best time to use any acne-fighting spot treatments on your skin. Topical prescriptions, and acne gels should be applied with a light hand on the skin. Let the product soak into the problem area before rushing to the next step of your skincare regime. While you wait, you can also apply eye cream around the eyes and over the crows-feet (if you have any). Dab the product in gently with your ring finger, and avoid dragging skin back and forth.
The moisturiser is important because it helps to really set all of the previous products. Because it’s so thick, it helps to settle everything else, and makes the skin feel soft and luminous for makeup or other cosmetics during the day.
If you’re heading out, now you can apply a sunscreen all over your face and neck. Use a product with SPF 15 and higher to protect your skin from any possible sun damage.
