You’ve probably heard about the many individuals who have quit their day jobs and create content for YouTube as their top priority. Beauty, fashion and daily vlogs are just some of the ways people like Lauren Curtis, Shannon Harris and family the Saccone-Joly’s have made their mark on the internet. However, is it possible to carve a career from YouTube?

Know your audience

This would be the same piece of advice to give anyone if they’re interested in starting a blog. Focus on building an audience by creating content that will pull them in time and time again. Stay true to your personal beliefs and don’t accept gifts in exchange for exposure if you don’t really feel passionate about it. Otherwise your audience will see straight through this.

New content

The secret to a successful vlog channel or even blog is by creating your own content. Sure you could go with the flow and create videos which hundreds of other people have seen before, but starting something new and fresh is a sure way to keep the subscribers rolling in.

Don’t quit your day job

Beauty Vlogger Lauren Curtis was working as a makeup artist at Bobbi Brown before her channel blew up, and then made YouTube her full time career. Work on other projects on the side, and allocate time and money to creating content that will slowly but surely bring in a steady audience.

YouTube partnership

If you’ve ever googled ‘How to make money from YouTube’ one of the top hits is always the YouTube Partnership Program. If you reach a certain number of subscribers or collective views, the channel goes into a partnership with YouTube and you can make some money through advertisements on videos. This only applies to videos which don’t use copyrighted content or music from artists which is royalty-free.

Watch, like and share videos

It’s important to be proactive and search what else is available online. You can’t really expect just to gain one thousand followers overnight just by sitting back and focusing on your own videos. Engage with other users online by liking their videos, sharing and even participating in collaborations which are in the interest of your channel.

Those are just a few tips on how to get started. The best way to come up with new videos is by working on ideas which you yourself would like to watch online. Then create fun and interactive ways in which to watch these ideas come alive.
