CAREgifts represent parts of CARE Australia’s aid programs that help women, girls and their communities to overcome poverty. Donations from the sale of each CAREgift provide support to the sector the gift is associated with – health, education, livelihoods or leadership.
CAREgifts are the perfect gift for family, friends and colleagues for Christmas, birthdays and special occasions like Father’s Day and Mother’s Day. They range in price from $13 for a chicken to $2,500 for a village water system.
CAREgifts can work to improve the lives of women and girls in a number of ways:
By helping send a girl to school. Girls are less likely to go to school than their brothers. However, an educated woman is more likely to have healthy babies and send them to school, breaking the cycle of poverty.
By providing access to savings and credit so that women can start a small business and improve the lives of their families. In most parts of the world, men find it easier to get credit than women.
By providing clean water close to home so women and girls don’t have to spend hours every day walking to collect water and can instead go to school or earn an income.
By providing chickens and goats, which can provide families with nutritious eggs and milk to eat, drink and sell.
