Makeup Tips for Brown Eyes

Of all the eye colours, brown eyes are the easiest to ‘dress up’ with a wide variety of makeup looks. Luckily for you, most shades of eye makeup compliment brown eyes, so you have a lot of options – from daytime subtle nudes to experimenting with crazy colours.

Follow our simple makeup tips and favourite products for brown-eyed babes.

Bronze and olive
While many colours look extraordinary on brown eyes, bronze and olive hues are the most flattering. Natalie Portman almost always wears bronze and chocolate eyeshadows, and her brown eyes are absolutely mesmerising.

Try lining the eyes with a chocolate brown eyeliner, and sweet a little bronze shadow over the liner and into the crease. Blend the same bronze shadow on the lower lash line. The same goes for olive and khaki tones, especially flattering if you pop a little pink or peach blush on the apples of your cheeks and finish with a natural glossy lip colour.
Our favourite products: MAC Eye Shadow in Tempting, the prettiest shimmery golden-brown shadow that’s universally flattering.

Play up your lashes
Play up those beautiful lashes. Keep other eye makeup to a minimum and focus on giving your lashes that ‘wow’ factor. Invest in a quality eyelash curler and follow up with a mascara that thickens and lengthens.
Our favourite products: The Shu Uemura eyelash curler is a cult favourite of makeup artists for the va-va-voom curl it bestows on your lashes. It’s worth every penny over the cheaper brands.

Equally beloved is Diorshow Mascara for the way it dramatically plumps lashes.

The perfect 60-second eye makeup
Want to save time getting ready and still have show-stopping eyes? This simple routine will take you from day to night and takes no time at all.

First, brush a neutral colour all over the lid. Look for an eyeshadow with hints of gold that will play up any flecks of gold in your eyes.

Next, choose a darker colour for the crease. Try a dark grey shade and add a little more for an evening smoky eye.

Complete the look with a dab of highlighter under the brow bone and the inner eye. Finish with mascara and you’re set!
Our favourite products: All of the Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Eyeshadow range would work, but we especially love Candelight, a luminous golden taupe.
