How To Do Your Own Wedding Makeup

February 26, 2014

Your wedding is going to be a day that you remember for the rest of your life. If you’ve been tossing up between doing your own wedding makeup or hiring a makeup artist, trust us – you can DIY your bridal beauty!

Not only will it save you money, but no one knows your face better than you. If you love the idea of classic, natural bridal makeup, just follow our makeup tips and product recommendations to help you do your wedding makeup yourself.

Remember, the idea behind a natural bridal makeup look is “less is more. Think dewy skin, softly defined eyes and rosy lips.

After you have thoroughly washed your face and applied a primer, use a foundation brush to apply tinted moisturiser, erasing any dark circles or blemishes with concealer.

We love: Chanel Long Lasting Corrective Concealer, small enough to carry around in your bridal makeup kit, yet it covers blemishes and other dark spots beautifully.

Use a large fluffy brush to sweep bronzer over your cheekbones, temples and hairline for a healthy, natural glow. Finish with a pop of natural rose cream blush, which lasts longer than powder blush, on the apples of the cheeks.
We love: Bobbi Brown Bronze Shimmer Brick, the perfect compact of different bronze shades with just enough micro-shimmer to give you skin a pretty radiance.

Go easy on the eye makeup. In between the tears and tearing up the dance floor, your eyes are going to get quite the workout on your wedding day, and you don’t want raccoon eyes by the time you get to the photo booth.

Brush a soft taupe over the lid, and line the outer edge of the upper and lower lash line in a natural eye liner colour like chocolate or olive. Smudge the liner into the shadow so there are no visible lines. Press a slightly darker shadow into the crease: think sandy gold, or a shimmery mocha. Top with two coats of waterproof mascara on the upper lash line only.
We love: YSL Volume Efft Faux Cils Mascara gives you va-va-voom lashes that look amazing in photos.

For your lips, apply a your-lips-but-better lip colour that accentuates your lips, rather than overwhelms it with colour.
We love: MAC Creme d’Nude or Hue Lipsticks, universally-flattering nude lipsticks with just enough sheen to make your lips look full and kissable.
