Mineral Makeup Round-up
If you want flawless-looking skin, mineral makeup is your new best friend. SheSaid tested and reviewed dozens of mineral makeup brands to find the best liquid and powder foundations – plus tips on how to apply for an airbrushed finish.
SheSaid Editor favourite: Youngblood Loose Mineral Foundation
SheSaid Editor Julia raves about Youngblood mineral makeup. The Liquid foundation with sea minerals is perfect is you prefer liquid, but it’s the Loose Mineral Foundation that is a must for powder lovers. Use the tiniest amount and sweep over the face with a large kabuki brush, or use a concealer brush to dot over blemishes. The powder is so fine it just blends right into the skin.
Best for oily skin: nc Velvet Finish Mineral Foundation Powder SPF 12
Nutrimetics have a great mineral compact with mirror so you can touch up on-the-go. The pressed powder absorbs excess oil so you won’t have anymore oily break-outs (perfect for summer).
Best for dry skin: Laura Mercier Mineral Powder SPF 15
Not only does this luxury mineral powder contain pure pearl powders to make your skin glow, the finely-milled powder is also packed with anti-ageing properties and 15 active amino acids to promote healthy skin cell renewal. Did we mention there’s SPF 15? On the pricey side, but definitely the workhorse of your makeup bag.
Best for sensitive skin: Innoxa Mineral Powder Foundation
This gentle mineral powder does not contain any fragrance, preservatives, talc or parabens so it’s ideal for sensitive skin. The built-in brush makes it great to pop in your purse – just wash the brush weekly with a gentle cleanser and air dry. For more coverage, simply tap a few shakes into the palm of your hand and mix with a dot of moisturiser or primer – instant liquid mineral foundation.
Best cheap and cheerful: Australis Mineral Inject Foundation
At $17.95 we didn’t expect too much from this liquid foundation but after a few days of 12-hour wear we were seriously impressed. We especially love that it contains Kakadu Plum, the world’s richest natural source of vitamin C, as well as a stack of other hydrating ingredients. Very natural, fresh-looking finish.
Best for all day wear: Napoleon Perdis Advanced Mineral Makeup SPF 15
This lovely, light-weight liquid foundation lasts all day, even through a wedding with dancing into the night. The semi-matte finish provides the right coverage to mask blemishes while still looking natural and glowy.
