Miss Australia Comes Third In Miss Universe Contest

Jesinta Campbell has come third in the Miss Universe contest, held overnight in Las Vegas. Miss Mexico took the crown, with Miss Jamaica coming in second.

The 19-year-old Queenslander was named Miss Congeniality but ultimately the Miss Universe title went to Jimena Navarrete, 22.

We recently took a look at
Jesinta’s Miss Universe outfit which included Ugg boot heels, shearling shrug, one-piece swimsuit featuring an Aboriginal design and flamenco-inspired skirt, which was mostly flamed for its kitschy, Australiana look. Unsurprisingly she didn’t win for Best National Costume, that honour went to Miss Thailand, Fonthip Watcharatrakul.

Jesinta follows in the footsteps of Jennifer Hawkins, who won the contest in 2004 and has gone on to a hugely successful modelling career, most notably as the face of Myer.

What do you think of the Miss Universe contest? A bit of fun, an amazing opportunity for women around the world or sexism at its worst?
