Miss Australia To Wear Uggs At Miss Universe Pageant
Jesinta Campbell has come under attack for choosing a tacky ‘Australiana’-themed outfit to wear at the Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas later this month.
The outfit, complete with high heeled Ugg boots, lamb’s wool shurg, one-piece swimsuit hand-painted by an Aboriginal artist and flamenco inspired skirt, is being called “a national joke.”
Jesinta says she thinks the costume is “incredible” and has defended its Sydney designer, Natasha Dwyer.
“Part of our Australian identity is our indigenous heritage and it was so important that it was included in the national costume,” she said.
“(The) little sheepskin shrug…is very Australian – very Outback.”
And now PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) have got involved, asking Jesinta not to wear the Uggs and shrug because the wool is sourced from mulesed sheep, which they do not agree with.
What do you think about this outfit? Is this celebrating the Australian larrakin at its best, or beyond a national joke?
