Based on the true story of Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy who take in a homeless teenage African-American, Michael “Big Mike” Oher. Michael is a poor, undereducated 344-pound African-American teenager in Memphis, whose father was murdered and whose mother was a crack addict, is shuffled through the public school system. Michael has had little formal education and few skills to help him learn.
Leigh Anne soon takes charge however, as is her nature, ensuring that the young man has every opportunity to succeed. When he expresses an interest in football, she goes all out to help him, including giving the coach a few ideas on how best to use Michael’s skills.
They not only provide him with a loving home, but hire a tutor to help him improve his grades to the point where he would qualify for an NCAA Division I athletic scholarship. Michael Oher was the first-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in the 2009 NFL draft.
This is one of the best movies of the year! It is so easy to see why Sandra Bullock won an Oscar for her acting in this movie. Brilliant story with fantastic acting especially from Jae Head as younger brother SJ, and Kathy Bates is fabulous as Miss Sue, a tutor hired to help Michael with his grades. If you love a good movie with a brilliant cast and a heart wrenching story then you will be glued to your seat for the duration of this movie. Great date movie, with girlfriends or with your man along if he likes stories with heart.
