My Favourite Beauty Products From NY Makeup Show
I went a bit mad buying up big at the NY Makeup Show this week, and these are my must-have products…and I’ve made sure you can easily buy them too!
Embryolisse Exfoliating Care Cream
I told you earlier this week how I was one of the last at the NY Makeup Show to get my hands on Embryolisse’s best-selling Lait Creme Concentre, which I’m loving, but my other favourite product from this cult French skincare brand is their exfoliator. The micro-balls are so gentle you can even use it on dry skin for a more invigorating scrub, but even used in the shower my skin feels deeply purified and radiant, like I’ve just had a facial.
Available at Scottys Makeup, $37.
Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner
Make Up For Ever was mobbed at the NY Makeup Show – the lines were an hour-long just to purchase their products – and yes, I too lined up for that long and I’m glad I did because I love their Aqua Eyes eyeliner. To say these are waterproof is an understatement, they just don’t budge, but still glide on. If you have green eyes like me, look out for shade 4L, because it’s the perfect rich plum that makes your eyes sparkle (some purples are too red and make you look like you’ve been crying).
Available at Mecca Cosmetica, $32.95.
Smashbox Eye Beam Double-Ended Brightener
One of my favourite sessions at the NY Makeup Show was Smashbox’s makeup artist Lori Taylor demonstrating how to naturally illuminate your skin. While she used gorgeous bronzers and lip glosses, the one product that stood out is this double-ended eye brightener. It’s a white-ish pencil that makes eyes pop: use the shimmery side on the inside corners of the eye and beneath the brow arch, then flip over and use the matte side on the waterline to make you look super bright eyed. You won’t know how you lived without it.
Available at Kit Cosmetics, $32.95.
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar
I admit this was a bit of an impulse purchase, because I’d never seen anything like it. But it’s cheap so I thought I’d try one. Lip Tars are a lipgloss with ultra saturated pigment, so it’s more a lipstick – or just think of it as paint! You only need to use the tiniest amount, the size of a pinhead is enough, and they’re meant to look amazing on HD photography and video. I chose the shade Conquest, which is like a concealer for your lips, giving me the perfect nude lip to match with smoky eyes.
Available at Make Up And Glow, $16.
Stila Sparkle Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner
I was a bit dubious when Stila’s gorgeous pro artistry director Domenico Briguglio told me this was the world’s first waterproof sparkle liquid eyeliner, but it’s true! It glides on like a dream (even if you have shaky hands) and stays put. What I loved is it’s more of a shimmer than those cheap chunky glitter liners that remind you of your teenage years! This is a fun product for serious nighttime glam.
Available at Mecca Cosmetica, $48.
Kevyn Aucoin The Pure Powder Glow in Dolline
I’m a sucker for blushes and was immediately drawn to this perfect shade of matte apricot. This is one of those universally flattering shades and because it’s so pigmented, it will last you forever. Just a light touch gives you the prettiest glow, blending into the skin and creating cheekbones. Great staying power, even for those with oily skin.
Available at Amazon, $37.
