Do You Need To Revamp Your Skincare This Summer?

Are you stuck in a skincare rut? If you’re a fan of natural skincare, the Ayurda Ayurvedic Skin Care range is definitely worth a try. I’m a hard taskmaster when it comes to my skin – I’m very choosy about my skincare regime given I have very fine, pale “English” type sensitive skin prone to redness and the odd blemish.

I favour a big-brand beauty range, but had just run out of my favourite, expensive moisturiser when I was kindly offered the chance to try Ayurda. It was perfect timing and I thought: “Live a little, Carrington – try something new.” And I’m really glad I did – I’m loving Ayurda’s pure skincare products which are formulated with all-natural and organic ingredients to create “nutrition for the skin”.

Ayurda is a Sanskrit name which translates to “bestower of longevity” – this resonates perfectly with the brand’s holistic approach to beauty. Incorporating the wisdom of the ayurvedic philosophy – an ancient system of life (ayur) knowledge (veda) arising in India thousands of years ago – Ayurda recognises that everyone is unique; what works for one person may not necessarily work for another.

So, the first step is take a skin quiz here: http://au.ayurda.com/au/know-your-skin.htm to see what type of skin you have and how the Ayurveda principles can help fix any pesky problems. Ayurda links its beauty to well-being. Its customised approach ensures your skin care has a balancing effect on your face and skin.

I’m a Pitta skin type, governed by a fire and water element. Pitta is said to control digestion, metabolism and transformation. Those with a predominance of the Pitta dosha have a fiery nature that manifests in both body and mind. In perfect health or in balance, I will have lustrous complexion with soft, fair skin, perfect digestion, abundant energy, and a strong appetite. When out of balance, my skin may be oily or become prone to skin rashes, eczema, acne, rosacea, skin sensitivity and redness, or I may develop burning sensations, peptic ulcers, excessive body heat, heartburn and/or indigestion. Guilty as charged! This is unbelievably accurate for a five-minute quiz.

But back to the skincare, I’m trialling the 21-day Pitta Balance program, $199 (pictured above). This includes four x 30ml bottles, including a customised cleanser, toner, moisturizer and night cream.

“Our Balance skincare programme will leave your skin feeling refined and repaired while enhancing your natural beauty from within,” says the blurb.

I have a Cucumber and Basil Cleanser to gently remove impurities while cooling the skin; Blackberry Astringent Lotion to soothe inflammation and help absorption; Almond and Saffron Moisturiser to soften skin; and Magic Touch, a skin beautifying formula which can be used as a spot cream or night treatment to calm and clear skin blemishes.

I’m also fortunate enough to have a sample-size Sparkle Eye Cream, which is a moisturiser for skin around the eyes, with cooling rose and red sandalwood to add sparkle, while turmeric and sariva are said to brighten the skin. In addition, I have a sample size Gel Scrub which gently exfoliates dead skin cells.

I like all the products a lot; it’s almost a week since I’ve started using them and my skin feels soft and dewy, with no breakouts. My favourites are the Sparkle Eye Cream and the Almond and Saffron Moisturiser (pictured below). The latter is loaded with nature’s best skin food – almonds – and the enriched moisturiser is said to soften and rejuvenate the skin by increasing blood circulation to the capillaries.

So, what’s best about Ayurda? Each and every blend is said to be handcrafted in small batches to maintain integrity and freshness. All essential oils and raw materials are the highest grade possible. There’s no artificial colours, phthalates, parabens, or synthetic fillers (like fragrance), which means no harsh ingredients that strip the skin. Check it out! Visit http://au.ayurda.com.
