New App To Revolutionize Access To Birth Control
It’s the Uber of contraception.
In a move that will be welcomed by many, a new app is revolutionizing the way women access contraception.
The app, titled Nurx, is the brainchild of San Francisco based team Hans Gangeskar and Dr. Edvard Engesaeth, and enables women to order birth control by simply clicking a button. In addition, it will be delivered to your front door. Products include three month supplies of the pill, the patch, or NuvaRing.
In order to qualify for receiving birth control via Nurx, users must answer a series of questions. Medical history and their previous experience with contraception are the main features of the questionnaire, as well as information on their health insurance. If they meet the criteria, the medication will be shipped in as little as 24 hours. A trip to the doctor, even a phone call, are all unnecessary with Nurx.
There are a number of perks associated with the app. If you have health insurance, it’s free. If you pay cash, you can get birth control from $15 a month. In addition, Nurx is confidential, secure, and above all, safe. All doctors associated with the app are licensed, and production and delivery methods comply with federal rules.
Obtaining contraception in this safe and confidential way will eliminate much of the anxiety many women feel when purchasing birth control. It will make access faster, and as such, rates of unplanned pregnancy could greatly decrease.
After learning of three million unintended pregnancies, and 50,000 new HIV infections each year in the USA, Gangeskar and Engesaeth were inspired to create the app.
“Coming from a country like Norway, it is difficult for us to understand why birth control is so controversial [here]…it shouldn’t be controversial. Nurx will hopefully be a game changer,” they state.
Although the app is currently restricted to California, Nurx creators have plans to expand to New York, Washington D.C., Illinois, and Washington State. Nurx will prove a revolutionary force in birth control, and take women’s health another step into the future.
