New ways to get your vampire fix!

November 27, 2009

So you’ve read all the “Twilight” books and seen “New Moon” … twice. Now what? There’s a whole vampire world out there waiting for you writes Alicia Tetley.

“Twilight” is a phenomenon. It has every critic, teenager and book lover wishing they could have a bit juicy bite taken out of their neck. But what’s next? Will there ever be another character like Edward? You bet!

“The House of Night” series takes you on a journey with Zoey Redbird and her vampire friends through a series of books with several different boyfriends and love-interests and all kinds of mayhem for one teenage girl. The sixth book has recently been released in Australia and the seventh is due to come out on April 27, 2010.

“The Vampire Academy” series is quite different from all the other vampire books you might have heard of, however it is a must-read. As good as “Twilight” (in some opinions), it is a book based on one girl who is torn between protecting her best friend and following her heart. The fourth book was released in late August, 2009, and the fifth book is yet to be released on May 18, 2010.

“True Blood”, the TV show, which has been loosely based on the books by Charlaine Harris, is centered around one woman named Sookie who is drawn into a world of vampires and werewolves. It’s similar in theme to “Twilight” but not for the faint-hearted. Think lots of nudity and lots of action!

Another TV series that has just aired in Australia over the last month is “The Vampire Diaries”. It involved a deadly threesome and is set to be just as popular as its predecessors. Keep an eye out for it!

So has Australia gone a bit vampire-crazy? No? Of course not! We just dream about meeting a pale guy named Edward who has long teeth and is ridiculously sexy. Or maybe even a werewolf named Jacob. Either way, Stephanie Meyer has definitely started something, and whether or not it’s set to continue is anyone’s guess.
