Matte Skin

Heralding a return to old Hollywood glamour, matte complexions were all the rage at today’s Red Carpet, as seen on everyone from Mariah Carey, Rachel McAdams and “Twilight”/”Up in the Air” star Anna Kendrick (pictured).

Must-have item: A pressed powder is essential to minimise shine and recreate a flawless complexion like Anna’s. Try Nutrimetics’ new nc Velvet Finish Mineral Foundation Powder SPF 12 (RRP $28) – a lightweight, oil-free mineral pressed powder that controls oils where needed and evens out skin tone for a flawless camera finish.

To get the look: First, use a foundation primer such as nc Face Prime Foundation Base to create a smooth base and ensure your foundations stays fresh for hours. Then using a sponge, apply nc Velvet Finish Mineral Foundation Powder SPF 12 to face and throat. Blend the foundation in an outward and downward motion from the hairline to the jaw line, with minimal application over eyes and lips. Build to the desired coverage, blending evenly.

Bright Lips

Another hot trend was bright fuchsia or red pouts, as seen on Sandra Bullock (pictured), Maggie Gyllenhal and Charlize Theron, which perfectly complemented their matte complexions.

Must-have item: A creamy matte lipstick in berry, fuchsia or red. Try nc Classic Fusion Full-Colour Lipstick (RRP $33.50) in Raspberry Sorbet or Ultimate Red.

To get the look: Shape lips with nc Perfecting Lip Pencil in a similar shade before applying nc Classic Fusion Full-Colour Lipstick, using a lip brush for longer wearing colour.

Sultry eyes

A black smoky eye with lashings of grey eyeshadow was another popular look favoured by Nicole Richie, Amanda Seyfried (pictured) and Kristen Stewart. Sultry eyes were the star feature, paired with pale pink cheeks and lips.

Must-have items: Liquid eyeliner and silver/grey eyeshadow. Try nc Liquid Eye Definer Precision Liner Pen (RRP $24) and nc Satin Smooth Eyeshadows (RRP $17) in Starry Sky and Thunder.

To get the look: Apply a light grey eye shadow like nc Satin Smooth Eyeshadow in Starry Sky all over the eye lid using a large brush, extending up to the outer corner of the eye and brow line. Then using a fine, angular brush, apply the same shade under the eye. Line the top and bottom inner rim of the eye using a heavy black kohl pencil and blend smoothly above the whole lash line.

Using a small rounded brush, apply a darker grey or silver eyeshadow like nc Satin Smooth Eyeshadow in Thunder or Ocean to the lash line around the whole eye. Wet the brush and smudge this darker shadow towards the brow bone.

Then apply a liquid eyeliner like nc Liquid Eye Definer Precision Liner Pen for added definition. For final touches, remove any pigment from under the eyes and apply your foundation base, then curl your lashes and apply a volumising mascara like nc Lash Impact Mascara.
