Runway Trends At Fashion Weekend Sydney
Styled by Margaret Zhang of Shine By Three, this year’s runway edit presented over 100 looks from leading Australian fashion designers. Featuring discounted designer threads, it’s a smart way to preview affordable pieces that will keep you on trend this season. Here are five looks direct from the show that will instantly update your wardrobe:
An asymmetric skirt with contrasting panels
This look by Nicola Finetti with its bold diagonal lines will earn you instant fashion cred. Longer skirts with a high asymmetrical split look sophisticated and current.
This Akin by Ginger & Smart skirt is a versatile basic worth snapping up.
A piece in plaid
Bestill my ’90s-loving heart, plaid continues to have a moment. Dress it up or down. And for bonus points, follow the global catwalk trend by tying it around your waist. Look by Christopher Copenhagen.
A bodycon midriff
Not for everybody, bare midriffs and cut-out details are popular at the moment. This style works best with sleeveless athletic silhouettes. So if you’ve got it flaunt it! Those less brave can take comfort that at least relaxed fit pants are back. Look by Winston Wolfe.
A draped cape or coat
A floor-skimming pastel cape draped across the shoulders will give you instant polish. We’ve seen Hollywood A-listers giving good cape on the red carpet, but here Zhang has styled it with streetwear. And it works! Split sleeve or traditional, just keep those arms out!
A hero LBD
All eyes at the Fashion Weekend Sydney catwalk were on the little black dresses by Winston Wolfe. Have fun this autumn/winter with playful hemlines and volumes. Just make sure it’s flattering – a form-fitting LBD is a timeless staple that should see you through all seasons.
