Summer Hair Care

Summer is a welcome change from the chills of winter, however the mix of the sun, sand and surf can also be the recipe for dry, damaged hair if you don?t take the proper precautions. Barney Martin, the award-winning stylist from BARNEY MARTIN HAIRDRESSING in Surry Hills, gives us a few tips to helping your hair look and feel its bests during those hot summer months.

Conditioning Treatments
Intense conditioning treatments and conditioning masks are the ideal way to both care for your hair and help counteract the effects of the sun and surf this summer. Barney also says a leave-in conditioner is a great idea ? especially before venturing out into the sun.

Try out:
The natural aromatherapy ingredients found in Alchemy Lavender & Anthyllis 24 Hour Intensive Moisture Leave in Conditioner. Enriched with jojoba, avocado, macadamia and wheat protein, this product doesn’t damage sensitive skin and is particularly good to protect against environmental factures and heat styling. It leaves hair wonderfully healthy, shiny and silky.
RRP $14.95

Do you suffer from Oily Hair
If you suffer from oily hair, swimming in salt water will help as it does dry it out. Also, make sure you are using the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair type. ?Apply two short shampoos to the scalp where the oiliness originates, and then apply conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends – NOT the roots,? says Barney.

Try out:
Deep cleansing with Affinage White Ice Deep Cleansing Shampoo. It removes the buildup of chlorine and salt without stripping the hair of its natural oils. Ideal for normalising oily hair, it contains soothing properties of peppermint and Vitamin B5 to enrich hair with moisture and strength.
RRP $15.90

Chop Chop
Summer is the perfect time to get a new cut! Try something fresh and fun that will give you a whole new look and also be low maintenance. ?If you?re not up for lopping off a decent amount of hair, at least keep trimming hair regularly because split ends are a common symptom of overstressed summer hair,? says Barney.

If you’re not sure what products to use to style your new do, get some advice from the nu:u range. nu:n is a brand new hair fashion range that helps women style their favourite celebrity looks. It’s pretty simple: if you want straight and sleek hair, buy from the straight and sleek range of shampoo, conditioner, blow-dry balm and thermal protection spray. There’s also ‘big and volume’, ‘curl and movement’, ‘hold and definition’ and ‘colour protection’.
RRP Each product is $18.50.
