Summer Swimwear FAQ
We chat with Alicky Brown, buyer at online swimwear emporium Trixan Body, about summer swimwear trends.
What are the top 3 trends for swimwear this summer?
The one piece is making a huge comeback, we are also seeing high waisted pants and swimwear with more construction, paneling and detailing, similar as you see in lingerie, with boning and padding.
Bikinis or one-pieces – how do you know which one is right for you?
Bikinis suit those girls with more athletic builds and those that are longer in the body. The one piece is great for those girls that are shorter as it adds length, and for those that are more pear shaped as it gives a more lean silhouette.
Which styles would you recommend for different body shapes?
Baku Opposites Attract Spliced Maillot
For a pear shape a one piece is great with some detail in the bust to draw attention to the area. If they prefer a bikini I would go for a print or detailed top and plain pant. Try Baku Opposites Attract Spliced Maillot.
Wahine Boogie Nights Gypsy Halter One Piece
For a short girl go with a one piece in a solid colour to lengthen the body, like the Wahine Boogie Nights Gypsy Halter One Piece.
Seafolly Covent Garden Ruffle Bikini
For a skinny girl frills are perfect as they give the illusion of shape, such as the popular Seafolly Covent Garden Ruffle Bikini.
Seafolly Azzura Halter Singlet
For the bigger girls the one piece or the tankini are perfect. The give coverage and support where needed. Try Seafolly Azzura Halter Singlet.
What are the trends with accessorising swimwear?
Matching kaftans and sarongs or wraps a huge. We are seeing alot offered in the same print as the costume. Glamour is back on our beaches.
We’re seeing better construction, fabrics and details like boning these days. How has swimwear design evolved in the past few years?
I think technology has made this possible, in construction and fabrication. However I feel the consumer is expecting more from the costume, as we are essentially wearing our underwear on the beach for everyone to look at. We are now seeing a return to glamour and girls are putting as much into the look they have on the beach as they do to go out to dinner.
Trixan sells many Australian swimwear brands – which brands are doing well overseas at the moment?
Definitely Jets and Seafolly. Both brands sell globally and have fantastic brand recognition. Australia has gained a reputation abroad for being leaders in the swimwear industry as there is a huge demand for all things Australian, especially in the UK and US.
What’s your next swimwear purchase going to be?
A hot one piece from Jets. I love the idea of bringing fashion to my swimwear collection.
