Top 6 Shoe Trends From NYFW

There’s only one more thing that’s more important than clothing, and of course, it has to be footwear.

A good shoe can change your life (just ask Cinderella), but more importantly, it is an essential part of a killer outfit.

To celebrate the end of New York Fashion Week, we have compiled a list of our favourite footwear of the upcoming autumn/winter season.

Lace-up boots

Where: Alexander Wang

Bring back those dishevelled looking Doc Martens because they’re back in fashion according to Alexander Wang, albeit with a bit of a twist. Not only did he keep the hardware silver, but the boots also had a huge platform. Short girls, rejoice.

Where: Altuzarra

Where’s that old glue-gun? This one’s a DIY just waiting to happen! Altuzarra made a statement with silver studs embellished on shoes, bags, clothes, and… is there anything else? This is a love affair waiting to happen, again.

Where: Boss

Here comes the fun! Boss broke down all those monochromatic outfits with a pop of morange, especially on shoes and handbags. The heels also look super-sturdy, so there won’t be any tumbles.

Where: Derek Lam

Looks like mules aren’t going away anytime soon. They might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but at least we can agree that there won’t be any pesky heel blisters.

Geometric heel

Where: Jason Wu

While they might not give you any extra stability in the rain and snow, they’re at least pretty to look at. Wu’s geometric heels are more of an Instagram-worthy shoe choice that won’t ever get old.

Where: Michael Kors

Appropriate for the office, rainy weather, and even your boyfriend, there’s no denying that oxfords are a practical trend. Michael Kors sent his down the runway with lots of faux fur and cosy ribbed sweaters.

Alexander Wang For H&M Sells Out!

The brand new Alexander Wang for H&M Collaboration hit stores in Sydney and Melbourne on November 6th, and was the global-first in-store launch. Menswear has completely sold out within the first 3 hours, and rightfully so!

You might be able to find a few womenswear pieces floating around in Sydney’s Macquarie Centre and Melbourne’s GPO Flagship store, but there is absolutely no chance of restocking any more products. What you see is what you get!

Where you one of the first to line-up outside of stores this morning at 7am? Guests were treated to parkour performances, beatboxers, and break-dancers at Melbourne’s GPO Flagship store to mark the special 10th anniversary of H&M’s designer collaborations.

Popular items included the monogrammed grey sweater, backpack, and marle sweater which shows us that sports luxe is definitely not going anywhere soon.

Most Stylish Boots Of Fall 2014

Every gal needs a good pair of boots to get her through those colder months. This fall, the boots – like the clothes – are wild. Sixties-mod styles dominate, but there is no shortage of quirkiness if you’re brave enough. Be inspired by these fall runway looks.

Knee-high and thigh-high boots

You can’t go wrong with a classic pair of knee-high boots, like Valentino‘s wide-legged, heels – perfect for both day and night occasions. However, we also love Alexander Wang‘s fresh, modern take on the style, with his low-heeled, tri-toned thigh-highs.

Block heels

On-trend with the popular mod look, are these Lanvin (left) and Gucci (right) boots with square, block heels. Blue is a popular color this season, as is the tan leather. lanvin vogue - gucci

Textures and prints

Snakeskin patterns and reptile textures are hot – just see Tom Ford and Gucci (left-right). However, Valentino is also making waves with his colorful retro-print ankle boots (pictured top). - tom ford glamour gucci

Straps, buckles and laces

Adornments of all kinds were seen on the fall runway, but my personal favorites are the Isabel Marant stiletto boot, and Louis Vuitton‘s tan ankle boot with a patent finish. - isabel marant vogue louis vuitton

Flat and casual

Calvin Klein showed a range of sporty sneaker-boots at his show, but the velvet-textured Doc Martin replicas are the street-friendly winner. Also loving Rick Owens‘ boots/tights/sneakers combo shoe.

Our Favorite Trends For Fall 2014

This season is all about oversized everything, with bulky knits and wide-leg pants featuring prominently on catwalks and sidewalks alike. Bold prints, metallics and the occasional neon color pop are also on-trend, but for pieces that look great on everybody, try these versatile fall fashions.

Sixties mod

This fall is all about sixties retro, particularly the return of the A-line skirt. Whether midi, mini, or in between – the a-line skirt can be dressed up or down. Be inspired by Louis Vuitton’s collection, celebrating warm colors and vintage prints. Gucci, on the other hand, prefers pretty pastels, paired with knee-high boots. guccie3

Robe coats

Look to Altazurra and Richard Chai Love for evidence of this trend. As the cold sets in, you will be eternally grateful for these bulky overcoats. Try with a turtleneck for extra warmth and style points.

Over-the-knee boots

If you’re not already fortunate enough to have this classic wardrobe staple, you should definitely invest in a pair this season. A basic brown or black leather boot is a must for any fall wardrobe. Pair with a mini skirt and turtleneck, a la Alexander Wang.
