“I need to be more accessible, especially to the ones I love.”
This is as offensive as it gets.
It makes us feel better about ourselves to point the finger, but at what cost?
Well, at least now we know how #teamJen feel about the Brangelina split.
Can’t. Stop. Laughing.
For years ISIS have been using terrorism as a tactic, however Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie today warned that terrorist groups are now using rape as the “centre point of their terror” and insisted that the extremists are encouraged to use it as a “very effective weapon.”
Speaking to the House of Lords in London, she said: “The most aggressive terrorist group in the world today knows what we know, knows that it is a very effective weapon and they are using it as a centre point of their terror and their way of destroying communities and families, and attacking and dehumanising.
“This terrorist group we are dealing with in Syria and Iraq is absolutely using rape. They are dictating it as policy.
Jolie, who has long been campaigning the issue, said that it was beyond something the world had ever seen before and urged a “very, very strong response” to the terror groups in Iraq and Syria. “I think the most important thing to understand is what it’s not. It’s not sexual, it is a violent brutal terrorising weapon,” she said.
Sexual attacks on women have become a huge part of the ISIS culture; last year it was revealed that the group had made rape a central part of their religion, an act demonstrating the lengths they are willing to go to exude power and instil terror. In a recent article for CNN, the United Nations special representative of the secretary general on sexual violence in conflict, Zainab Hawa Bangura, came to the disturbing conclusion that the conflict in the Islamic State is in essence “a war on women and girls.”
“The refugees and displaced women and girls I met told me how sexual violence is being committed strategically, in a systematic manner, and with a high degree of sophistication by most of the parties to the conflicts…” she said.
“But while it is true that most parties to the conflict are committing sexual violence, it is extremist groups like ISIL that have been particularly public and shameless in institutionalizing sexual violence and engaging in the brutalization of women and girls as a tactic of terror to advance their key strategic objectives.”
Some of the tactics she pointed out included allowing fighters’ generous access to women and girls in a bid to increase recruitment, using women as a vessel to produce children for fighting purposes, and selling females in slave markets to generate funds for the group.
Zainab’s words echo that of humanity at its absolute worst. Likened to the revival of the slave trade in the 21st century, it’s clear that action needs to be taken and fast. Everyone deserves the right to live in an environment where being a women isn’t something to be ashamed of, or afraid of. According to international humanitarian law, there is an obligation to punish such crimes currently being committed by ISIS, but where and how do we start? Do we fight war with war, or do we find other means of intervening? Ones thing is for certain: the UN needs more support; this is something that needs to be addressed not as a nation, but as a globe.

You’ve heard about the health benefits of quinoa and chia seeds, and here’s another good reason to eat more of them.
Angelina Jolie has started following an ancient grain diet not just for the nutrients, but for the amazing beauty benefits. Apparently eating quinoa, millet, chia seeds, spelt, farro and buckwheat leaves you with glowing skin – hey, we’re sold!
Jolie, who has just left Australia after filming Unbroken and is settling with Brad Pitt and the kids in South Africa, has been snacking on the grains, as well as nuts and seeds, and incorporating them into her daily meal plans.
Nutritionists rave about ancient grains, as they have not been processed like the wheat, corn and rice products we eat today. They have retained essential nutrients, are low in GI and provide many more health benefits than today’s common grains.
Make one of our favourite easy dinner ideas, one-pot farro, tonight!
Forget celebrity diets – we already love ancient grains and their nutty, chewy flavours, but if it can get us gorgeous skin and hair like Angelina’s, we’ll help ourselves to an extra serving!
Do you eat ancient grains? What are your favourite recipes?

2. Twirl hair into a tight bun and tuck in the ends.
3. Swivel one pin twirl in from the top and the other from the bottom of the bun. Do not connect them.
That’s it! The pins are comfortable and keep your chignon secure and in place all day.

Angelina Jolie is making Sydney her home for the next three months to direct her next film, and on Wednesday she made a surprise visit to Tamworth.
After arriving on a small Qantas Dash 8, the actress and her entourage drove to the small town of Werris Creek, 30 minutes away, to scope out locations for the World War II drama, Unbroken.
Local paper The Northern Daily Leader reports that Jolie “stopped in on Mark Woolfe and the crew at Creek Meats and spent time checking out an alley nearby which is believed to be of major interest to the filmmaker”.
Later, she visited a home in Punyarra Street, “charming all and sundry when she stopped to hug the kids and pose for photos.”
Jolie’s six children stayed in Sydney with minders, with Brad Pitt due to join the family in a few days after filming a movie in the U.K.

She did an “Angelina Jolie” long before Angelina did it herself. But while the superstar received global recognition for undergoing a preventative double mastectomy and sharing her experience for the benefit of other women, Krystal Barter’s decision to have the surgery was at time when it was little-discussed or understood.
The lack of information and professional psychological support available in 2008 left the then-25-year-old Sydney mum of two young boys with a devastating sense of isolation and anxiety. Despite the unwavering help and encouragement of her husband, Chris, family and many friends, Krystal felt very much alone.
Rather than succumb to her turmoil she was inspired by her mother, a breast cancer survivor, to channel her experience into a crusade to make the journey a whole lot easier for others in future.
It was conceived in her hospital bed while Krystal was recovering from her preventative double mastectomy and, in 2009, Pink Hope was born. It is Australia’s first online community focusing on informing, empowering and supporting women at high risk of breast and ovarian cancer and their families.
On September 20, Pink Hope is staging its annual Bright Pink Lipstick Day, encouraging women to “wear, share and show you care”; to raise awareness of breast and ovarian cancers as well as funds for Pink Hope’s work. But more of that shortly …
When Krystal made the monumental decision to have both breasts pre-emptively removed and reconstructed, she had lived in the shadow of hereditary breast and ovarian cancers her whole life.
“I grew up part of a family where pretty much every woman didn’t have any breasts,” she says. “Of the 25 women in our extended family, 80 per cent of them died from breast and/or ovarian cancer. My great-grandma was 68 when she was diagnosed. My Nan was 44. My mum, Julie, was only 36. So I also grew up scared I was going to get cancer.”
Krystal’s mother and grandmother were among the first women in Australia to be tested for and diagnosed with the BRCA1 (breast cancer) gene fault, the same as Angelina Jolie’s, which meant that Krystal was at very high risk for developing the disease.
Yet she wasn’t emotionally ready to be tested until she was 22 and cradling her first baby son in her arms. It was then she decided she was finally ready for “the gift of knowledge”. It wasn’t for another three years, however, that she was ready to contemplate a preventative mastectomy and only then when an abnormal mammogram result tipped the balance.
“I wanted to live my life, not under the cloud of cancer, but in happiness with my kids,” she recalls. “I decided, right then and there, book me in. Losing my breasts was such a small price to pay. I had the operation and it felt like my new life started.”
Nevertheless the decision wasn’t a clear-cut one, and nor did she simply recover from her surgical wounds and breeze on with her “new life”.
Preventative mastectomy, even as recently as five years ago, was shrouded in myth and mystery and the lack of information available created a sense of isolation that Krystal found traumatic.
But from childhood, Krystal’s mum had encouraged her to help other people, particularly through charity work. This was the genesis of Pink Hope, “a support network, source of accredited information, haven of support and trusted place to ask questions. [It] is a testament to Krystal’s spirit and dedication,” according to a testimonial when she was nominated for the 2012 NSW Premier’s Woman of the Year award.
“With more than 2500 forum members, millions of web visits, 28,000 social media followers and 100 national ambassadors, the website highlights the importance of Krystal’s storytelling and rare ability to bring people together to raise the profile of hereditary breast and ovarian cancer.”
Krystal, now 30 – and with a third child, daughter Bonnie, added to her brood since her surgery – demurs. “I’m just an example of the 120,000 Australian women who walk this journey every day,” she says. “Having experienced the isolation and lack of information for women like me first hand, I decided to be proactive about helping others.
“I didn’t have anyone to talk to who had gone through what I was going through – throughout my journey from being a young girl whose mother, grandmother and great grandmother had breast cancer, to the genetic testing and the anxiety of knowing I had an 87 per cent chance of breast cancer and up to a 60 per cent chance of ovarian cancer.
“Then there was the preventative surgery itself. There was no support outside the doctor’s office to help me understand my risk and options.
“I thought, `Why hasn’t someone created something to help people like me?’ And then I realised `I am the someone and I’ve got to do it’.
“I came out of surgery knowing I was the first woman in my family who wouldn’t have to battle breast cancer. I felt strong and alive and, for the first time in so long, I felt like `me’ again. I wanted to share this feeling with others and make sure no woman had to go through what I went through alone.
“So as I lay in my hospital bed, I got on my laptop and started Pink Hope. And here we are.”
Bright Pink Lipstick Day came about because “I wanted to give families like mine a day globally that belonged to them,” Krystal says. “I’m a girly girl at heart. I love to wear bright lipstick, so that was the start.
“A big part of the community we’ve created is to be engaging, positive and bright and I wanted to create an awareness day that reflected that.
Wearing bright pink lipstick is a fun and fabulous way to increase awareness and also engage with the community in a way that they can enjoy and share.
“We’ve also aligned Bright Pink Lipstick Day with Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer Month in the US to raise awareness as much as we can on an international, as well as national, level.”
Revlon is a major sponsor of Bright Pink Lipstick Day and, indeed, has created a Limited Edition Pink Hope lipstick that is available this month from Target, Priceline and selected pharmacies.
“By slicking on your brightest pink Revlon lipstick, you are promoting the importance that all women everywhere should be proactive about their breast and ovarian health by investigating their family history,” Krystal adds.
Says Janet Muggivan, Revlon Corporate Communications Asia/Pacific: “Revlon has supported women’s cancers for many years now. The Los Angeles and New York Revlon Runs/Walks have become famous for the funds raised going to women’s cancers.
“We believe Pink Hope is a valuable resource and, as someone who has actually walked that path, Krystal’s work is invaluable to women dealing with cancer.
“Pink Hope and the Bright Pink Lipstick Day have the perfect synergy with Revlon, whose core message is for women to use makeup to express themselves.”
Other business sponsors include Deshabille, Running Bare, Murchison-Hume and Skipping Girl, “who have created gorgeous products and in-store sales for Pink Hope,” says Krystal. “Going Up Elevators has given us an office within their warehouse and space to store everything.
“My family lives and breathes Pink Hope – my mum and grandmas help in the office as well. We literally have one part-time employee and a small group of people who volunteer their time when they can.
“There have been so many amazing people who have helped me along the way. My husband, Mum, Dad and my Nans. They have helped me pack boxes, attend fundraisers, cleaned my house when things have got incredible busy … so much else. It’s a real family effort.
“[Nine Network Today Show co-host] Karl Stefanovic is also an amazing family friend. He made sure Today supported me when we started Pink Hope and has been there ever since. I am so grateful for his support and friendship.
“Bright Pink Lipstick Day is our one big event that can help us to create a more permanent team and help us help the community that no one else is putting the time into.
“We are hopeful we can raise significant money so Pink Hope can grow and keep up with demand. I desperately would love to have a genetic counsellor who works alongside me making sure all the information, support mechanisms and families are supported at a high health care level.”
Although Krystal was in fact the pioneer, she can’t thank Angelina Jolie enough.
“It wasn’t until May this year when we were called upon as the only unique charity to pass comment on Angelina’s story around the country and in the UK that I felt the media, health care community and philanthropic sector could see how truly valuable Pink Hope is,” she says.
“I hope people will give generously to Bright Pink Lipstick Day – either by fundraising, donating, becoming a sponsor or holding a workplace event. Any donation, however big or small, won’t be a drop in the ocean. It will make a huge difference to our charity.”
Krystal’s passion for making other women more at peace with their journey is sharing tit-bits, if you’ll pardon the pun, of personal information about her own experience.
She was recently chatted up by a hopeful admirer, who admired her new-ish cleavage (which she says is better than the one Nature provided). “I said to him, `Well, you know I don’t have any nipples?’. He just replied, `Then you’re the sexiest woman without nipples I’ve ever met …’.”

Don’t film JustinSydney Justin Timberlake fans, be warned ? if you?re going to his concert this week, expect to be individually searched before you enter the venue. Yep, Mr Timberlake is so paranoid about being photographed, he?s ordered security officers at his concerts to search through back packs and handbags for cameras, recording equipment and of course alcohol. Fans should even expect a ?pat down? to make sure they haven?t got anything hiding in their clothes. The media has also been limited in what they can record ? questions about the Kylie butt squeeze, Britney and (of course) the Janet nipple action, are strictly forbidden. How boring.
Brad and JenOceans 12 take over Rome
Two of Hollywood?s spunkiest stars Brad Pitt and George Clooney have been doing as the Romans do. The pair are in the Italian capital for their latest film Ocean?s Twelve, and are grabbing attention everywhere they go. Brad has been seen sipping a cappuccino and laughing with director Steven Soderbergh, while George was spotted shooting in various locations throughout the city. No doubt women all over Rome have been hoping to catch a glimpse of the studly pair. But Brad isn?t noticing, as wife Jennifer Aniston has flown into town.
Angelina and baby MaddoxAngelina?s rainbow vision
Angelina Jolie is stepping up her plans to expand her brood by visiting Russia. The Tomb Raider star has already adopted three-year-old Maddox from Cambodia in 2002. US Weekly reports that the bombshell is thinking of turning to Russia for her next child. An insider has told the mag that “by the end of the year, if everything goes well, she will have a new baby.” The 29-year-old has already visited Russia as a part of her goodwill ambassador duties for the UN High Commissioner. It is well known of her plans to have a rainbow family, but when questioned about having her own child, she says she has mixed feelings. ?I feel like if I did, I would be hounded by that one less child I took out of an orphanage,” she said last year. “My dream is to have under one roof many different cultures and many different religions. I think that would make for amazing people.”
Shrek, the star of Shrek 2Short Takes
Shrek 2 has beaten Finding Nemo as Hollywood?s top grossing cartoon. It has taken US$354 million at the box office… Renee Zellweger has been given permission to lose weight after filming the Bridget Jones sequel… Actress Meg Ryan has denied having an affair with actor John Cusack, saying the only man she?s living with is her son, Jack.
Are Uma and Ethan over?
Despite rumours that divorce is imminent for glamour couple Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, Hawke?s spokesperson is still denying that the star hooked up with a younger beauty. However, a report in The National Enquirer has alleged that Ethan’s had a relationship with 22-year-old Canadian model Jen Perzow. This follows rumours that Hawke locked lips with Tomb Raider star, Angelina Jolie whilst on location filming Taking Lives in Canada. As recently as last month, Hawke?s spokesman Robert Garlock denied all reports of a separation, claiming, “They’ve been spending every weekend together, so the idea of another woman sounds ridiculous to me.” But US tabloids have been rampant with reports of a split, The Star, paper claiming Thurman already knows about her hubby’s extramarital activities with the young model – and it’s over. One source told the paper, “When Uma first got wind of Ethan’s cheating, they talked and she decided that maybe a one-night fling could be just a mistake and they could work through it. But when people told her that he was having an affair and was with the same girl more than once, it appeared as if it was instantly over in her mind. It seemed like there was no talking, no forgiving, no third chances.”
More Kidman wedding rumours?
It seems that the most recent potential beau for Nicole Kidman, is none other than dreadlocked US rocker Lenny Kravitz. Recent reports from New York newspapers suggest Our Nic and Kravitz have become secretly engaged, after he recently joined her while she was on the set of her new movie The Stepford Wives. But are they really an item? Or could it be that the pair are ?just good friends? and that she has been sharing his NYC apartment out of convenience, while her multimillion-dollar apartment is built near by.
The New York Daily News reported this weekend the two were “mighty cuddly” on recent outings together. The US paper cited sources close to Kravitz, some blabber-mouthed friend who refused to named, of course, stating the pair wanted to get hitched. However, Nic?s US agent has denied that there is any truth to the hush-hush engagement rumours and any plans for a future wedding.
Are Posh and Becks heading for splitsville?
Victoria and David Beckham have issued a joint statement denying reports their marriage is in trouble since his move to Spain football team Real Madrid. The couple?s statement, issued in a bid to put an end to rumours that life in Spain was putting pressure on their relationship, insisted they were “extremely happy together”. “Contrary to newspaper reports our marriage is not in crisis,” they said in the statement released through their management team. “We are extremely happy together as a family. Our only difficulty has been finding a house in Madrid that meets our needs. Since we first met, our careers have always meant we have spent time apart.? Becks went on to assure his fans that his wife?s absence has been due to her musical commitments in the UK, not due to any strife at home. “This is not a reflection on the strength of our marriage and we are very much enjoying our new life in Spain.” Becks still hoping that eventually Spain will become a permanent home to his superstar wife and two boys.
Muso Robert Palmer dies
Musician Robert Palmer died of a heart attack in Paris late last week aged 54. The British star was huge in the 80?s, famous for his hits Addicted to Love, Some Guys Have All the Luck and Didn’t Mean to Turn You On. He had been on a much-needed break with partner Mary Ambrose, after a busy time recording TV appearances in the UK. His manager said he suffered the heart attack in the early hours of Friday morning. He will be fondly remember for his ground breaking video Addicted to Love where he featured a band of identically dressed, identically made-up women. Rock journalist Paul Lester, from Uncut magazine, said Palmer career went from playing clubs in the north of the country, to becoming “elegant and sophisticated” and a master of several styles. “He was kind of a pioneer of blue-eyed soul, which is white men doing black music and R&B pretty well.”
No action for Angelina!
You would think Angelina Jolie, the woman with illegal amounts of sex appeal, would be turning men away in droves – especially since she and kooky husband Billy Bob Thornton split over a year. But not so, according to the kick-arse star who is soon returning to the big screen as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. The sultry star recently confessed to US talk show host Jay Leno on The Tonight Show that not only is she currently single, but that she hasn?t dated anyone all year! (Thank goodness, those Nic Cage rumours were pure Hollywood fabrication!) “I haven’t had sex for over a year,” she told Leno. “It’s horrible. God help the next person,? the star quipped, revealing that while she is looking forward to her next romantic encounter, she is more than happy being Mum to little Maddox for the time being. Awww.
Justin needs Mummy?s approval
Seems like Justin Timberlake still needs his mummy?s approval when it comes to affairs of the heart. As things heat up with Cameron Diaz, the rumour mills have gone into overdrive, claiming that Justin is so in love with his new gal pal, he’s even flown his mother from her south Tennessee home all the way to Florida just to meet Diaz. A source close to Timberlake told reporters, “This is an official ‘meet the parents’ summit, Justin’s been telling his pals that Cameron’s the one – he wants to make sure he goes about everything the right way.”
The two stars have been seen out and about quite a lot recently, and just last week the two were spotted at the trendy nightclub called Opium and one fellow clubber told the Daily Star, “Cameron was all over him. She was hanging off his shoulder as he ate. They were very touchy-feely.” Another source who apparently spotted the two lovebirds at the Mint Lounge said, “Justin showed up the other night with Cameron. They had around 20 people fussing over them and he stayed dancing with Cameron until late.” Sounds like a match made in disco heaven, right? Yes, but just to stir the pot a little more, there have been conflicting reports of Diaz being seen out with old flame Jared Leto. Could they just be good friends these days? Maybe. Maybe not!
Mini Me to Marry
Could be that opposites attract really do attract. Standing tall at two-foot 8-inch Goldmember star Verne ?Mini Me? Troyer has announced that he is about to get hitched – to his 29 year old girlfriend. No biggie there, but hang on a sec – Troyer?s girlfriend is 6-foot-2 yoga instructor Genevieve Gallen! Could it be? The ceremony is expected to take place sometime in November. Congrats to the odd (but happy) couple!
Charlie?s Angel star reveals all
