Makeup Tips for Blue Eyes

Whether your eyes are pale blue, bright blue or blue-grey, your beautiful blue eyes are one of your most striking features. Make them pop with the right makeup tips and beauty products to make your blue eyes look their best.

Gorgeous greys
Reese Witherspoon’s subtle grey smokey eye is one of our favourite celebrity makeup looks. The shimmery grey brings out the sparkle in blue eyes. For night, add a little more liner and shadow to make the look more dramatic.

Our favourite products: Dior 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow in Grege, a makeup artist must-have that is the number one product during awards season, is the perfect palette for blue eyes, with luxurious shades of grey and bronze.

Use copper tones
Eyeshadows in rust or copper tones are ideal for blue eyes, especially for a pretty, polished daytime look. The warm hue of the eyeshadow will make your eyes look even bluer, without being too overwhelming for the office. Finish the look with a few coats of black mascara to add more definition to your eyes.

Bronze liner
For blue eyes, there’s no better way to accent your eyes than with a bronze liner. Bronze makes your eyes look bigger and brighter. Apply a deep bronze liner along your top and bottom lash lines for a dramatic look that pairs well with rosy cheeks and a nude lip.

Our favourite products: Lancome Crayon Kohl in Bronze is the ultimate olive bronze that doubles as a soft eyeshadow by smudging across the lid.

Don’t forget beige liner
An eyeliner in a beige shade is always a great choice for blue eyes. The liner helps to wake up the eyes and makes the entire eye area appear more youthful. Always choose beige eyeliner instead of white if your eyes are blue, as white eyeliner tends to look “dirty” against blue eyes. Apply on the waterline, just under the lower lash line and on the inside of the eyes.

Our favourite products: Chanel Le Crayon Khol in Clair is a gorgeous shade of beige that brightens the eyes.

Makeup Tips for Green Eyes

Whether you have light green eyes or hazel eyes, there are so many makeup options to make your eyes pop. You just have to know which colours to use, and which to avoid. Follow these makeup tips and product recommendations to enhance your beautiful green eyes.

Purples are best
Nothing brings out the beauty of green eyes like purple shades. The reason why purple compliments green so nicely is because it’s on the other side of the colour wheel from green, so look for shades of plum, violet and grape.

You don’t have to do an all-purple eye: replace your black eyeliner with a dark purple eyeliner, or look for a light grey-lavendar shadow for everyday makeup.

Our favourite productsClinique Quickliner for Eyes Intense in Intense Plum. We don’t leave home without it. To really make the eyes pop, line the waterline and upper lash line with this dramatic purple liner.

NARS Eye Paint in Tatar is an intense cream eyeshadow that every green-eyed girl should put on their wish list. With just the right amount of shimmer, use it to line the eyes (it makes an incredible cat eye) or blend over the lid for a sexy evening smoky eye.

Go for gold
Copper and gold tones are also perfect for highlighting green eyes. Also look for soft brown eyeshadows with flecks of gold. Choose a brown mascara instead of black to avoid a harsh contrast.

Our favourite products: Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics Pressed Eyeshadow Quads in Moulin Rouge. The copper Can-Can eyeshadow is perfect for making green eyes pop, while the chocolate brown Cabarets eyeshadow doubles as a perfect eyeliner.

Avoid blues, silvers and whites
Blues clash with green eyes, so try to avoid blue eyeshadow and eyeliner. And avoid silver if metallic tones are your thing – warmer metallics are your friend.
