Best And Worst Dressed At The Met Gala 2015

And it’s a wrap! Yesterday, anyone who’s anyone in the music, film, and fashion industry walked the red carpet of the 2015 Met Gala. There really is no other event – except for maybe the Oscars – with an impressive guest list like the Met Gala.

Every year has a different theme, this year it was “China: Through The Looking Glass” and even though guests don’t necessarily have to go with the theme when it comes to their red carpet outfits, we could see Asian influences in a lot of celebrities’ styles.

As with every big red carpet event, you always get the good, the bad, and the ugly. So let’s take a look at the best and worst dressed at the Met Gala 2015:

Best Dressed

Amanda Seyfried looked stunning in a white Givenchy Haute Couture gown with lots of delicate embroidery and ruffling. It could have easily have been too much, but thanks to the simple colour and sleeked back hair, it was perfection.

Gigi Hadid has had an amazing year so far and is quickly becoming a red carpet pro. Her red Diane von Furstenberg dress fitted her like a glove and showed just the right amount of skin to be sexy but not cheap.

You might not have heard of Bee Schaffer, but the daughter of Anna Wintour proves that style is in her DNA with this dark red Alexander McQueen gown – clearly inspired by traditional Chinese fashion.

Nobody wears pants on a red carpet better than Diane Kruger. Her embellished Chanel two-piece looked a million dollars on her (the price might not be too far off actually).

Rihanna completely stole the show in her over-the-top yellow gown which required several people to carry it every time she wanted to move. The reason we love it is the fact that Rihanna put some thought into her outfit choice by going with Chinese designer Guo Pei, who actually took 2 years to make this outfit. It definitely deserves all the attention it’s getting.

Worst Dressed

Katy Perry is arguably one of the most beautiful women on this planet, but unfortunately her outfit choice for this year’s Met Gala was all kinds of wrong. The graffiti inspired Moschino dress is neither elegant, nor cool, and definitely has nothing to do with the theme of the night. And don’t even get us started on her hair…

Is Solange Knowles wearing one of those funny mirrors that you can find at carnivals? Is it a satellite dish? Or ist it just a weird print? If a dress evokes that many questions, don’t wear it.

Elizabeth Banks unfortunately chose a dress that just doesn’t do her any favours. Wrong colour combined with the wrong cut, plus boring styling.

Gold is a good colour on Anne Hathaway, however we just don’t get the hood. It would have been a better look without it.

Dakota-Johnson

The notion that ‘less is more’ is not always right, especially when it comes to the length of a dress. Unfortunately, Dakota Johnson’s sparkly mini dress is simply not appropriate for a red carpet and should have been saved for the after-party.

Best And Worst Dressed On The Oscars Red Carpet

It was chic and elegant all the way down the red carpet at the 87th Annual Academy Awards as a sea of black, white and red stole the show – despite the wet and rainy conditions in LA.

The Most Shocking Red Carpet Dresses

I always look forward to the award season and the fashion that comes with it – most celebrities choose tasteful attire, but there are always a few questionable outfit choices that turn heads for all the wrong reasons. So here we look back at some of the most shocking dresses (or costumes) to ever grace the red carpet.

Lady Gaga is well known for stepping our in some shocking attire but this meat dress that she wore to the 2010 MTV Music Awards really took the cake. Made from raw meat the dress was meant to be in protest of gay soldiers who had been discharged of service. She said about the dress “Dead meat is dead meat and anyone that’s willing to risk their life and die for their country is the same. You’re not gay and dead, straight and dead. You are dead.”

The Most Shocking Red Carpet Dresses

Nicki Minaj is another celebrity who loves to make us gasp when she steps into the limelight and this little red riding hood inspired dress was no exception. At the 2012 Grammy Awards she was slammed for this dress for unsuccessfully trying to compete with the crazy style of Lady Gaga.

The Most Shocking Red Carpet Dresses

Sasha Gradiva is a Russian singer and wore this bizarre terminator-style ensemble to the 2012 Grammy Awards. On her official website she stated that she loves fashion that makes her stand out from the crowd and this dress teamed with the odd fake gun accessory definitely had the desired effect.

The Most Shocking Red Carpet Dresses

Baring all and leaving nothing to the imagination, Rihanna set tongues wagging at the 2014 CFDA Awards, there to accept her CFDA Fashion Icon award. She was heard telling reporters that “you will never be stylish if you don’t take risks.” I agree with her statement, but disagree with that dress!

The Most Shocking Red Carpet Dresses

Former Playboy model Tess Smith left us all asking one question when she stepped out on the 2005 Emmy Awards red carpet – WHY? All it would have taken was one gust of wind and the crowd might have seen more than they bargained for. Tess Smith took the phrase less is more way too literally on this occasion.

The Most Shocking Red Carpet Dresses

Stepping back in time to 1999, Lil Kim shocked many at the MTV Video Music Awards in this purple mermaid-inspired jumpsuit. Many years later in 2013 controversial Miley Cyrus recreated the look for Halloween and set the media into a frenzy once again.  I can’t really decide who wore it better because it’s just so… wrong.

The Most Shocking Red Carpet Dresses

When Amber Rose stepped out in this skimpy dress (if you can call it a dress) at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards she certainly turned heads. Wearing a Laura Dewitt design she didn’t leave much to the imagination in this sparkly, bejewelled number.

Best And Worst On The Logies 2014 Red Carpet

The Logies have been notorious for some of the best frocks and some of the worst shockers in Australian fashion – and last night was no exception. There was, of course, a common trend thread – this year black, white, lace and muted colours were the hot picks. Scotty Cam may have taken home the Gold Logie this year but the style stunners of the night, without a doubt, were Jesinta Campbell, Rebecca Judd and Jennifer Hawkins.

Other stunners included Kylie Minogue, Sonya Kruger and Jessica Morais:

Get The Look: Kerry Washington’s Pretty Emmys Makeup

Kerry Washington is one of our best dressed celebrities at the Emmys in her spectacular Marchesa princess gown, but her makeup was also a standout, with soft, smokey eyes and nude lips. Celebrity makeup artist Carola Gonzalez created this perfect makeup look and shares the exact products she used. “The inspiration came from the delicate dress,” Carola said. “Although I like a matte finish, especially for awards shows, I added a radiance to her skin with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light. It’s the perfect shade for Kerry.”

Skin

Prime the skin with Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer, and follow withHourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation in Warm Beige. “I’m really impressed with the airbrushed finish this foundation creates,” says Carola. “And I really don’t need to use powder anymore.” Conceal any imperfections with Clé de Peau Beauté Concealer in Honey.

Eyes

Apply the mauve shimmer shade from Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Exhibition to the inner corner of the eyes and the lids, and the eggplant shimmer shade to the outer edge of the eye and beneath the bottom lash line. Blend the two shades together. Apply Ardell Natural Lashes in 110, line the eyes with Hourglass Script Precision Liner in Jett, and finish off with three coats of Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara.

Define the brows with Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Dark Brunette.

Cheeks

Apply Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light on the cheekbones, forehead, nose and chin. Apply Lancôme Blush Subtil in Sparkling Rose to the apples of the cheeks and sweep towards the temples.

Lips

Prep lips with Hourglass No. 28 Lip Treatment Oil for superior hydration. Apply Hourglass Extreme Sheen Lip Gloss in Truth, a beige rose, for the finishing touch.

What do you think of Kerry Washington’s Emmys 2013 makeup?

Golden Globes Best Dressed

The Golden Globes have just begun with Ricky Gervais hosting – and the red carpet has never looked so glamourous. From Angelina to Reece, who is your best dressed?

Angelina Jolie

Can you say it – stunning! Angelina has been a little boring on the red carpet lately so it’s fantastic to see her at her glam best.

Reece Witherspoon

A bombshell in red, topped with fabulous Barbie hair.

Jessica Alba

The hottest new mum around, Jessica glows in this lavender taupe strapless gown.

Natalie Portman

Schiaparelli pink is so pretty on this bright young thing.

Heidi Klum

The perfect minimalist nude dress (who else but Calvin Klein) topped with an exquisite turquoise bib necklace and matching ring.

Dame Helen Mirren

A vision in navy, Helen gives us all a lesson in elegant dressing.

Kate Winslet

Love this black and white number with the perfect coifed updo.

Claire Danes

Another interesting black and white dress, this time by Prada.

Nicole Kidman

It’s not the most exciting look of the night, but the intricate Versace gown compliments Nicole’s pale skin and golden tresses perfectly.

Mila Kunis

Mila has the skin and eyes to pull off an all-black gown without looking goth; instead, she looks drop dead gorgeous in Dior Couture.

People’s Choice Awards Best And Worst Dressed

We’re not really sure what the People’s Choice Awards are about, but the celeb-packed event kicked off awards season with some stunning red carpet looks – and a few shockers too.

Lea Michelle Love the bright lips juxtaposed with the spider web lace flapper dress, paired with sparkly Jimmy Choos.

Emma Stone Who says you need to a wear a gown to an awards ceremony? Especially when Gucci are dressing you in a playful tux.

Vanessa Hudgens Love the Old Hollywood gown, but it just feels too old for 23-year-old Vanessa.

Ginnfer Goodwin I’m biased: I adore neon. Plus Ginnifer is too cute for words. Love a bit of quirky fashion at awards night!

Miley Cyrus I never thought I’d say this, but I love what Miley Cyrus is wearing. This off-white illusion dress makes her look grown up for a change.

Kristen Bell Not sure if this lace and leather Valentino dress is naughty or nice?

Kelly and Sharon Osbourne “Mum hates my hair” tweeted Kelly hours after premiering her new powdery grey locks. For what it’s worth, I hate it too.

Portia and Ellen DeGeneres Portia and Ellen make one fine-looking couple. And so happy! Who is your best and worst dressed from the People’s Choice Awards 2012?
