The modelling industry has been getting a bad rep as of late and now superstar Cara Delevingne has added even more fuel to the fire.
Opening up to The Times, the 23-year old confirmed that she won’t be “doing fashion work anymore” after dropping her management company in recent months; however, the seemingly quirky and overly confident fashionista turned actress revealed that the reason behind her decision wasn’t just to focus on her film career, but instead because she was left hating her body.
“Modelling just made me feel a bit hollow after a while. It didn’t make me grow at all as a human being. And I kind of forgot how young I was… I felt so old,” Delevingne told the mag.
Speaking out about the constant demands of the industry, she added: “I was, like, fight and flight for months. Just constantly on edge. It is a mental thing as well because if you hate yourself and your body and the way you look, it just gets worse and worse.”
After being in the industry for nearly a decade and as one of the most influential models in the world, you’d be quick to assume that Delevingne would be well acquainted with, and comfortable in, the business. Even the most awe-like human beings have their limits, though, and the stress of the profession led her to develop anxiety and the skin condition psoriasis, she said.
“People would put on gloves and not want to touch me because they thought I was like, leprosy or something.”
The actress later went on to criticise the industry for sexualising young girls and revealed that as a teen she was made to feel like she couldn’t say no to proactive poses. “I’m a bit of a feminist and it makes me feel sick. It’s horrible and disgusting,” she told The Times. “You start when you are really young and you do, you get subjected to… not great stuff.”
This comes off the back of the recent exploitation of 14-year-old model, Sofia Mechetner. After signing a $200,000 contract with Dior, the young teen was then paraded down the runway wearing a sheer, see through dress. While the brand said that it was “all for art” and not meant to appear sexy, one has to question why a multi-million dollar fashion house is choosing pre-pubescent girls to showcase adult clothing.
Tell us your thoughts… When is enough, enough?
Supermodel turned actress Cara Delevingne has abandoned her bronde locks in favour of something a little more festival for summer. She was recently spotted at the Osheaga music festival in Montreal supporting girlfriend, St Vincent. Get this cotton candy hair colour, which is also temporary, with a few of our tips.
1. Make sure your hair is light enough to take in the colour. There are a number of pre-lightening formulas available from the supermarket or the drugstore which are easy to try at home.
L’Oréal Feria Extra Bleach Blonde, $9.99
2. If you’re using a cream colour, apply it first to your scalp then onto the ends of your hair. Use a comb to evenly distribute the colour without leaving any patches of hair uncoloured.
Manic Panic Classic Semi Permanent Vegan Hair Colour in Cotton Candy Pink, $19.95
3. Another way to wear this trend is with hair chalk. It’s a great alternative if you want to test out the colour for one night – it’ll wash-off in the shower. Apply the chalk directly onto your hair, then rub it in gently to become more pigmented.
Splat Hair Chalk in Dusty Rose, $5.99
Dark brows aren’t going anywhere anytime soon, especially since celebrities such as Cara Delevingne and Lily Collins have added their own personal twist to the trend.
Below are just a few wearable hair and makeup styles which work amazingly well with dark, structured eyebrows.
The classic top knot is a perfect hairstyle for dark, structured brows since it draws attention to them! Remember to fill in any gaps with a liner brush and lashings of mascara are an absolute must.
A dark lip is an essential part of your makeup kit since it really pulls an entire look together – especially during the autumn/winter months. Pair with carefully groomed brows for the ultimate statement look.
If you have a special event coming up, why not match your accessories to your hair and makeup. In this case, we’re loving the models dark brows with a beautiful red lip and huge statement earrings. Hair is best tied back to focus on the makeup look.
Any type of shimmery eyeshadow is perfect for those who want to add a little sparkle into their look. Combine with groomed brows and lots of mascara for your go-to makeup look.
Don’t forget to moisturise your skin well before prepping it for a dewy, translucent moisturiser or BB cream. It adds the finishing touches to a ‘just rolled out of bed’ look which is perfect for those drowsy mornings!
Highlight the inner corner
If your eyes are hooded, it’s a great idea to use a white eyeliner pencil to make them look bigger. An inner corner highlight is a must to bring attention to the higher parts of the face, and don’t forget that brow gel to tame those stray hairs!
For instant night-time glam, start with a neutral makeup base and focus your attention on your brows and lips. For the lips, line them with a pale pink shade for longevity before adding a lipstick shade over the top.
A wispy side bun is another great way to add a little dimension to your face without spending hours in front of the mirror. Fill in your brows as usual, then dab some lipstick onto your lips with your finger before heading out the door.

Cara Delevingne is best known for her statement brows, but she was spotted rocking another big beauty trend at the annual Brit Awards: a smokey eye.
While it can look rather complex, this trend is actually really simple to replicate, especially if you’re using cream products which are easy to blend.
1. Even if you don’t suffer from oily eyelids, it’s always a good idea to apply a primer. Not only will it keep your lids from producing too much oil, but it will help to keep your makeup in place for hours.
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion, $17.90
2. Next, use a matte, neutral colour for the base of your eyelid. This will help to hide any prominent dark circles or veins. Use a cream eyeshadow and gently buff it in with your fingers in a patting motion across the lid.
Nars Cream Eyeshadow in Galapagos, $34
3. To create the smokey eye, use another cream eyeshadow in charcoal and concentrate it mostly on the centre of your eyelid. Blend out with an eyeshadow brush to create a seamless look.
For more of an impact, carefully draw a thin line on your bottom lash-line and blend with the same eyeshadow brush.
By Terry Ombre Blackstar Cream Eyeshadow in Misty Rock, $56
4. Use a highlight shade on the inner corner of your eye and gently pat it with your fingers.
Too Faced Candlelight Glow Highlighting Powder Duo, $39
5. Since the look is quite dramatic, make sure to plump those lashes! Curl, then coat with a waterproof mascara. It stays in place all day!
Lancome Hypnose Waterproof Mascara, $54

We have less than a week to go before the biggest runway event of the year – the Victoria’s Secret fashion show. This landmark event has been running since 1995 and has transcended a mere catwalk show. With performances from the biggest pop acts in the world, and the industry’s biggest supermodel names, there is no doubt why the Victoria’s Secret special is the only fashion show to be broadcast internationally on mainstream tv networks. The show will be aired on Tuesday, December 9 on CBS, and here is everything you need to know in the lead up to the big night.
1. The Angels
To be granted your Victoria’s Secret “wings” is the modelling equivalent of winning an Oscar. These ladies are at the top of the beauty game, only to be exceeded by retired Angels, such as Tyra Banks, Gisele Bundchen, Miranda Kerr. The line-up this year includes: Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Behati Prinsloo, Candice Swanepoel, Doutzen Kroes, Karlie Kloss, Lily Aldridge and Lindsay Ellingson.
2. Their Instagram Accounts
Follow your favorite model on Instagram for the biggest scoop. Start with the Victoria’s Secret account (@victoriassecret), and try resident photographer Jerome Duran (@jeromeduran) for bonus snaps. To get in on the action, use the official hashtag #VSFashionShow.
Adriana Lima – @adrianalima
Alessandra Ambrosio – @alessandraambrosio
Behati Prinsloo – @behatiprinsloo
Candice Swanepoel – @angelcandices
Doutzen Kroes – @doutzen
Karlie Kloss – @karliekloss
Lily Aldridge – @lilyaldridge
Lindsay Ellingson – @lindsellingson
3. The Fantasy Bra
Among the big news this year is that there will be TWO Victoria’s Secret Fantasy Bras. For the first time, Brazilian duo Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosia will be filling out the bras, which are valued at $2 million each! The most expensive lingerie sets in the world are encrusted with thousands of amethysts, topaz, diamonds, sapphires, garnets and 18k gold… essentially enough bling to enrich a small country.
4. The other models
According to the casting agents, the recipe for VS models is personality, proportions (well, duh), glowing skin and a killer smile. There are rumored to be 44 models hitting the catwalk in this year’s show. Keep an eye on the fresh faces of 2014 because this year’s newcomers might be the next Gisele. Victoria’s Secret posts a casting video each year, take a look at this year’s competition.
5. The Music
This year Taylor Swift (who also performed at last year’s show), Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande and Hozier will be taking the stage (runway?) to provide the strut-worthy soundtrack.
6. Cara Delevingne And Kendall Jenner Will NOT Be Walking
I repeat, Cara Delevingne and Kendall Jenner will not be walking. For those who passionately follow VS news, this might be a big deal since these have been two of VS’ most famous faces in the past. This year, Delevingne and Jenner passed up the gig in favor of their old pal Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel. It’s tough being a model, right?

Do you suffer from intolerable brows that are naturally too thin, or even too coarse to tame? The secret to perfect brows is a solid skincare routine which requires minimal maintenance for maximum results. Follow our five simple tips for better groomed brows in no-time! All you need is some patience and a lot of attention to detail.
DO: Use an eyebrow serum
Are your brows natural super-thin and don’t grow much? This could all come down to over-plucking or basically removing too much hair from your eyebrows over the last few years. Even if your brows don’t naturally have an arch, it’s best to let them grow out, and get them maintained by a professional on a bi-monthly basis.
Otherwise, you can always turn to eyebrow serum, which helps to grow back your brows if you have any bald patches. Just apply the serum in a small concentrated area (making sure not to get it anywhere else on your face!), and you will see results after the first month.
We recommend: Prevage Clinical Lash + Brow Enhancing Serum, $56
If you don’t want to slaughter your eyebrows one at a time, then we highly suggest that the tweezers should never come out. They’re good for plucking a few stray hairs here and there, but never rely on them to shape your brows. The hair could break, and can result in painful in-grown hairs instead.
Have you every thought about moisturising your brows? Every night while applying a night moisturiser, run the product through your brows as well. This will tame any dry skin patches that run from the beginning of the brow, but also will smooth down any stray hairs.
We recommend: Estée Lauder DayWear Advanced Multi-protection Antioxidant SPF, $45-65
DON’T: Over-draw your brows
Give your brows a little definition by filling in any patchy areas with a powder or eyebrow pencil. The best way to do this is by lightly applying the product, then combing it out so it looks natural.
Avoid the ‘scouse brow’ which is commonly referred to a much darker brow, especially where the brow begins. Choose a colour which is as close as possible to your natural brows.
DO: Contour your brows
Make sure the shape of your brows works with your face shape. As a general rule it’s best to avoid super thin brows since this look often feels fake and artificial. The arch of your brow should usually align with the tip of your eye colour.

John Hardy has debuted the campaign for Fall 2014, featuring Cara Delevingne, shot in Bali, the birthplace and home of the John Hardy brand. Featuring Delevingne and Canadian male model Simon Nessman, the campaign was shot in the pristine natural environment in East Bali, capturing the essence of the brand. Adorned in John Hardy’s handcrafted luxury jewelry, Delevingne’s one-of-a-kind beauty and passionate personality shine through the images.
Delevingne described the experience as “a true adventure” saying: “The team was amazing to work with, the energy and creativity was incredible. The shoot was so raw; I didn’t want to leave Bali.”
While in Bali, Delevingne took the time to experience firsthand the John Hardy way of life – from the collaboration between designers and local artisans, its workshop where each piece is crafted by hand using ancient techniques, to its Greener Every Day initiative, and the brands continued support of local communities, all integral parts of the brand’s ethos of meaningful beauty.
“I can’t begin to describe how magical it was going to the John Hardy workshop. I was able to see the artisans at work and see how happy they are. I want to live there. The craftsmanship and the pure love that goes into hand-making every piece is so real you can just feel it,” Delevingne said.
The campaign, shot by internationally renowned photographer and film director, Sebastian Faena, under the creative direction of advertising veteran, David Lipman, will be launched worldwide in October. John Hardy was founded in Bali in the 1975 and has established itself as a pioneer of Sustainable Luxury™, with its unique handcrafted jewelry collections available in 27 countries and regions around the world.

We envision this campaign as an artistic expression of our brand’s essence, paying homage to our rich heritage and at the same time creating a bold, modern vision for the brand. Cara, like John Hardy jewelry, is one of a kind. Her independent and irreverent nature personifies the ethos and spirit of our brand.”

Supermodel Cara Delevingne might reinvent her look from one day to the next, but she’s the queen of one of our favourite celebrity hairstyles – sexy, straight hair. What sets this look apart is finishing the style with a few softly tousled waves so it doesn’t look too stiff and unapproachable. If you have medium to long hair, this is such a pretty look for summer that will take you from coffee to cocktails. Here’s how you can recreate this on-trend hairstyle in just five easy steps.
1. Prep your hair with TRESemme Keratin Smooth Shampoo & Conditioner to create a smooth foundation. TRESemme stylist Joh Bailey’s smooth style tip: “When you are washing your hair ensure you are massaging the product in a downward direction from the top of the hair cuticle to the bottom to prevent it from frizzing.”
2. Spray damp hair with TRESemme Keratin Smooth Heat Protection and Shine Spray and comb through from the root to tip. This lightweight spray will reduce the frizz.
3. Blast the hair dry, using a strong bristle round brush, pull your hair downwards, moving the dryer down the hair slowly to remove moisture.
4. Use a comb to create a central parting and straighten the length of the hair with an iron.
5. Take sections of your hai and wrap the iron around the lower half to achieve soft and messy waves. Set the look with a sprtiz of TRESemme TRES 2 to hold.
