Get ready for summer with one of our favourite trends of the season: red lipstick. This simple makeup product is ideal in transforming your look from day to night and looks flattering on everyone!
1. Embrace your healthy summer glow by emphasising your freckles with a light, tinted moisturiser. Apply it only over your problem areas (such as pimples and spots) and by using a damp cosmetic sponge.
Eve Lom Radiance Perfected Tinted Moisturiser, $81
2. Lightly dust a shimmery eyeshadow over your lids to makeup your eyes pop. Use a blending brush to smooth-out any harsh lines.
STILA Eyes Are The Window Eyeshadow Palette, $72
3. Dust a matte bronzer over your forehead, chin and cheeks to even-out that summer glow. Matte formulas are best since they make your tan look natural!
Too Faced Sunny Bunny Bronzer, $39
4. Finish off your look with a thin layer of mascara and top it with a matte lip. Pencils are great since they can define the lips without taking too long to apply. If the shade is too pigmented, rub-off the excess with your finger. Easy!

While the rest of us have only just managed to properly contour, there’s a brand new beauty trend which is already making waves around the internet.
Strobing is all about bringing light to the cheekbones and illuminating the face using highlighters and other light-reflecting makeup products. Here’s everything you need to know about perfecting the glow without looking like a disco ball!
The best way to set your base for makeup is to moisturise. It helps to hydrate dry skin, and keeps oily spots away – especially if your skin is slightly on the greasy side.
Use a highlighting shade on freshly moisturised skin to avoid the overly frosty look. If you have a lighter skin tone, then a champagne colour is best, and if your skin is darker, look for terracotta tones to bring out a warm base.
Apply the highlighter on places which would normally catch the light – cheekbones, brow-bones, forehead, and above the cupid’s bow. Blend out the makeup using your fingers, a stippling brush, or even a damp cosmetic sponge for a long-lasting finish.
Warm up the rest of your face as usual, but stick to a matte formula (especially if you have oily skin). Only use shimmer in your highlighter, and keep your other products looking matte for a consistent finish.
Set your entire makeup look by lighting dusting a translucent powder over your t-zone, cheekbones, and chin. This will keep your makeup in place for longer, but a few blotting papers packed away in your clutch are always a good back-up to have!
Would you try strobing?

Supermodel Miranda Kerr has the perfect base for almost any makeup look, with just one of our favourites including a deep-red lip stain. This trend is really easy to master (even for beginners), and lasts for hours even if you’re eating and drinking.
We share some of the best ways to apply your lip stain, and how to get Miranda’s trendy look this season.
Most lip stains are quite opaque, meaning they are packed with colour and rarely give you a natural, glossy look. Use a liquid lip stain to create a subtle pop of colour on both your cheeks and lips. The best way to apply this is with your fingers, and pat gently onto moisturised lips.
ModelCo Cheek and Lip Tint, $26
Just like liquid lip stains, crayons are easy to apply and give you a lot of control. Start by lining the lips, then colour the inside. Fix up any errors by dipping an cotton bud into a micellar water, and dabbing the surrounding area.
Tarte LipSurgence Matte Lip Tint in Lively, $30
If you want your lip stain to stay on for hours, then a stick is your best option. Use a lip brush to carefully fill in any gaps, and reach those difficult places. Make sure to moisturise and exfoliate your lips before using a dark shade, since these colours have the tendency to emphasise cracks and dry patches.
Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella, $36
While the thought of applying a marker onto to your lips may feel rather unsettling at first, it’s one of the best ways to maintain a bright colour. Make sure to firstly line your lips, then dab the product from top to bottom. It will take just a few minutes for the first layer to dry, before applying a second for a deep glow.
3CE Lip Marker, $31
Keep your lips feeling hydrated by moisturising well before applying a lip stain. These formulas are known to be a little more harsh, and can disrupt the delicate nature of your skin. Add one coat, and wait for it to completely absorb before applying a lip stain over the top.
Nuxe Reve de Miel Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm, $19.95
If you’re not a fan of the matte look, use a clear gloss over the lip stain. Not only does this help to lock-in the colour, but will also create the illusion of luscious lips – just like Miranda!

Kim started with La Mer Moisturizer, followed by Narcissist Stick Foundation to create a flawless base, and set with Laura Mercier Translucent Powder and Dr. Haushka’s Face Powder.
Next, Rokael used Kardashian Beauty’s Endless Summer Matte Bronzer for Kim’s famous glow.

Celebrity makeup artist Jake Bailey created Katy Perry’s pretty, glowing Grammys makeup, and shares some easy makeup tips for recreating the look at home!
“I started by prepping her skin with Olay’s new Regenerist Luminous Tone Perfecting Cream.
Once the moisturiser had absorbed, I got to work on the skin. Since we were going for maximum “glow,” I mixed equal parts COVERGIRL BB cream and COVERGIRL TruBLEND Liquid Foundation on the back of my palm before buffing it all over her face and neck with a soft brush for sheer coverage and a polished glow.”
“I started the eye look by painting a delicate line onto her lashline and a subtle cat eye wing in the outer corners of her eyes using COVERGIRL Bombshell Liquid Liner.
I then coated her lashes with Bombshell Volume Mascara, top and bottom. I used the first coat to get that volumised look and then applied the second coat for the intense jet black wet lash look.
I then applied Bombshell Shine Shadow in Gold Goddess into the crease of her eyelid and highlighted her lids and browbones with Flamed Out Shadow in Blazing White.
I finished the eye look with a strong brow and a coat of clear mascara to hold them in place.”
“Once I finished with the eyes, I warmed and highlighted her complexion using COVERGIRL TruMAGIC Sunkisser and Luminizer. I blended the Sunkisser along the hairline and into the hollows of the cheeks to add warmth and dimension.
I then took the Luminizer and used it to add a golden glow to her cheekbones, tip of her nose and just above the cupids bow of her lips.
Once I set the makeup with COVERGIRL + Olay Pressed Powder, I dusted a little bit of shimmery coral blush on the apples of her cheeks.”
“I finished the look with a fresh coral/pink shade called “Heavenly” from the COVERGIRL LipPerfection collection and tipped it with a touch of balm for extra shine.”

Keira Knightley wore a dramatic navy smoky eye to the L.A. premiere of her latest movie Jack Ryan. Here’s how celebrity makeup artist Kate Lee created the look, with some easy makeup tips for recreating the look at home.
Kate started by prepping Keira’s flawless skin with the soon-to-be-released CHANEL Hydra Beauty Crème. Then she applied CHANEL Vitalumière Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Sunscreen Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 for a natural glow.
To accentuate Keira’s incredible cheekbones, she dusted Le Blush Crème de Chanel in Cheeky, a pretty nude blush (hitting stores in May) on the apples of her cheeks.
This look is all about the eyes, and since Keira was wearing a CHANEL navy dress, Kate decided to play that up with a navy smoky eye.
She started by lining the inside of the eye, upper and lower lash line with CHANEL Le Crayon Khôl Intense Eye Pencil in Marine, gently blending on the lash line.
Then she applied one of our favourite liquid eyeshadows, CHANEL Limited Edition Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Apparition, a beautiful shimmering navy.
After curling the lashes, Kate applied one coat of CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir.
This look only needs a very natural lip, so Kate used CHANEL Rouge Coco Hydrating Crème Lip Colour in Mademoiselle for a simple, just-bitten colour.

Jessica Chastain looked radiant and glamourous at the Golden Globes 2014, with flawless skin, sexy eyes and rosy lips. Here’s how celebrity makeup artist Kristofer Buckle created the look, with some fabulous makeup tips for recreating the look at home.
Kristofer enhanced Jessica’s porcelain complexion using Le Teint Touche Éclat in B10, and the cult favourite touch éclat #1 pen to cover any little imperfections and to lighten up dark lines around the eyes. We’ve been using touch éclat for years – it really is that good!
Kristofer then applied Blush radiance #4 on her cheeks for a natural, rosy glow.
Jessica has beautiful green eyes, which Kristofer enhanced using eye shadows from the the Ombres 5 Lumières #3 Tawny palette to instantly lighten and widen her expression.
On Jessica’s lashes, Kristofer applied three coats of the Singulier Waterproof black Mascara. He applied it only on the top lashes to give her eyes a sultry doe-eyed look.
Kristofer used Rouge Pur Couture in Fuschia (#19) to achieve Jessica’s perfect pout. This is one of our favourite lipsticks – a vibrant fuchsia that is completely wearable whether you have pale, tan or dark skin.

Does Reese Witherspoon ever have a celebrity style misstep? Luckily we’ve got the exact beauty products and makeup tips used to create Reese’s glowing Golden Globes makeup, direct from her celebrity makeup artist Mai Quynh.
Mai started by hydrating the skin with La Praire Skin Caviar Luxe Cream, then creating a flawless base with Laura Mercier Foundation Primer.
She then applied the soon-to-be-released Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide Foundation with a sponge, concealing any blemishes and under eye circles with Laura Mercier Secret Concealer and Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage.
To get Reese’s natural glow, Mai layered two blushes on the apples of the cheeks: one cream, one powder. This creates a gorgeous glow-from-within and your blush lasts much longer. She started with Laura Mercier Crème Cheek Colour in Praline and then topped it with Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour in Peach Whisper.
When you’re doing makeup for weddings or events and using a lot of beauty products, you want to finish with a setting powder and a light dusting of bronzer to make it look natural and not too makeup-y. Mai set the look using Laura Mercier Pressed Setting Powder in Translucent, and swept Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Powder Bronze over the forehead, cheeks and chin (this bronzer smells divine!).
Mai created a soft smokey eye by mixing Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colours in Sand Glow and Cocoa and applying the colour from the inside of the eyelid, blending it towards the outer lid.
Next, she applied Laura Mercier Illuminating Eye Colour in Fire Glow on the entire lid and blended. On the outer crease, she used Laura Mercier Illuminating Eye Colour in Earth Glow.
After that she lined Reese’s eyes with Laura Mercier Kohl Eye Pencil in Brown Copper – this colour really makes the eyes pop.
Finally, she coated the lashes in Laura Mercier Long Lash Mascara in Black.
We love Reese’s your-lips-but-better lip colour. Mai used Laura Mercier Rouge Nouveau Weightless Lip Colour in Play, topping it with Laura Mercier Lip Glacé in Bellini. This is a great all-day lip gloss that suits most skin tones.

Definitely one of our favourite Golden Globes makeup looks – Sofia Vergara was bombshell from head to high-heeled toe. If you have a tan or olive skin, you’ll want to save celebrity makeup artist Kayleen McAdams’ makeup tips to recreate this look at home – it’s the perfect makeup for summer parties and weddings!
Sofia has amazing skin, so Kayleen simply enhanced her glowing complexion with COVERGIRL truBLEND Foundation in M6.
When the focus is on the lips, you want a natural warmth on the cheeks, which Kayleen achieved using one of our favourite blushes, COVERGIRL Clean Glow Blush in Roses.
Sofia’s sexy cat eye is actually brown, not black, to look more natural against her golden skin. Kayleen used Bombshell Liner in Chocolate Kiss, then Bombshell Shine Shadow in Gold Goddess to give add sparkle to the eyes.
Complete the look with big lashes using Bombshell Volume Mascara.
We’re obsessed with Sofia’s tropical coral-red lip colour. Sofia chose LipPerfection Lip Color in Flame.

Jennifer Lawrence rocked a seductive berry lip and glowing skin at the Golden Globes 2014. Here’s how celebrity makeup artist Ve Neill created the look, with some easy makeup tips for recreating the look at home.
Ve used one of our favourite foundations to create Jennifer’s flawless complexion, Dior Airflash Matte Touch Long-Lasting Airy Powder and Diorskin Nude BB Crème in Fair (#002). The Airflash is a light foundation mist that takes a little getting used to, but it creates an incredible airbrushed finish.
For Jennifer’s glow-from-within blush, Ve used Diorblush Glowing Color Powder Blush in My Rose (#943), a really pretty pink hue.
To play off those dark lips, a subtle smokey eye is all you need – any darker, and the look becomes too harsh. Ve used Dior 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow in Gris-Gris (#034), a beautiful palate of greys, and lined the eyes using Dior Crayon Kohl in Black (#099).
Finally, lashing of Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Mascara in Over Black #090.

Lauren brought out Rosie’s beautiful green eyes by using Avon True Color Eye Shadow Quad in Chocolate Sensation.
She lined Rosie’s eyes using NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner in Chocolate.
A favourite with makeup artists, Lauren filled in the brows with Votre Vu Brow Wax in Blonde.
Finally, she used Avon Mega Effects Mascara in Black on the lashes.
For that your-lips-but-better nude with just a hint of shine, Lauren used Avon Ultra Glazewear in Tickled Pink on the lips – such a pretty natural hue.

We’re in love with celebrity makeup artist Katey Denno‘s bronze goddess makeup for Olivia Munn paired with a sexy golden smokey eye as seen at a recent TV appearance – one of our favourite beauty looks of the last few months. Like us, Katey loves natural and organic makeup, so here are some great green product recommendations.
Katey started by applying La Bella Figura’s Rainforest Hydration Treatment and massaging into Olivia’s face and neck, then waited 20 minutes for it to absorb into the skin.
She then applied Vapour Organic Beauty’s Atmosphere Luminous Foundation Stick with a small foundation brush, setting it with a slightly damp beauty blender sponge.
Katey created that gorgeous luminosity by layering product, starting with RMS beauty (living luminizer) cream highlighter on areas of Olivia’s face that would reflect the most light in front of the paparazzi: the bridge of the nose, cheekbones and cupid’s bow.
To create those naturally glowing cheeks, she mixed two shades of Vapour cream cheek stick color in Torch and Courtesean and swirled them around the apples of her cheeks.
She topped it with one of her favourite products, Dr. Hauschka powder bronzer, sweeping it over her skin with a large, fluffy, super soft powder brush. Katey’s brilliant tip when layering powder over cream is to make sure the cream product has set, so it doesn’t smear and create streaks.
To add definition, she used a small eyeshadow blender brush to blend Mauna Lao, from Alima Pure, a matte brown bronzer, under the cheekbones.
Katey used Kjaer Weis’ eyeshadows in ‘Charmed’ under her eye and over her lid, blending upwards to the brow for softness.
To create the golden smokey eye, she then used the same Dr. Hauschka’s matte bronzer in the crease and outer edge, using a fluffy eyeshadow blending brush.
She finished with lashings of CoverGirl Lash Blast in Very Black and a few individual fake lashes from Ardell.
What do you think of Olivia Munn’s glowing makeup?
We’re loving Rachel Bilson’s cat eye makeup at The To Do List premiere in L.A. today. The 31-year-old actress updated the sexy 1960’s makeup with a thoroughly modern twist, pairing that Brigitte Bardot eye makeup with matte nude lips and glowing cheeks. Here’s how celebrity makeup artist Amy Nadine create the look.
Amy used Tarte SmolderEYES Amazonian Clay Waterproof Eyeliner to create a medium-thick winged cat eye, ending at the same point where Rachel’s eyebrows finish .
She then used the same eyeliner on Rachel’s lower lash line, and smudged it slightly to create a modern smokey eye.
Amy paired Rachel’s sexy eye makeup with matte nude lips, using Tarte LipSurgence Matte Lip Tint in Lucky, the perfect your-lips-but-better shade.

Makeup styles might change, but some looks will always be universally popular. We break down classic makeup styles for ever occasion, from evening makeup to bridal makeup.
The natural look
This makeup style is perfect for women who just want to cover a few blemishes and lightly enhance their natural features. Natural is always beautiful, so why transform the way you look? Simple enhancements for that ‘just you but better’ look include a dab of concealer under the eyes, clear lip gloss, a sweep of rosy blush, or one coat of mascara.
If you’re going out to a bar, club or dinner you’ll likely want to glam yourself up a bit more than you do in the day time. Take the challenge and try a bold and sexy makeup style for nighttime. We love a smokey eye with cherry or deep red lipstick like on Milla Jovovich, or softer eyes paired with a vibrant coral lipstick.
Bridal makeup is often soft and natural to compliment the beauty and sophistication of a bridal gown. Popular bridal looks include soft eye makeup, nude lips and a pop of cheek colour, which looks good on everybody, or a soft smokey eyes with a light rose lipstick. If you’re considering a less traditional look, try a bold lip – it looks amazing in photos!
Anti ageing makeup
You can actually use makeup as an anti ageing tool. There are lots of makeup products on the markets that contain anti ageing ingredients that not only enhance your features but reduce the appearance of wrinkles and create a more balanced skin tone. Look for products like BB and CC creams that hide imperfections, ad radiance and bring out your natural beauty. Our favourite anti ageing beauty tip? Use a lip gloss over your lipstick (or alone) to make your lips like fuller and soften the fine lines around your mouth. And remember less is more with mature skin, so apply makeup with a lighter hand.
Celebrities are always on the cutting edge of makeup styles, and the red carpet is a great source of inspiration for new makeup looks. Look to celebrities with similar skin tones, hair or face shapes.
Glowing, tanned skin
Tanned skin looks good on most people, giving you a natural radiance, but you can always fake an afternoon in the sun by using a tinted moisturiser, bronzer or fake tan products. Finish with a hint of luminiser to get your glow on.
