It’ll be the loneliest time of your life.
Kylie MinogueKylie Minogue, our favourite Aussie songbird, who now calls London home, took away her first Grammy for Best Dance Recording. The track “Come into my world” from her recent Fever album, beat records by pop queens Madonna and Cher. The win makes Kyles the first Aussie to take out a major category at the Grammy’s since the 80’s icon band “Men at Work” were voted best new artist in 1982. Kyles said “I am thrilled and cannot wait to bring it home”. Go Girl!
Beyonce KnowlesEven though it was delayed by at least 5 minutes, (to make sure no one showed too much flesh), the 46th annual Grammy awards were presented Sunday night in Los Angeles. It’s “music’s biggest night” when the America music industry honours its own. The evening’s big winner was 22 year old, Beyonc? Knowles. Nominated in six categories, she took home five Grammys, including Best Contemporary R&B Album and Best Female R&B Performance, on the strength of her debut album, Dangerously in Love. Beyonc? shared two awards with her boyfriend, Jay-Z, for the song “Crazy In Love.” Denying Beyonc? a clean sweep was British rock band Coldplay, who claimed the Record Of The Year Grammy, with Clocks.
Finally someone in television programing has worked out that we are much more interested in the red carpet interviews and live performances rather than the actual presentations. The three-and-a-half-hour worldwide telecast featured 19 live performances but the best news of the night was that although more than 100 awards were given out, only 11 were presented during the broadcast. Yippee finally!
Justin TimberlakeJustin Timberlake obviously still had his recent Super Bowl fiasco with Janet Jackson on his mind, when he accepted the award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for Cry Me A River. “Listen, I know it’s been a rough week on everybody,” he said. “What occurred was unintentional ? completely regrettable, and I apologize if you guys are offended. This has been a dream of mine. This is officially the greatest moment of my life. Thank you!”
