Cory Monteith’s Cause of Death Revealed

Glee star Cory Monteith died of a “mixed drug toxicity” of heroin and alcohol, officials say.

“At this point there is no evidence to suggest Mr. Monteith’s death was anything other than a most-tragic accident,” the BC Coroners Service said in a statement.

“There was evidence in the room that was consistent with a drug overdose,” confirmed police spokesman Constable Brian Montague.

An autopsy and toxicology tests were performed on Monteith, 31, after he was found dead in a Vancouver hotel on Sunday morning.

Monteith had been out with three people the night before, but returned to his hotel room alone in the early hours.

The Canadian-born actor had recently completed a month-long stint in rehab after a lifelong battle with substance abuse.

Meanwhile girlfriend and co-star Lea Michele has been grieving with Monteith’s family.

“Lea is deeply grateful for all the love and support she’s received from family, friends, and fans,” she said in a statement issued today.

“Since Cory’s passing, Lea has been grieving alongside his family and making appropriate arrangements with them.

“They are supporting each other as they endure this profound loss together.”

Glee Star Cory Monteith Dead

Tragic news out of Hollywood: Glee actor Cory Monteith, who played Finn Hudson, has been found dead in a hotel room in Vancouver, Canada, aged 31.

The actor spent Saturday night at the luxury hotel with friends, but was found dead in his room by staff on Sunday morning.

Co-star and girlfriend of two years Lea Michele has asked for privacy. “We ask that everyone kindly respect Lea’s privacy during this devastating time,” her rep said in a statement.

Fellow co-star Jane Lynch spent the day – her 53rd birthday – alone in New York, visibly upset. And another co-star, Matthew Morrison, dedicated a song to Monteith, who he called his “brother”, in his Broadway show 54 Below in New York City, on Sunday.

Glee’s executives producers released a statement: “We are deeply saddened by this tragic news. Cory was an exceptional talent and an even more exceptional person. He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.”

Monteith had battled drug addiction, completing a month-long rehab treatment in April, with Michele standing by him.

“I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this,” she said at the time.

Following treatment, Monteith tweeted: “Sending out big love to everyone. thank you for the continued support! It means the world to me! :)”

On the same day Michele wrote: “Today is a great day 🙂 Love you all! Xo.”

The couple then celebrated with a romantic holiday in Mexico together.

An autopsy will be performed on Monday.
