Raw Food Recipes To Replace Silly Season Sausage Rolls

It ‘tis the season of overindulgence, but if we throw some raw food recipes into the Christmas catering mix, we may well save ourselves (and our thighs) the horror of hiding on the beach in a muumuu.

Avocado, Olive and Lime Dip

Makes about 750ml

raw food, Raw Blend, clean eating


Vitamix or equivalent blender


2 small avocados (or 1 large)

350g Sicilian olives (pitted)

1 clove garlic (without skin)

1/3 cup macadamia nuts

2 limes (juice only)

small slice chilli

2tbsp olive oil (or oil of choice)

Himalayan salt and pepper (to taste)


Put all the ingredients into blender. Increase the speed to medium. Blend for 30-45 seconds or until desired consistency is reached. Serve. Follow along with Tommy via

Chocolate, Rosemary and Sea Salt Fondue

Makes 2 cups

Serves 4-12

Vitamix or equivalent blender


125ml spring water

1 cup raw cashews

180g dark chocolate

3-5 sprigs rosemary (without stem)

Pinch of rock salt


Put all the ingredients into blender (if not using a Vitamix, melt chocolate before adding to blender). Quickly increase the speed to high. Use tamper (if you have one) to really press the ingredients into the blades for 2.5 to three mins or until steaming hot. Serve.

Nut-Free Protein Bites

Makes 15–20

Vitamix or equivalent blender


2 cups raw sunflower seeds

2 tbsp carob powder

Pinch Himalayan Sea Salt

1 cupmedjool dates, pitted and soaked

3 tbsp oil (coconut oil or olive oil)

2 tbsp maple syrup or coconut nectar

3 tsp Lariese Hemp Protein Powder

Shredded coconut for rolling


Measure out your dates and soak them for about five hours until nice and soft. Place all the ingredients in the order listed above into your blender. Turn your machine to variable speed and pulse on and off three times for about three seconds each time. Turn your machine to high speed and mix the ingredients in a dough mixture. Use your tamper effectively as this is a thick mixture. Turn your machine off and roll the bites into preferred size and then roll in coconut. Set in the fridge for about an hour or eat straight away!

Sweet Summer Pops

Vitamix or equivalent blender


Watermelon Layer

2 cups watermelon

1 cup strawberries

1 cup coconut milk

2 tsp maple syrup

Makes 3 cups of liquid

Cucumber Layer

2 cups cucumber, peeled

1 cup coconut water

6 mint leaves

3 tsp maple syrup

Makes 2 cups of liquid


Blend watermelon layer ingredients together. Pour mixture into ice block moulds to half fill them up. Set in freezer. Blend cucumber layer ingredients together. Fill the other half of your ice-block moulds with the mixture and place back into freezer until completely set. Serve icy cold on a hot summer’s day and enjoy!

Raw Choc-Cherry

1 cup coconut oil (melted)

1/4 cup coconut nectar

4 tbsp cacao powder

A handful shredded coconut

A large handful frozen cherries

A large handful raw pistachio nuts


  1. Mix the coconut oil, coconut syrup, cacao powder and shredded coconut in a bowl until smooth.
  2. Line a small glass baking tray with some baking paper and evenly distribute the cherries and pistachio nuts on the bottom.
  3. Pour the chocolate all over cherries and pistachio nuts and then pop in the freezer for about an hour to set.

Keep in the freezer in between serves.

Apple Varieties – The Full Story

Did you know that there are over 10,000 varieties of apples growing around the world? They are now in season, so don’t pass up the chance to learn what all the varieties are. Of course we can’t let you know all the different types here today but we have listed some of our Shesaid favourites.One green grocer did give me a very important tip. Don’t wash apples until you are just about to eat or cook them. If you are going to use them in a salad, toss with fresh lemon juice to keep them from turning brown. They are also a great source of Vitamin A, Vitamin C and potassium. One apple is only .5 grams of fat. So isn’t it time to grab an apple over a packet of chips?
