Get The Look: 1920s Waves Like Christina Hendricks’ Emmys Hair

Need wedding hair inspiration whether you’re the bride or a guest? We think these flapper-inspired, 1920s waves, like Christina Hendricks showed off at last month’s Emmys, are the perfect elegant hairstyle for medium to long hair. Simply pair with a feminine dress, antique jewellery and a vampish red lip.

We asked celebrity hairstylist Dario Cotroneo to share his how-to to recreate this gorgeous hairstyle in just 4 easy steps.

1. Section a side part from the hairline to the crown area. Then section hair at the back of head into three even sections.

2. Begin each section in the back area by backcombing the roots and spray with Thermal Image from Wella. Place the hair under the MYCURL and roll up horizontally. Starting from the mid lengths area, secure the first strap then continue rolling the MYCURL to the roots and secure the second strap. Then clamp the irons over the MYCURL for 15seconds. Repeat for the other two back sections.

3. Divide the front sections into two sections on both side of the face, roll in two Large MYCURLs on both side sections away from the face without the backcombing, spray with Thermal Image from Wella and roll a Large MYCURL into the hair horizontally from the mid lengths and secure with straps around the cheekbone area. Then clamp irons over the MYCURL for 15 seconds. Allow hair to cool down for 20 minutes.

4. After hair has cooled, remove all MYCURLs and lightly brush hair forward from the mid-lengths to ends in order to separate the curls, and then spray some shine spray for a glossy finish. To keep your style looking polished and groomed, around the face and on the top layer, spray hairspray onto a makeup brush and brush around the parting and around the face.

Get The Look: Rose Byrne’s Rosy Emmys Makeup

Rose Byrne is always one of our favourite celebrities on the red carpet, and that was no different at yesterday’s Emmys 2013, looking pretty-in-pink in Calvin Klein paired perfectly with rosy makeup (and as a side note, how sweet was boyfriend Bobby Cannavale thanking “the love of my life, Rose” during his acceptance speech for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Boardwalk Empire!).

Here’s how CHANEL celebrity makeup artist Kate Lee created the look.

Skin

Kate started by prepping Rose’s skin with CHANEL Hydra Beauty Essence Mist, followed quickly with CHANEL Hydra Beauty Gel Yeux. Next, she used a small amount of CHANEL Le Lift Creme Fine to give a beautiful, velvety, firm texture to her complexion.

Kate says Rose is blessed with beautiful, even-toned skin, so she only need a light dusting of CHANEL Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour SPF 15 No. 30 to diffuse the light and give a velvet matte finish. Kate’s tip: apply with a large brush then use a damp beauty blender sponge to melt it into the skin for perfect coverage.

Eyes

Kate started by defining the eye socket with the darkest shade in the CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Eclosion. She then blended the peach shade above the socket to melt the socket away. The lash line was defined by wetting the matte brown shadow and blending out.

She finished with a coat of CHANEL Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Noir, then added few extra Ardell lashes.

Cheeks

Kate used Le Blush Creme de Chanel in Presage to add an apricot hue to the apples of Rose’s cheeks.

Lips

Kate use CHANEL Rouge Coco Hydrating Creme Lip Colour in Byzantin, a deep rose.

Get The Look: Kerry Washington’s Pretty Emmys Makeup

Kerry Washington is one of our best dressed celebrities at the Emmys in her spectacular Marchesa princess gown, but her makeup was also a standout, with soft, smokey eyes and nude lips. Celebrity makeup artist Carola Gonzalez created this perfect makeup look and shares the exact products she used. “The inspiration came from the delicate dress,” Carola said. “Although I like a matte finish, especially for awards shows, I added a radiance to her skin with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light. It’s the perfect shade for Kerry.”

Skin

Prime the skin with Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer, and follow withHourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation in Warm Beige. “I’m really impressed with the airbrushed finish this foundation creates,” says Carola. “And I really don’t need to use powder anymore.” Conceal any imperfections with Clé de Peau Beauté Concealer in Honey.

Eyes

Apply the mauve shimmer shade from Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Exhibition to the inner corner of the eyes and the lids, and the eggplant shimmer shade to the outer edge of the eye and beneath the bottom lash line. Blend the two shades together. Apply Ardell Natural Lashes in 110, line the eyes with Hourglass Script Precision Liner in Jett, and finish off with three coats of Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara.

Define the brows with Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Dark Brunette.

Cheeks

Apply Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light on the cheekbones, forehead, nose and chin. Apply Lancôme Blush Subtil in Sparkling Rose to the apples of the cheeks and sweep towards the temples.

Lips

Prep lips with Hourglass No. 28 Lip Treatment Oil for superior hydration. Apply Hourglass Extreme Sheen Lip Gloss in Truth, a beige rose, for the finishing touch.
