Can Eating Certain Foods Determine A Baby’s Sex?

Ever heard the old wives tale that if you eat lots of bananas while you’re trying to conceive you’re more likely to have a boy? It’s just one of many theories about eating certain foods to help determine the sex of a baby, but are they true and do they work?

One of the most popular theories by researchers is that women who include foods with a low PH level in their diet are more likely to conceive a boy, whereas those who include foods with a high PH level are more likely to have a girl.  This theory is based on the fact that male sperm are more fragile than the female sperm so if the vaginal tract is too acidic then the male sperm may not survive.

So, based on this theory, if you want to try and conceive a boy then consider eating more of these foods that have a low PH level:

  • Fruits including ripe bananas, coconut and avocadoes
  • Soy beans, white beans, lima beans and lentils
  • Vegetables including kale, spinach and broccoli
  • Quinoa, brown rice and chia
  • Tofu

And if you’re wanting to conceive a girl then try eating more of these foods that have a high PH level:

  • Dairy foods including yoghurt, cheese, sour cream and eggs
  • Breads including tortillas, white bread and sourdough bread
  • Tea and coffee
  • Fruits including pineapple, raspberry and pomegranate
  • Red meats, tuna and chicken

Although there have been a number of studies undertaken, unfortunately nothing concrete has ever been found.  Yes, there have been associations made, but there are absolutely no guarantees that if you eat a certain food you will be blessed with a particular sex.  But, if you believe in the old wives tales and are desperately wanting a certain gender, then why not give it a go?  You never know, you might just get what you want.
