With the news that Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck have split (sob), it made us reminisce about all of the celeb couples that have shattered our hopes for forever upon calling it quits. Call us naive, but for some reason we find ourselves invested in Tinseltown romances as if our own, particularly when it’s a love story that unfolds on screen like that of The Notebook. Gush!
So, from rumours of infidelity, to infertility and “unconcious uncoupling,” let’s take a look at some of the hottest and most powerful Hollywood couples that have headed to splitsville over the years.
Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow
What started as a whirlwind romance that resulted in marriage barely one year of meeting each other, Chris and Gwyn last year called it quits on their ten year union, announcing in March that they were “unconsciously uncoupling.” What even!?
Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams
“If you’re a bird, than I’m bird.” Meeting on the set of The Notebook, true love seemed to blossom off-set as much as it did on; but despite an intense and somewhat envious relationship, the fire seemed to die somewhere along the lines. Both have since moved on, with Gosling recently welcoming a baby girl with girlfriend, Eva Mendes.
Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman
This was a separation that shocked not only us, but apparently Nicole as well. Meeting in ’89 on the set of Days of Thunder, the couple tied the knot in December, 1990. After divorcing in 2001 amidst reports of infertility, Kidman was still picking up the pieces years later. “He was huge; still is. To me, he was just Tom, but to everybody else, he is huge. But he was lovely to me. And I loved him. I still love him,” she said in 2006.
Seal and Heidi Klum
In the limelight, this couple looked like they had it all: happiness, wealth and a strong marriage – often renewing their wedding vows every year. Upon divorcing nearly two year ago (after seven years of marriage), however, reports of anger management and infidelity surfaced. Cue, relationship goals crushed.
Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt
A seemingly unlikely union at first, Jen and Brad went on to be Hollywood’s golden couple from 1998 to 2005. Saying “I do” in 2005, they divorced 5 years later after Pitt reportedly cheated with Angelina Jolie. Describing it as a “painful” experience, Aniston finally found love again with Justin Theroux.
Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe
Interestingly, these lovebirds were introduced before shooting the hit movie Cruel Intentions, reportedly meeting on Reese’s twenty-first birthday when Ryan proclaimed himself as her birthday present – swoon! They went on to marry in 1999 and have two kids, before divorcing amidst cheating rumours in 2008.

Would you trust an A-list celebrity who recently confessed her love of “steam cleaning” her vagina with your beauty regime? This is the question discerning women the world over must surely be asking themselves following the news Gwyneth Paltrow is reportedly launching skincare and beauty ranges via her popular lifestyle website GOOP.
Of course, Gwyneth is also a fan of using goop.com to extol the new-age benefits of other such important life matters such as “consciously uncoupling” ala her split with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin; ridiculously overpriced, but gorgeous luxury clothes; month-long juice cleanses and macrobiotic diets.
However, the health obsessive did come under fire for her health advice that if women steam out their vaginas they’ll achieve a powerful energy boost and internal cleanse. This is somewhat amusing given our vaginas self-cleanse, but I digress. Gwynnie advised her legion of fans to run, not walk, to get the special herbal steam-treatment service available at the Tikkun Holistic Spa in Santa Monica.
“The real golden ticket here is the Mugwort V-Steam,” Gwynnie enthused. “You sit on what is essentially a mini-throne, and a combination of infrared and mugwort steam cleanses your uterus, et al.”
She added that the V-Steam is “an energetic release – not just a steam douche – that balances female hormone levels. If you’re in LA, you have to do it.”
Slammed for this potentially dangerous, sham health advice by multiple medical experts, Gwyneth was undeterred and continued to do what she does best, look amazingly radiant at red-carpet premieres, such as Mortdecai, with new Gold Coast regular, Johnny Depp, who has been in and out of the “sunshine state” of late shooting the new Pirates of the Caribbean film.
So, how does the gorgeous celebrity seemingly never age? Is there really something to her diet claims? And here are some more burning questions for Gwynnie – if she’s reading this –about her new organic and sustainable skincare and beauty ranges set to launch next January: Can we mere mortals afford it, or will it cost the equivalent of a monthly Sydney mortgage? And, will it be for women of all ages and skin types? And will we too, then attain the Fountain of Youth?
GOOP will apparently cut out the middle man and handle all retail aspects in-house. Stay tuned for more as it comes to hand, dear readers!
What do A-list powerbrokers Gwyneth Paltrow, Demi Moore, Oprah and Linda Evangelista have in common?
They’re all very beautiful women with gorgeous, glowing skin who are said to be devoted fans of Thermage; a new non-invasive, radiofrequency procedure that allegedly smoothes, tightens and contours the skin for a noticeably younger look.
Dubbed “the lunchtime facelift” by Oprah, Thermage is much loved by celebrities because there’s no recovery time and the anti-aging procedure can be used to tighten skin on the eyes, face, neck, arms, stomach, thighs, knees and more. Gwyneth Paltrow (pictured) even reportedly recently told Harper’s Bazaar that while painful, Thermage took five years off her face.
But here’s the catch ladies, the “the lunchtime facelift” sure ain’t cheap; costs vary, depending on the actual size of the area to be treated – as well as the individual clinic performing the treatment – but it will generally set you back from $1500-$3000.
Ouch. An A-lister’s salary would certainly help with this latest non-surgical, anti-aging procedure! So, is “the lunchtime facelift” actually worth the hefty cost? Kaye Scott, Co-Founder of The Clinic, Bondi Junction, says a resounding “yes.” The former registered general and psychiatric nurse, who went on to recognise a niche market for laser treatments, says women adore the treatment and many come back for more.
“As you age, the collagen in your skin breaks down, resulting in wrinkles and sagging skin. Thermage uses radiofrequency to safely heat the deep layers of the skin, stimulating your own collagen and promoting new collagen,” Ms Scott says.
“There have been several clinical studies and trials to prove Thermage does work. From our own personal experience, we have had the same clients who repeat the same procedure on an annual basis.”
A word of warning, ladies: Thermage, like all non-invasive procedures, is not without dangers. Risks associated with “the lunchtime facelift” include overheating of the skin, which can cause a breakdown in tissue, and it can be painful. It’s vital you talk to your Thermage practitioner about what to expect before you schedule a procedure.
However, Ms Scott says Thermage is so safe, she’s not seen a single side-effect in the more than five years in which her clinic has been practising the procedure. What’s more, Thermage is suited to all skin types, but would most benefit women aged 35-65, she says.
Since 2002, more than one million procedures have been performed on people with varying skin types and ages. In addition, about 2200 dermatologists, plastic surgeons and cosmetic physicians use Thermage worldwide.
What do you think? Would you pay that much for “the lunchtime facelift” if it took years off your face?

Inspired by Farrah Fawcett, celebrity makeup artist and Max Factor’s Global Creative Design Director Pat McGrath has transformed Gwyneth Paltrow into a 1970s disco queen to celebrate the beauty brand’s 100th birthday. Here’s how to get Gwyneth’s glam makeup:
For a fresh skin-finish that is smooth and matte but with a subtle radiance, apply Whipped Crème Foundation applying with either a brush or a sponge for a perfect demi-matte finish. The new whipped formula is the perfect balance between matte and radiant, and gives a full and even coverage for a smooth skin look reminiscent of the 1970s era.
The 70s Studio 64-inspired beauty look is all about the cheeks! Start by dusting Flawless Perfection Blush in Mulberry across the cheekbones using circular brush motions. For the added intensity, switch to Classic Pink, sweeping from the apples up to the temples for that dazzling disco look.
In contrast to the cheeks, create a coppery colour explosion on the eyes for added drama. Start with Wild Shadow Pot in Feral Brown applied to the center lids, then continue by blending into Savage Rose at the inner corners, and end by sweeping strokes of Auburn Envy at the outer areas.
For extra glamour, really emphasise eyes using Colour X-pert Eyeliner in Black. Draw widening lines along both the upper and lower lid rims, tapering towards the outer corners for spellbinding intensity and drama.
Build up two or three layers of False Lase Effect Mascara in Black for lashes that are volumised to the max with intense length.
Follow the theme of beautiful vibrant warm tones by finishing with Colour Elixir Giant Pen Stick in Hot Chocolate. Use the pencil first to line the lips using the tapered end, then angle to fill with saturated colour.

Growing out short hair and feeling less than inspired? You’re in luck, because these five celebrity hairstyles should convince you that a medium-lentgth hairstyle is just as chic as a bob or long hair. A style that isn’t too long or too short will frame your face, and has plenty of versatility with how you style it.
Jessica Alba’s ombre waves
One of the hottest celebrity hairstyles, Jessica Alba’s ombre waves is a great example how to style thick, naturally wavy hair. Jessica’s hair falls just below the shoulders, and you can create similar waves at home using a clamp less curling iron. But this hairstyle, which is ideal for oval-shaped faces, looks equally great straight.
Amy Poehler’s wavy bob
Funny woman Amy Poehler’s bob falls just at her shoulders, with a wispy fringe, swooped to the side, that frame her forehead and allow her to wear her hair up or down. To get Amy’s slight wave, cut layers to create movement and use a large-barrel curling iron. This medium-length hairstyle is especially flattering on heart-shaped and round faces.
Gwnenyth Paltrow’s long straight layers
Gwyneth Paltrow let her blunt bob grow out into a medium-length hairstyle with long layers that are especially defined at the ends. The super straight finish is perfect for a really strong, polished look. Use a straightening balm before straightening the hair, and finish with a light hold hairspray to tame flyaways. Try tucking one side of the hair behind the hair to show off fabulous earrings when going out.
Rachel McAdams’ loose curls
Rachel McAdams has gone from blonde to brunette to red, but always comes back to medium-length hair, which shows off her flawless skin and sparking eyes. Not ready to go all-out red like Rachel? Try auburn highlights, then have your stylist cut shapely layers which become more defined when curled in a loose spiral pattern with a medium-barrel curling iron or flat iron. It’s the perfect hairstyle for anyone with an oval face.
Katy Perry’s Old Hollywood curls
Katy Perry is the queen of transformation, so one day she might be wearing a platinum blonde wig, and another day, a retro updo. But one look she keeps coming back to medium-length hair that falls just below the shoulders. The Old Hollywood curls is a classic style that takes from you from day to night. Start by parting the hair to the side, and use large rollers to curl the ends of the hair. Try an intense hair colour like Katy’s rich chocolate brown to make the hairstyle stand out even more.
Which celebrity has your favourite medium-length hair?
You don’t have to be a Hollywood starlet to stay fabulous while raising kids. While hot celebrity mums like Jessica Alba and Gwyneth Paltrow might have an entire staff of people and at their disposal, they still follow some pretty basic tricks that you can use as well. Here’s how you can remain gorgeous and feminine while raising kids at the same time.
Take time to pamper
Busy mum Gwyneth Paltrow knows the importance of taking time to pamper yourself, even if you’re juggling work and family. In a recent Goop newsletter, she spills about her favourite DIY spa treatments, which include an oatmeal and honey body scrub and a simple Epsom salt bath. Even if you can’t steal a full 45 minutes away from parenting to take a bath, try taking a quick 10 minute break to apply your favourite body butter or file and buff your nails. It will boost your confidence and reduce your stress level at the same time.
We know it’s seemingly impossible to stay on top of everything when you’re managing children, a partner and a job. But the more organised you are, the less stress you’ll experience, and stress is the fastest way to take your look from fabulous to frumpy. “[It’s] about putting your kid on a schedule instead of letting them run you,” Jessica Alba told Well+Good NYC. “When you put the kids to bed at seven, you get to be a woman with your husband, or go have dinner, or whatever.”
Don’t obsess over the little things
Gwyneth and Jessica might always look flawless, but for every “perfect” celebrity mum, there are one or two who aren’t afraid to admit that motherhood can be a little difficult sometimes. Pop star mums Mariah Carey and Britney Spears have both admitted to feeling a little frazzled while trying to balance bringing up kids and managing their careers. Instead of freaking out about minor mishaps, learn to roll with the punches. Inner peace is definitely the first step to feeling fabulous.

Gwyneth Paltrow shares her slim body secrets, healthy eating ideas and detox tips with the Telegraph in the UK.
Make exercise a habit
Keep up consistent exercise. I am dedicated to the Tracy Anderson Method and it has completely changed my body. Still, when I first started working with Tracy, finding motivation was hard. She advised me to think of exercise as an automatic routine, no different from brushing your teeth, to avoid getting distracted. Now it is part of my life – I exercise Monday to Friday at 10am and always stick with it. I’d also recommend concentrating on moving more – we sit for so much of the day. Choose to walk or take the stairs, or briskly climb a hill in the evenings. It creates good muscle tone and boosts your metabolism.
Schedule in a detox
A detox is a great place to start before a diet. My doctor, Alejandro Junger, recommends a detox once a year to rid organs of processed food and environmental toxins. His theory is that the gut (your system of digestive organs) is the root of good health. It contains about 80 per cent of your body’s serotonin – which regulates appetite – so you’re more likely to lose weight when it’s working properly. This year I chose the Elimination Diet, which meant no additives or processed foods for three weeks. I’ve done juice cleanses in the past, and in my twenties I did the Master Cleanse, which left me hallucinating after 10 days. Be aware: a juice detox can crash your metabolism and lead to future weight gain.
Keep food at your fingertips
It is easy to get distracted by junk food when you are hungry, so keep healthy snacks to hand. On a Sunday prepare a batch of salad dressings (I make my ‘Mexican green goddess’ dressing – goat’s yogurt, jalapeño, coriander and honey – or a carrot and ginger one) and store them in the fridge for the rest of the week. They make a quick and easy go-to for dipping vegetables or for drizzling over chicken. Also, keep your cupboards well stocked with fresh basics to stay inspired to eat healthily. I love cooking and always have sweet potatoes, shallots and various lettuces in my larder and keep garden-cut herbs wrapped in a moist kitchen towel in the fridge.
Measure in inches
There is something punitive about weighing yourself. It can leave you vulnerable to shame and guilt, and it messes with you psychologically. Women naturally gain and lose weight during their monthly cycle anyway, so it can be more realistic to monitor your body shape with a measuring tape.
Believe in balance
Stay away from processed foods, though cutting them out completely is no fun and can ultimately lead to a binge. Allow yourself programmed treats – I often have a glass of red wine in the evening and smoke a cigarette on a Saturday. I love those moments because they are just the right amount of naughty. That balance keeps you vibrant. You have to live your life, after all.
Try a beauty trick
One of the best cheat products I have found for the body is a tinted moisturiser called Prtty Peaushun. It is shimmery, which gives the illusion of contour; you can see muscle definition. It is great for legs too, and leaves skin looking really hydrated. I wore it on my stomach when I was filming Iron Man 3.
What do you think of Gwyneth Paltrow’s body secrets?
The Apple of Gwynnie’s eye
The mother of Apple Gwyneth Paltrow gave birth to her first child on Friday 14th May. Daughter Apple Blythe Alison Martin was born in London, reportedly after a long labor. Husband Chris Martin from the band Coldplay has officially said ?We are 900 miles over the moon, and we’d like to thank everyone at the hospital who have looked after us amazingly”. The question on everyone?s lips however, is how did they come up with the name Apple? Some say it?s a tribute to the Beatles from British rocker Chris. It?s also been heard that Apple is the name of Gwyneth?s grandmother. Or is she named after her place of conception ? New York. Other crazier suggestions include Gwyneth’s love for her computer, she ate a lot of apples during her pregnancy and her passion for healthy food. Hmmm? what next? Soy, Celery and Lettuce?
Blushing bride KateBeckinsale’s double win
If you thought gorgeous Kate Beckinsale had good reason to smile this past weekend you would be right! Not only did the English star?s new monster movie, Van Helsing, slay them at the box office over the weekend but the British beauty tied the knot with her beau, Underworld director Len Wiseman. Beckinsale?s publicist confirmed that the pair were married at the Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles in front of a small gathering of family and friends, including Underworld costar Scott Speedman. The bride looked radiant in Vera Wang and a smile, but things weren?t always so rosy. Beckinsale and Wiseman met on the set of the 2003 sci-fi fantasy flick Underworld, and announced their engagement last June. This raised some eyebrows in Hollywood as it was only just two months after Beckinsale’s official breakup with longtime lover Michael Sheen. Their seven-year union produced a daughter, five-year-old Lily, however the duo never married. But Kate and Len won?t be honeymooning for long. Pre-production has begun on an Underworld sequel and Beckinsale was recently tapped as the front person for a new series of Diet Coke ads coming soon to your TV screen.
Dad’s practising to be a dadBrad Pitt wants a mini-Jen
Brad Pitt has said when he and Jennifer Aniston have children he wants a baby girl that will look exactly like his wife. In an interview with Austrian newspaper Kronenzeitung, Brad said he and Jennifer were in the early but active stages of planning a family. “Jen and I are in the negotiation phase,” said Pitt. “We’re still practicing. But everything’s going well and I’m looking forward to the future. “When asked whether he would prefer a baby boy or girl, Brad said: “There’s no question about it – I love girls. I want little versions of Jennifer. That’s my dream.” Pitt added that he expected fatherhood to bring him life fulfillment: “I’ve reached a point in my life when I feel ready for this role. “The thought of bringing a small person into the world for whom you’re responsible sounds like fulfillment to me.” Surprisingly, Brad says he is well aware of his sell-by-date as a Hollywood hunk ?I’ve only got about four good years left,” said Pitt. “The next generation of actors is already getting ready to replace the old stars.” He can stay around as long he likes according to us!
More content than ever, DeppJohnny Depp wants 100 children
Johnny Depp says he’d have 100 children with Vanessa Paradis if she’d let him. He told OK! magazine: “You can’t plan the kind of deep love that results in children. ?Fatherhood was not a conscious decision but now I have become the perfect example of all the paternity cliches I laughed at for years. ?I look forward to having more children. ?I’d have a hundred if Vanessa were willing. “For me family is the most important thing in the world. It’s your foundation, your roots. It’s the only unconditional love you’ll ever get.” Depp adds that his happy family life helped him enjoy the making of Pirates of the Caribbean. He said: “I really had a ball every single day – it was just a gas! It’s probably the most centred and content I’ve been. “It actually started a little bit before that point because everything comes from home. I have a great relationship, my girl was three and a half and my little boy was just in the throes of the caveman period!”
Home birth for Gwynnie
Mum-to-be Gwyneth PaltrowRumour has it, mum-to-be Gwyneth Paltrow has installed a birthing pool at her home in London. Reports out of the UK reveal that the Oscar-winning actress, is planning to have her baby at home rather than in a hospital and is determined that her new arrival will be a water-baby. In recent months, Gwyenth was spotted checking out the facilities at two hospital renowned for alternative approaches to deliver. St John Hospital and St Elizabeth Hospital are both favoured by other celebrity mums-to-be including Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet. But with the installation of her new water feature, we can assume that Gwynnie is opting for a birth in the comfort of her own home. No news as to what new husband Coldplay frontman Chris Martin thinks of all this…
Sarah Jessica Parker – the write stuffSarah Jessica Parker: Author
What’s next for stylish actor Sarah Jessica Parker after Sex And The City? Would you believe, writing? The 38-year-old has apparently got a novel waiting in the wings. “I’ve written about half of it already and I’m looking for a publisher who will take it. The basic story is about an over-the-hill TV actress who gets a shot at a comeback, but lies about everything from her age to her acting credentials. Then, one by one, they all come out.” And sexy Sarah has even bigger plans, she adds, “I would like to write full-time, but who knows what the future holds? It would be fun to turn this book into a movie, too.” Perhaps her onscreen career as journalist Carrie Bradshaw has given her the inspiration to pick up the pen?
Where for art thou ViggoMore Viggo for your viewing pleasure
If you drooled over Viggo Mortensen in the Lord of the Rings trilogy then his new movie Hildago will be a must see for you. At the LA premiere of the film, the super spunky star proved that he can indeed ride a horse, when he braved lashing rain to make a dramatic entrance on horseback at the launch. There were a crowd of fans (not surprisingly mostly women) who had gathered to catch a glimpse of their hero were stunned when he arrived atop his mighty steed. “He was nice enough to invite me tonight,” said Viggo of his equine co-star. “I’m his date for the evening.” If the story line, rather than ogling at Viggo interests you, we can tell you the film is about a cowboy (played by Viggo) who journeys to the Middle East to compete in a dangerous race. He is accompanied, of course, by his horse Hidalgo, who is the underdog in a race dominated by powerful Arabian horses. Incidentally, Viggo was so enamoured with TJ, the horse he rode during the film, that he bought it as soon as filming had finished and had it shipped home! Gorgeous, talented and a sensitive and sentimental lover of animals. Swoon!

Zellweger: the butt of fat obsessed media
Renee Zellweger is sick and tired of all attention she has been receiving since packing on the pounds in preparation for the reprise of her role as everybody’s favourite singleton, Bridget Jones. The festively plump Ms Zellweger doesn’t see what all the fuss is about. She’s done the yo-yo weight thing before, porking up a treat for Bridget Jones’s Diary in 2001, then successfully slimmed back down for last year’s Chicago. This year, she’s plumped up again for Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, which is due out next year. “The first time I did it, I learned a lot. I realised the influence of living in a society that focuses so much on physicality has affected me,” Zellweger told Vogue magazine for its December issue. “When the film was coming out, the question I was asked the most was regarding my weight. And again it’s happening. I was followed around Heathrow (airport) by a guy who wanted to take a picture of my backside. I don’t understand the obsession.”
Gwynnie’s up the duff?
In recent days, it was revealed that Gwyneth Paltrow is expecting her first child to boyfriend Chris Martin of Coldplay. And news just to hand, New York Daily News has confirmed that Paltrow and Marin tied the knot last Friday in a secret ceremony in California. The wedding, far from all the anticipated three-ringed antics a wedding of such high profile people would usually created, was reportedly a very small, private ceremony in held in a hotel suite. The newlyweds have apparently jetted off to sunny Mexico for their honeymoon, successfully keeping the biggest day of their lives from the prying eyes of the paparazzi!
Twins for Geena Davis?
Oscar-winning actress Geena Davis, 47 is pregnant with twins, her publicist Samantha Mast announced. The actress and her surgeon-husband, Dr. Reza Jarrahy, 33, already have a daughter, Alizeh, who was born last April. Davis is said to be in good health and happily looking forward to the twins’ birth around In April 2004. The actress has spent the last year and a half “concentrating on being a mom,” but is scheduled for a guest appearance on Will & Grace shortly, Mast said. Good news for all those women whose biological clock is ticking so loudly they can?t think straight! Davis didn’t even have her first child till she was 45 and now twins at 47! Go Girl!?
