Nail Polish Shades For The Fall

Whether you love to paint your own nails at home, or prefer to have them handled by the professionals, it’s important to understand which colours are in this season. Pack away all those corals, glitters and neon shades in favour of a mature colour palette which will suit all skin tones. We’ve also added a fun little instructional video at the end, just to give you some extra tips for that at-home mani-pedi.

Wine

The colour, not the drink! A deep red is perfect all year-round, although it’s most prominent during the colder seasons. Just one coat is enough to give you great coverage, but if you apply another and add a top coat soon afterwards, your nails will shine.

Option 2: Zoya Nail Polish in Pepper, $9

Dark green

If you’re too scared to make the transition to a darker shade, dry a deep emerald green instead. It will still give your nails a subtle pop of colour without being too inappropriate for all events.

Option 2: ModelCo Nail Polish in Envy, $15

Plum

A beautiful shade of plum is also in the same category as green, it looks darker during the night and picks up more light during the day. Have fun with this shade and pair it with fun nail art to give your look a bit of extra character.

Option 2: Nars Iconic Colour Nail Polish in Endless Night, $30

Nude

Pass on that traditional French manicure and give your nails a splash of colour with a nude shade. Not only is it appropriate for the office, but it’s discreet if the colour starts to chip after one week of wear.

Option 2: ModelCo Nail Polish in Nude Attitude, $15

Violet

Some might say this is similar to purple, but we love these colours so much that we couldn’t leave it out! This is a perfect option if you want a pop of colour with just one coat. Apply a glossy or matte top coat before leaving the house for extra drama.

How To Naturally Lighten Your Hair

Ever wanted to lighten your hair without using harmful chemicals which can damage your hair and scalp?

There are actually a number of ways to naturally lighten your hair which are safe to use for all different ages. Try some of our suggestions this summer without using ammonia or peroxide on your hair.

RELATED: Tips and Tricks For Thinning Hair

Lemon

Lemon juice has been used for many years to bring out the natural highlights in blonde and brown hair. Apply it directly with your fingers, then use a comb to distribute the juice on your ends. Let it soak for 20 minutes, then wash with lukewarm water and mild shampoo.

Chamomile

Ever since I was a kid, my mum would fill a bowl with lukewarm water and drop 3-5 chamomile bags into the mixture. All you need to do is dunk your ends into the water, then wrap hair into a towel. Let it sit from 30 minutes, or air-dry naturally in the sun.

Honey

Treat your hair to a honey mask which will keep it soft and smooth, but will also lighten up your ends. Ideal for men and women with light brown hair since it will make it look shiny and clean.

Apple Cider Vinegar

The no-poo method (washing the hair without shampoo) has actually proven to lighten hair over time. Cleanse your hair and scalp with a mild apple cider vinegar solution which will give your hair natural highlights!

Baking Soda

Who knew? Apply 2-3 tablespoons of baking soda onto your scalp which will help to keep your colour lasting for longer. This is also a great idea for men and women who want to keep their salon colour from fading fast.

Do’s and Dont’s For Cutting Hair At Home

Whether you simply want to give your hair a bit of a trim, or even cut yourself some new bangs, there’s nothing wrong about cutting your own hair at home.

Although we don’t recommend our guide below for any drastic makeovers, read through some of our great tips to get rid of any stray hairs.

RELATED: Tips and Tricks For Thinning Hair

DO: Use sharp scissors

Use special hair scissors which are available at all drugstores in your city. They are super-sharp and won’t leave your hair blunt or damaged.

DON’T: Cut wet hair

If you’re planning shorten those layers in your fringe or length of your hair, make sure to work on dry hair. This way, it’s easier to see if you’ve made any mistakes rather than waiting until your hair dries.

DO: Divide hair into small pieces

Take it easy and cut your hair in small pieces, rather than putting your hair into a ponytail and going all Edward Scissorhands into your longer strands.

DON’T: Cut hair without doing your research

There are so many video tutorials on YouTube which show you step-by-step ways to cut hair at home. All you need to do is find one which is suited to the type and texture of your hair.

DO: Use a mirror

That is, at the back of your head. This way, you can easily see if your hair needs straightening or if it looks nice and even.

DON’T: Cut your hair before a big event

Or colour it yourself if you have an event just around the corner such as a wedding or formal. If something does go wrong, you can always slick it back into a ponytail, or put it up into a bun.

DO: Remember, it grows back

If you have made a mistake on your hair (we’ve all done it), remember that it does grow back. You can always go to the hairdresser and they can fix the problem in the meantime – just use this as a lesson!

What are some of your DIY hair blunders? Let us know in the comments.

5 Ways To Style An Ear Cuff

Spice up your accessories by investing in a trendy ear cuff for 2015. These are fantastic pieces of jewellery which come in many shapes and sizes, and don’t require you to have pierced ears to wear them.

We show you just a few different ways to style your ear cuff for any type of occasion.

RELATED: Australian Designers – Sarah and Sebastian

Side braid

A simple side braid is the best way to show off your ear cuff without going over the top. Start as close to the roots as you can, and pin back the braid behind your ear. The rest of your hair will look bouncy and voluminous, so it’s best to part your hair at an angle.

Wear this look like Cara, and accessorise with some other minimal jewellery such as a stud earring or tiered necklace.

5 Ways To Style A Ear Cuff

Ponytail

A high ponytail is a no-fuss way to style thick hair, especially on a hot, humid day! Comb out any front or side bangs for that dishevelled look, and straighten the rest of your hair so it looks super-sleek.

5 Ways To Style A Ear Cuff

Low bun

Make like Lara Bingle and bring all your hair into a low bun, to draw attention to the ear cuff. This is a fool-proof hairstyle which is appropriate for a wedding, work, or even a more casual look. Pair with a bright, bold lip and a bronzed glow to bring out the colours of the ear cuff.

5 Ways To Style A Ear Cuff

Ear-tuck

For thin hair, keep it simple by tucking away any strays behind your ears. Pin away any loose hairs on the side, for a casual look which is wind-proof. Wear a top or dress which will only draw attention to your ear cuff, and keep the rest of your makeup looking minimal – but a pop of colour on the lips or cheeks never hurt!

5 Ways To Style A Ear Cuff

Hat

To achieve a casual look, we have taken inspiration from actress Diane Kruger to wear an ear cuff with a hat. Not only is this the best way to hide a bad hair day (we are all guilty of it!), but also to soften the dimensions of your face. Keep hair simple by leaving it down, or fasten into a side braid or ponytail.

Get The Look: Selena Gomez’s Voluminous Curls

There is no denying that singer and actress Selena Gomez, has some of the best locks in the business.

While we love her hair looking super-straight and sleek, there’s just something about a curly hairdo which is perfect for creating drama on sad, lifeless hair. Create this look at home by following our five simple steps below.

RELATED: Lara Bingle Launches The Base

Instructions

1. Start with hair that has been freshly washed and blow-dried, preferably using a volume-maximising shampoo and conditioner. Work the product into your scalp, and massage for a few minutes into the follicles of your hair.

Get the look - Selena's Voluminous Curls

Carolyn Harding Volume Maintenance Shampoo Wash, $13.99

2. When you’re just about finished in the shower, rinse hair one last time with cold water – this helps to keep hair shiny and frizz-free! While your hair is still wet, use a leave-in conditioner to control dry hair, and lock-in moisture without leaving hair too oily.

Get the look - Selena's Voluminous Curls

KMS California MOISTREPAIR leave-in conditioner, $31.95

3. To create Selena’s signature curls, use hot rollers or a curling wand. In this case, we suggest using a curling wand since it’s so much easier to use! Depending on how thick or thin you want your curls, choose a larger barrel for big curls, and a smaller barrel for tighter ones.

Grab small pieces of hair, curl from root to tip, and remember to style hair away from your face. This will ensure that your curls look natural rather than framing the face in an unflattering way.

Get the look - Selena's Voluminous Curls

John Frieda Curling Tong, $49.99

4. Spritz hair lightly with a heat protecting spray, and make sure to keep product away from the roots. Curl your hair working in sections, and start from top to bottom (this ensures that the curls on the top remain intact).

Get the look - Selena's Voluminous Curls

TRESemme Keratin Smooth Heat Protection Shine Spray, $8.04

5. Take small strands of hair from above the ears, and pin back to the sides to achieve this bombshell look. Make sure the pins are the same colour as your hair – this will disguise any hair faux-pas!

Flattering Hairstyles For Thick Hair

Thick hair is by no means the easiest texture to style; braids never stay in place, buns often feel too heavy, and curls never hold their intended style! If you want to branch out and create a fuss-free hairstyle for your thick hair, then simply try a few hairstyles below.

RELATED: Celebrity Hairstyles – 5 Of The Best Bobs

No-fuss bun

Rather than combing through all your hair and twisting it in a bun, this is a much easier style which is accommodating to thicker hair.

Divide your hair into two sections, and create a bun on the top part of your head. Divide the middle sections into two, then twist them around the bun and secure with a clear elastic. Super easy and won’t have your hair falling out of place throughout the day!

Flattering Hairstyles For Thick Hair

Voluminous ponytail

Divide your hair into two sections just like the previous hairstyle, but spray some texturising product at the roots for extra lift.

Tie the first ponytail (the upper layer), securely with a hair elastic, then do the same with the bottom. It should blend in seamlessly if your hair is one colour.

Flattering Hairstyles For Thick Hair

Classic bob

Why not get the chop and use your thick hair to pull off a short bob. Not only is this hairstyle really easy to style (especially if you hair is naturally quite straight), but you have enough volume to pull of this look without ageing your face.

Remember to apply a deep-conditioning mask to your ends once a week to keep your hair looking healthy and fresh.

Flattering Hairstyles For Thick Hair

Textured braid

Although this style only suits girls with longer layers, feel free to try it on your thick hair as well! Create a loose braid at the nape of your neck, and progressively make the braid tighter as you finish up with a clear elastic.

Tug at each side to make it more lived-in, then use a dry shampoo to create the illusion of more volume. A fishtail braid also looks really on thick hair as well!

How To Avoid Razor Burn

Let’s just set the record straight – it’s not only men who suffer from the terrible side effects of razor burn!

Sometimes even shaving your legs with a fresh blade and layers of shaving gel isn’t enough to keep the itchiness and sensitivity away. Follow just a few of our tips to get flawless legs in no-time!

RELATED: To Shave… Or Not To Shave?

DIY shaving lotion

Don’t use the same old-shaving gel packed with countless chemicals and fragrances which are probably breaking out your skin in the first place. Make your own with just a few handy ingredients straight from the pantry.

Mix together equal amounts of rubbing alcohol, witch hazel (or any other toner), 8 aspirin tablets and crush until they form a fine paste. Apply this to your skin after shaving to prevent any future rashes or razor burn.

Moisturise

After shaving your legs, it’s important to wash-off the product with lukewarm water. We don’t want the water to be boiling hot since it could only irritate your skin as well as your pores. Pat your legs dry with a towel, then immediately apply a thick, hydrating moisturiser to your legs.

Pay attention to problem areas such as ankles, behind your knees, and your knee caps since they require some extra care. This will prevent any future rashes from popping up all over your skin.

Clean razor

Sometimes using a razor which is old or blunt can lead to endless skin conditions such as razor burn. Every time you finish using it, rinse well with soap and warm water to remove any hairs or shaving gel which can build-up, and clog the blade. Pat dry with a towel and store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or running water.

Shea butter

Over-exposed pores can usually be a nightmare to deal with, especially since they can bleed when interacting with a razor. If you suffer from these bumps, it’s important to use an oil-free shaving lotion which won’t harm your skin.

Shave carefully in large strides, and don’t unnecessarily go over the area more than once. When your legs have dried, apply a sheer butter over the area and relax – this will soothe your legs and will eliminate any bumps on your pores.

Exfoliate

Do you exfoliate before or after shaving? The best time to give your skin a little TLC is before going in and shaving your legs. Run a shower or warm bath and soak for 10-15 minutes. Now is the best time to exfoliate your entire body with a formula which isn’t too drying – but still leaves skin looking and feeling flawless. Wash-off the product, then use a mild shower gel before shaving.

Deodorant

Did you know that deodorant helps to eliminate any side effects of razor burn? Dab just a bit of the thick formula on your bumps and razor burns to instantly soothe irritable skin (but only use a stick-deodorant!) Aerosol cans should not be used on exposed or cracked skin since they can make the area feel 10x worse.

Do you have any tips for treating or avoiding razor burn?

How To Make Perfect Poached Eggs

We’ve all experienced it before, right? A delicious poached egg made by a friend or from your local café is one thing, but creating your own is more like a disaster. The egg is too runny, over-cooked, or simply doesn’t resemble a poached egg at all! Below are just a few tips to create the perfect poached egg without losing your sanity!

RELATED: Creamy Mushroom Soup With Poached Egg

Method 1: Vinegar

  1. Use a large, deep saucepan, the bigger the better – and combine a generous serving of vinegar with 2 litres of water.
  2. Bring the water to a boil by cooking it on a high, then reduce back down to a medium as the pot is boiling hot.
  3. Crack one egg into a tiny cup or bowl making sure to remove any remnants of the shell with a spoon or fork (be careful not to burst the yolk!). Then carefully transfer the egg into the simmering water, try and get as close to the water as possible.
  4. Then, all you need to do is let the egg simmer for about 3 minutes before removing with a ladel.

Method 2: Without vinegar

  1. Bring a saucepan of water to a boil, this could take anywhere between 5-10 minutes.
  2. Pierce a hole into the egg with a pin or safety pin, then completely submerge into the boiling water for 10 seconds. Remove the egg with a spoon, then set aside.
  3. Reduce the heat to a gentle simmer, and crack the egg into the water. Remove any cracked shells with a spoon!
  4. Leave egg to cook for 2-3 minutes and remove with a ladle and remove excess water with a paper towel.

Method 3: Microwave

  1. Fill a small cup with a splash of water, then crack into the water a raw egg. It should sit on top of the water.
  2. Pierce the yolk slowing with a fork, this will prevent the egg from opening and exploding.
  3. Microwave for 30-60 seconds depending on the power of your microwave. Put a thin paper towel or a saucer over the top of the cup to keep it all together.
  4. When you’re done, just simply flip the saucer over!

How To Monetise Your Blog

Have you ever thought about turning your hobby into a career? Over the years both men and women have slowly been turning their blog into a business and becoming their own self-made boss. Are you interested? Find out how to work from home, and on your own terms by logging onto a few of these important websites.

RELATED: How To Make A Career From YouTube

Affiliate programs

Have you ever wondered how people make enough money to quit their day-job and focus on their blog full time? Most of it comes down to affiliate programs and aligning yourself with brands your audience can identify with. There are heaps of programs going on at the moment: Reward Style, Shop Style by Pop Sugar, and Link Share, just to name a few. These programs are highly exclusive, so don’t think that they’re going to be a piece of cake to get into. You must register your blog and all social media channels before they even approve of your application, which could take weeks to be accepted (or declined).

Once your application has been successful, this is really where the fun begins. Lets take Reward Style as an example; this company is affiliated with a number of online boutiques which you have the oppourtunity to advertise on your blog. Whether it’s fashion, beauty, home, or even lifestyle, all you need to do is link back an item in your blog-post through Reward Style. If someone buys any product by clicking through your link, then you make a percentage of the profit.

Advertising

Many blogs rely on advertising to pay their employees and generally stay afloat. Affiliate programs such as Commission Factory accept every single application and connect your blog with brands which your audience will relate to. All you need to do is display a click-through banner on your website and wait for the hits to come through!

It essentially works in the same way as an affiliate program – if someone makes a purchase of more than $50 using your link, then you receive a percentage of the profits. The profits do vary from each company, and you could be receiving anything from 3-30% from each sale you make.

How can I get started?

The first way to monetise your blog is to build a stable, and reliable audience. Create a loyal following by having a clear vision and posting on a consistent basis. This way your followers will know when to expect and post – and even look forward to it!

Do: Spread the word

Let your followers know every time you have a new post on your blog – not only will this remind them to check it, but you can always use the extra page views! Share posts on your personal Facebook account (in moderation), since the support of family and friends can always form the basis on your following.

Don’t: Neglect social media channels

It’s always a good idea to be a part of all the new social media channels, this way your followers can find you everywhere! Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, DePop, Blogspot or WordPress, and finally a visible contact address are the best way to keep your followers engaged. Just because they follow you on one social media outlet, doesn’t mean they will follow you on another. Keep content exclusive to each channel and learn how to market yourself on all your social media.

Do: Disclose sponsored posts

The dark side of blogging can also be one of the best – free products. You may be approached by a company to show one of their products in exchange for a fee, or even as a loan. It’s very important to let your followers know which products were given as gifts or sponsored by a company. Not disclosing this important information may cause your followers to lose trust in your judgement, and is currently against the law under the FTC Disclosures for Bloggers and Brands. Hashtag your posts with Ad or Sponsored before signing off – this allows you to remain truthful with your readers, and in return they will have confidence in your content and future posts.

Ultimate Oral Sex Guide

Do you know how to give the ultimate blow job? Well, there’s not a one-size-fits-all, step-by-step guide that anyone has come up with yet that can satisfy everyone, so why bother! What we are going to tell you is if you want to make his toes curl, the ultimate tip is to talk dirty to him and ask him while you’re down there. There’s not a man alive that has said, “I wish she wouldn’t talk dirty to me.” He knows what he likes, way more than we do, so we don’t need to go there.

Instead, we’re going to offer ways to improve your performance and technique. Stuff like how your attitude affects your performance, ways to reduce that annoying gag reflex, swallowing, spiting alternatives and using peppermint – all to make the experience better, for both of you.

1. Attitude

The No.1 way to boost your performance is in your attitude. It doesn’t matter if you suck like a damn Hoover, your man wants to feel like you are loving it down there and the entire experience is irresistible to you. Image if the tables were turned and he had a half-assed attitude, like he was doing you a favour, or worse he didn’t really want to be there and it totally grossed him out. It wouldn’t exactly be a turn-on.

If there are certain things you don’t like or want to do, you need to think about what they are. Either find a solution, get used to giving a very mediocre blow job or opt out all together and just don’t do it. Sex is about enjoyment for both of you. Your brain is your largest sex organ, so it’s no surprise that giving an incredible blow job needs to start here.

2. Reducing the gag reflex

Now we’ve covered your attitude, there’s lots that can be done to reduce the gag reflex. The key is remember to breathe! The gag reflex is primarily to stop us from choking, so if you are getting oxygen into your lungs, this will reduce it.

Remember, practice makes perfect. Some women have fixed really bad gag reflexes by practicing. The more you practice, the deeper you will be able to go. Other women have recommended throat numbing sprays, like the ones dentists use or sex products specifically designed to reduce the gag reflex. There’s a wide variety of options available.

Position is another key element. Some positions make it better, while others can make it worse. If it’s a problem for you, then finding the right position may be a solution. Also, being in control can be another factor. If your man’s hands are on your head, it takes away your control. You may need them off your head, so bind them up, then you can be in complete control of how deep and fast you go.

3. Swallowing and spitting

Oh, the million dollar question – what to do when he comes? Semen has an unusual taste and texture, so it’s a personal preference whether you swallow it or choose another option. If your man really likes you to swallow and it’s the taste that is the turn off, add some flavoured lube or tasty spread, which will reduce the flavour. Another tip is to have his penis deep in your mouth, so it basically shoots down your throat without touching your taste buds. This is where sprays might come in handy.

If the thought of swallowing is totally out of the question, don’t beat yourself up about it. There’s lots of other things you can do, just before he comes. For example; a popular one to finish him off, is by rubbing his penis between your breasts as you squeeze them together or you could finish him off with a hand job and direct him to come on your body somewhere. Mix things up a bit, get creative and don’t let the prospect of not being able to swallow be the one thing that affects your attitude.

4. Peppermint

If you want to give him a real treat, plus help with the taste, suck on a peppermint or gargle some mouthwash, just prior to your umm… performance. It will give him a tingling sensation, when it comes in contact with his delicate skin. Make sure the actual peppermint doesn’t touch the skin, because it can burn and irritate. This won’t only work for him, but will also feel similar to you so get him to try it next time he’s heading down there.

We’ve aimed to focus on the most significant things that affect performance. Of course, there’s so much more to it. If you have some secret tips you’d like to share, don’t be shy, we’d all  love to hear about them.
