How To Style Bangs

Cutting your hair into bangs or a shorter fringe doesn’t have to change your entire look.

Loose curls

Run through your bangs with a wide-tooth comb to untangle any knots, and keep hair silky smooth. For a natural body and bounce, avoid using too much conditioner on this part of your hair, and use a light volumising mousse on damp hair.

Curl the rest of your longer layers, and apply some dry shampoo to your scalp for extra lift! Applying a concentrated dose of sea-salt spray is also a great way to inject a little character into your bangs without using heat.

01

High ponytail

Not only is a high ponytail appropriate for any type of weather, it also looks great when paired with a full fringe! Section your hair, and secure your ponytail back with an elastic. Then use a round brush and blowdryer to create instant body on your bangs.

This is a flattering hairstyle for girls who have longer side bangs (just like Nicole Richie), and want to frame the outer dimensions of their face. Straighten any stray hairs and apply a generous coat of hairspray to keep everything in place.

02

Side bun

Shift your bangs over to one side just like Selena Gomez for a sophisticated evening look. Work with the rest of your hair to create a messy bun, and pin back any loose hairs around your face. Use a pair of straightening irons to direct hair onto one side of your face, and mist lightly with finishing spray for extra hold.

Haircare Tips For Redheads

Do you have naturally red or red coloured hair? Then you would know of the struggles that redheads have with maintaining their colour and shine on an everyday basis. Just like any other colour, redheads need to pay attention to their hair, especially in the warmer months of the year when chlorine and sea water can cause damage to the quality of colour.

Follow just some of our tips and tricks to make your hair look bright and silky all year-round.

Coconut oil

This inexpensive balm can be used for cooking, skincare, and even for your hair! Packed with loads of vitamins and minerals, you can apply raw coconut oil to your hair as a leave-in conditioner, run it through your ends, and even use as a hair mask. The fantastic thing is that you buy coconut oil almost anywhere, and the smell is pleasant so you’ll never get sick of using it!

Air dry

Sometimes heat or styling products can be the end of red hair since they not only burn the delicate ends, but can also deteriorate the colour. If you are going to dry your hair, make sure to use an oil or serum and apply it at the ends. Otherwise, it’s always a good idea to give your hair a break and let it air-dry a few times a week.

Sulfate-free

The sulfates which are found in most traditional shampoos can be a death sentence to freshly coloured red hair. Sulfates can also irritate sensitive skin, cause a flaky scalp, and even make hair colour seem dull and lifeless. Instead, you want to stick to specialised shampoos that are packed with hair-loving nutrients which won’t cause your ends to break or become brittle.

Stay out of the sun

Or just wear a wide-brimmed hat! You’ll find that red colour-treated hair can usually go lighter, or even blonde after prolonged periods of time in the sun. If this happens to you, use a hair mask at least once a week to lock-in moisture and keep your hair feeling hydrated.

Cold water

To keep your colour lasting longer, only wash your hair in cold water. Now this seems a little excessive (the thought of cold showers, that is), but it’s actually really quick and easy. All you need to do is rinse your hair with cold water just before stepping out of the shower.

This is also recommended to all women with colour-treated hair – it will make your shade last longer without another salon touch-up.

Dry shampoo

Don’t wash your hair every single day – if you do, it isn’t guaranteed that your colour will last long. Instead, use a dry shampoo the moment you can feel your hair getting a little bit greasy. Simply spray a small section of hair (usually at the roots), then massage well to avoid any white patches due to the formula. Not only will it make your hair look nice and clean, but will also give some much needed volume to sad hair.

2. Take the fourth strand and thread it around and over the second. Then reverse the direction and bring strand two over strand four.

3. Then repeat the same steps with the other side. Take the first strand and thread it around and over the third. Keep repeating this step under you reach the very bottom of your hair, and secure with a hair tie.

3 Difficult Hairstyles Made Easy

1. Apply some dry shampoo at the roots to give hair a better hold and texture.

2. Hold your hair into a high ponytail, then pinch and tug the strands at the crown to create body before securing into a top knot.

3. Loop your hair around twice halfway down the ponytail, then slowly twist it around the crown of your head on the left side, then on the right side.

4. Only secure the bun with an elastic about halfway – this will create texture within your hair, and will look like a genuine sock-bun hairstyle!

How To Get The Chop: Long to Super-Short Hairstyles

Have you ever wanted to cut your long hair into a short and edgy hairstyle, but are too afraid to take the leap of faith? Many celebrities such as Miley Cyrus and Natalie Portman have both chopped their hair for various reasons – and look amazing with their new style. Below is all the information you need to know if you’re considering changing up your hair in a big way.

It grows back

If you’re thinking about giving your hair the chop – why not just go out and do it? Decisions like this are often difficult to make, but remember that it is just hair at the end of the day.

Step by step

Instead of going to the hairdresser and getting a super-short haircut in just one session, take it one step at a time. Someone with really long hair might want to cut it up to their shoulders, then return back to the hairdresser once more for the cropped hairdo. Go back home and wash, style your hair and see how it works within your lifestyle. Before Miley Cyrus went for the big chop, she cut her extremely long hair just above her shoulders to make sure she really wanted to commit to this style.

Does it suit my face?

Before contemplating any radical hair change, make sure that it will suit your face. We have previously outlined the best hairstyles for your face shape before, so this guide should really help you to make that final decision.

Short haircuts by face shape

Pixie: This very short hairstyle works well with a fringe, with hair slightly shorter in the back and longer at the front. Best for oval, square, round and heart-shaped faces.

Wavy shag: Choose a shaggy bob which is perfect for softening the harsh edges of your face and chin. Pair with a light fringe if you want to frame the top-half of the face. Best for squares faces.

Blunt bob: A blunt bob helps to take the focus away from the structured areas of the face, and looks sweet when is slightly shorter in the back and longer in the front. Add some subtle highlights at the front of the face to highlight the cheekbones. Best for heart-shapes and square faces.

Messy chop: A soft, layered cut is a low maintenance hairstyle which is best for women who constantly want to avoid using heat products. Add a little bit of thickening spray at the roots for some texture, then scrunch product into the ends until it dries. Best for round faces.
