Boho bun

Estimated time: 10 minutes

3 Complex Hairstyles Simplified

Instructions

  1. Start with day old hair which has retained some of its natural oils – this will make it so much easier to work with!
  2. Part your hair (down the centre or to the side), then start by creating a 4cm thick braid. Fasten it with a clear elastic.
  3. Take the rest of your hair, then create a few more messy braids with the ends. Secure with an elastic, then tug at each side to make them a little more ‘lived-in.’
  4. Position a mirror in front and behind you – it will make it so much easier to see what you’re doing. Then pin each section of hair into a bun. If your hair is a little on the thick side, use a clear elastic to help secure it into place. Cover the elastic with extra hair, and pin directly over it.
  5. Use a teasing comb to tug out any shorter layers, this will help to frame your face.

Long fishtail

Estimated time: 5 minutes

3 Complex Hairstyles Simplified

Instructions

  1. This is the perfect hairstyle if you’re working with slightly oily hair, or even if it’s been freshly washed. It only involves a simple fishtail braid that is easy to achieve if you know the technique.
  2. Divide hair into two equal sections, then pull a thinner strand of hair from the left side and cross it over to the right.
  3. Repeat this step again on the opposite side, then keep alternating until you have reached the end. The secret to nailing this look is to keep hair looking neat and tidy, so make sure to position a mirror behind your back.
  4. For a messier look, tug at each side of the braid.

Sophisticated side bun

Estimated time: 10 minutes

3 Complex Hairstyles Simplified

Instructions

  1. Part your hair down the side with a comb, then gather your hair to the front.
  2. Create a side bun which covers the side of your ear, and pin back the strains of hair with an elastic or bobby pins.
  3. Take any shorter layers from the front of your hair and use a curling wand for some extra volume and bounce. Once it’s cooled down, curl it once with your finger and pin it back into the bun.

Instructions

  1. Part your hair with a thin comb from back to front, creating a small bun with the strands at the nape of your neck.
  2. Curl this up, and clip it away with a few bobby pins.
  3. Repeat this step on the very top of your scalp by parting your hair in the shape of a triangle. Start with one side, then work in sections to make it easier and cleaner.
  4. Work with each section, and simply curl the hair and curve inwards. You might require more than a few bobby pins for this step! Use as many as you need until your hair feels secure, and work from top to bottom.
  5. If you have shorter layers, let this be your guide to create a flawless, faux bob.

Soft curls

Give your hair a bouncy look by curling small pieces with a wand, or even with the use of sea-salt spray. Since your hair is short enough to dry naturally, mist lightly with sea-salt spray and scrunch with your fingers. The result? A beachy style which looks really natural, and takes less than 5 minutes to create.

Bangs

Cutting some soft bangs not only frames the entire face, but gives you a little bit more to work with. You can wear them straight, curly, or even pinned back to create the illusion of thicker hair. Our favourite way to style bangs is by using a round brush, and styling backwards with the help of a hair dryer.

High ponytail

This works best on hair which is straight and has little to no layers, and is also quick and easy! Simply comb back all your hair, and secure in a high bun. Leave out any front layers to go with this beach-inspired look.

Low bun

If your hair is extremely short and layered, then a low bun is one of the best ways to switch up your look. Use mostly bobby pins to section your hair, and create tiny braids which are perfectly for almost any outing. Don’t forget to mist lightly with hairspray for that extra hold!
