Loving Right Now: 6 New Beauty Must-Haves

This week I’m loving a fantastic range of skincare and makeup must-haves, including some amazing new natural and organic products.

Grown Alchemist Hand Cream
You know those friends who have the immaculate bathrooms with the fancy hand soap and the lovely-scented hand cream? And you know how you have major envy, wishing your bathroom was just as heavenly? OK, I’m going to show you how to get there. Bestow your bathroom with a bottle of Grown Alchemist Hand Cream Vanilla & Orange Peel (300ml, $44.95). The smell is amazing and it deeply nourishes your hands.

And don’t pass up the Mandarin & Rosemary Leaf Body Cream (120ml, $26.95), which comes in a tube so you can squeeze out every last drop and feels amazing on dry skin (which we’re probably all suffering from post-summer).

ModelCo Striptease Shine Ultra Lip Gloss
I’ve found it! The perfect your-lips-but-better lip gloss. After a never-ending search for a lip gloss that looks natural and polished, but ending up with glosses that are too glittery, or too pale, or leave a grey cast – this is it. It’s not too sticky either, but lasts through your morning latte. It looks great alone or over your favourite nude and rose lipsticks. This is my new handbag staple, I’m sure you’ll love it too. $18.

Boots Serum7 range
I started using Boots skin care while living in London – their technology is amazing and really high-end for a reasonable price. No wonder their new products sell out in seconds. The latest line is the Serum7 range which targets fine lines and wrinkles. A product I couldn’t wait to try was the Serum7 Protecting Body Serum (150ml, $19). I’d never heard of a serum for the body, so was intrigued to try this. It’s a great product for leaving the skin soft and supple – I layer it under my body cream, and after a day in the sun.

Another product I was really impressed with is Serum7 Regenerating Night Cream (50ml, $34), which felt like an overnight facial treatment – waking up with restored skin and plumped out wrinkles. All of the range is hypoallergenic, which is great news for sensitive skin.
Find the range at Amcal, Amcal Max and Guardian Pharmacies.

UltraCeuticals Even Skin Tone
We’re already missing summer, but not the pigmentation as a result of too many afternoons on the beach. UltraCeuticals Even Skin Tone Serum to the rescue! Those new freckles have diminished and my skin looks brighter and fresher, with none of the dry skin that was a legacy of our endless summer.

Ere Perez Bondi Blush and Sun Halo Highlighter
I’ve been obsessed with Ere Perez’ gorgeous makeup for years – it’s so natural, you could eat it! The latest products to celebrate 10 years of the Sydney-based beauty brand is the Bondi Blush, $37.95, and Sun Halo Highlighter, $31.95. Both are natural-looking and universally-flattering and I love layering them for nights out. And I love knowing that I’m not putting any nasties on my skin. Dr. Alkatis Organic Eye Cream
It’s no secret, I love natural and organic skin care. So I was thrilled to test Dr. Alkatis Organic Eye Cream, $66 – especially when you get to your mid-30’s and you’re obsessed with finding the best eye cream out there. This eye cream has a fantastic, light texture thanks to its base of aloe vera (and not water like other eye creams), which melts into the skin and keeps the eye area hydrated all day. I feel it really de-puffs my eyes and smoothes out those fine lines that are beginning to bother me.

Loving Right Now: 3 Foodie Finds

From the best new food app to a guilt-free summer treat, we’ve unearthed a few new foodie finds that we had to share with you!

The Cook’s Companion App
Legendary Australian chef Stephanie Alexander’s has turned her bestselling cook book The Cook’s Companion into an app, packed with a whopping 2,000 recipes.

There is no other book like The Cook’s Companion. It sits on the kitchen bench in more than 500,000 Australian homes and is regarded as an Australian classic, commonly referred to as the kitchen ‘bible’. So I was thrilled to try out the app, which was so easy to use. There are beautiful photos, how-to videos, and you can add a note to any recipe, just like you would with a cookbook.

I’ve made the pasta with prawns several times, and the chicken and leek pie is next. And the pavlova. And the roast chicken. This would make a great Valentines’s Day gift for food lovers, too.

BONDI RD by [yellow tail]
When I heard about a new range of light sparkling wines named after the iconic beach, I couldn’t wait to try it. Seriously, what’s better on a hot summer’s day than a refreshing wine spritzer? It’s a genius idea: sparkling Sauvignon Blanc with a light spritz, available in Original, Elderflower & Mint and Ginger & Green Tea. The flavours are light and refreshing and perfect for sipping on a lazy Sunday to pairing with weekend nibbles.

A 4-pack costs $18.99. We think they’d look really cute with colour-coordinated straws, don’t you?

Skinny Cow Ice Creams
These Skinny Cow ice creams lasted less than five minutes in the office. We were all over these low cow-lorie treats which now come in yummy new flavours Choc Cherry ice cream cookies, Cookies & Cream cups and Peanut Butter Sundae. They’re 97% fat free and low in calories – perfect for indulging your summer sweet tooth without cheating on your resolutions!

Loving Right Now

This week the SheSaid team is loving a new range of yummy dressings (and share a recipe for a gorgeous tuna Caesar salad), a never-leave-home-without-it travel hairdryer, and share details of a new Instagram competition where you can win a cruise!

Editor Julia Blanter reviews the new VS Sassoon Go Travel Dryer

I used to be the kind of gal who preferred to fit another pair of shoes in my luggage rather than a hairdryer, using the logic that ‘I’ll just use the  hairdryer in the hotel.’ Only to arrive and discover the sad little dryer pinned to the wall could barely warm up let alone dry my hair (and those pathetic little cords are so awkward!).

So I was thrilled to try the VS Sassoon Travel Size Hairdryer with a whopping 2000 Watts – that’s some serious drying power! On a recent work trip and running to a meeting one morning it had my hair dried and styled in record time, and now I won’t travel without it. An absolute steal at $22.95. Visit www.vssassoon.com.au.

PR and Marketing Manager Louise Crowe tries Zoosh Dressings and Mayos

I recently had the opportunity to trial Zoosh – a new range of dressings and mayos designed to ‘put the fun back in your food’. The salads arrived on a lovely spring afternoon – roast beetroot, Ceasar, orange, spinach and feta and lastly a poached chicken salad.

The dressings were provided separately to zoosh up the salads. The Just Got Laid Free Range Egg Mayonnaise (love the name!) was delicious, thick and creamy – just the way a mayonnaise should be, not like one of those thin, overly-sweet excuses you get at the supermarket.

The rest of the names are equally cheeky and fun – including All Hail The Great Caesar With A Parmesan Punch. This dressing was garlicky and full of flavour – get the seared tuna Caesar salad recipe here.

My personal favourite was the Kung Pow Sweet Chilli With A Hint Of Garlic, not only because it had a lovely, refreshing zing, but also because it was matched with my favourite salad. The poached chicken was combined with pineapple, bacon, coriander and capsicum, and when matched with the sweet chilli dressing it was a total knock out.

It took me back to a delicious meal I enjoyed at one of Neil Perry’s restaurants almost 10 years ago. I have three lovely sisters, we lead busy lives and we don’t all live in the same city. So whenever we have an occasion to get together we carve out some time to enjoy each others company.

We zoosh ourselves up too – replacing our corporate clothing and put on our loveliest outfits. We pick a great restaurant to eat at, a different one every time. The food, and a glass or two of wine, becomes the starting point. We talk about the menu and as the meal unfolds we move from light banter onto the deeper issues keeping us up at night or causing us wrinkles. We’ve had a number of lovely dinners since then, yet that salad still lingers in my memory as the greatest meal of them all.

Intern Brittany Kerin gives us the scoop on the Royal Caribbean #InstaFilmFest

Royal Caribbean is hosting the first ever International Instagram film festival. Using Instagram, people can upload a 15-second video of their very own WOW moment, using the hashtag #InstaFilmFest. The winner will win a free cruise! It can be a video of any WOW moment (not just a video taken on one of their cruises),

I chatted with Royal Caribbean’s #1 Facebook fan, Magdolna Ori, who – by the end of the year – will have been on 5 cruises in a year! Now that’s some serious cruising!

Have you been on a cruise? What was your favourite part of the cruise?
