Am I wrong in sensing just a hint of double standards here?
As one of the most popular diets over the last decade, the Macrobiotic diet is a regimen which focuses on grains and vegetables as a healthy way to maintain your weight. Praised by celebrity fans such as Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow, it’s great for coeliacs, raw-food lovers, and can even be dairy-free.
How does it work?
The Macrobiotic diet aims to eradicate all types of preservatives or fatty foods out of your diet – you won’t find any cheat-meals here. Rather than thinking of it as a strict diet, it’s actually an entire lifestyle change which relies on clean, wholesome eating and regular exercise to keep healthy for a prolonged period of time.
What can you eat?
An average meal will consist of grains and vegetables which will actually sustain the body longer than processed foods and animal meat. If you’re worried about the over-consumption of grains, there’s no reason to be. The Macrobiotic Diet encourages the consumption of many foods which have a very low glycemic index (GI) and are high in fibre (to keep your body feeling regular and bloat-free).
Stick to wholemeal grains such as brown rice and bread which are low in calories, and easier to break down in the body.
Is it a strict diet?
The diet does take a lot more effort and it does require more commitment as a complete lifestyle change. If your current diet involves a lot of processed food and animal products, you will find the Macrobiotic Diet somewhat of a shock in the initial stages. The key is to start slow, and your body won’t be craving any of the fatty foods from before.
Ease into the diet by incorporating some simple grains such as brown rice and beans into your main meals, before completely changing the way you eat.
Would you try the Macrobiotic Diet?

Popstars Madonna and Katy Perry are both known for being unexpected. When Katy Perry released her first hit single, I Kissed A Girl, in 2008 it shocked her family after being raised in a Christian household, but it caught the attention of millions of men and women around the world. Since then, she has continued to be a sex symbol.
Much like Madonna, who we all know to be controversial, contributing to her becoming one of the most influential cultural icons of our time. Her powerful songs and attitude have carried on since her first appearance to the music scene in 1982.
This month, they have joined together to show the world that age doesn’t matter when it comes to being sexy, it is confidence that’s the key. The two posed on the cover of V magazine for a bondage and S&M themed shoot.
In tight, lace and leather, with red lips and heels, the stars used rope to attach themselves to each other and show off their dominatrix flair. The collaboration seemed to go well, with Perry and Madonna stating they had a great experience.
Madonna is quoted as saying to Katy Perry:
“I really enjoyed working with you on the photo shoot. People always expect when two divas get together that there might be weird vibes or a strange competitiveness, but this was nice and easy and fun.”
Katy Perry, a lady who embraces the pin-up girl look, and Madonna, who played a pseudo-dominatrix for Complex in 2009, were right at home in this shoot. Yet, despite how the two looked, they both stressed it wasn’t as simple on the body as it seemed to be.
Perry described her experience to V Magazine:
“I was sore in my upper body and in my butt area from all that squatting.”
“It’s good to be sore in your butt. My neck is sore from that wonderful moment when I was sucking on your heel.”
I don’t think anyone can deny the stars look equally sexy, no matter their age.

Gwen Stefani says No Doubt isn’t breaking up
Gwen StefaniGood news for the many fans of No Doubt, as Gwen Stefani assures fans in an interview for Cosmopolitan magazine that the band is not breaking up. “I thought it would be a good publicity stunt to say we were breaking up, but really we’re not,” she said. “We decided after our album Rock Steady that we were going to take some time apart to pursue independent projects and I really wanted to do a movie.” Stefani has a small role as Jean Harlow in director Martin Scorsese‘s Howard Hughes biopic The Aviator starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Stefani, however, does have a new solo album coming out in August, which she describes as “a fun, ’80s-inspired, retro dance album.”
Leave Madonna aloneMadonna turns up privacy efforts
It seems Madonna and hubby Guy Ritchie are willing to go to great lengths to kept their $20 million dollar English country estate private property. It seems reports out of the UK suggest that a public inquiry opened last week to look into whether English walkers, known as “ramblers,”or hikers to us, can saunter through Madonna and Guy Ritchie’s 1,200 acre Ashcombe House estate in Dorset, southwest England–of which 100 acres has been defined as open country and therefore open to the public. The couple argues the land should be reclassified as “semi-improved” grassland because it is used for shooting game, which would define it as agricultural land and exclude it from public access. Trying to stop the nosey parkers, eh Mads?
Third time lucky for Nic Cage?Penniless waitress sweeps Nicholas Cage off his feet!
Could it be a case of third time lucky for Nicolas Cage? Rumours abound that he is about to marry Alice Kim, a 19-year-old brunette who works as a waitress at a LA restaurant, Sushi Avenue. According to The Sun newspaper, cupid struck two months ago when Nic went for a meal with his pals at the restaurant on Valentines Day. He was without a date and became so smitten with Alice during the meal that he invited her to the Oscars with him the following month. The news just gets better for the luckiest waitress in the world as the Oscar-winning movie hunk has reportedly gone one step further and proposed to her with an enormous emerald and diamond ring, which she accepted. (as you do when a spunk like Cage proposes with a massive rock!) But friends say “Nic has really fallen for this girl. She lives with her family because she can’t afford her own place. Alice loves the ring Nic gave her and she was totally amazed by his actions. She keeps pinching herself to check she’s not dreaming.” Hope he turns out to be her Prince Charming not her Prince of Darkness!
Greek gal Jen AnistonAniston Carries a Torch for Olympics
Actresses Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie are among the many stars who will carry the Olympic torch on its journey around the world. The flame was lit in Ancient Olympia on March 25 and brought to Athens’ marble stadium, where the first modern Olympics were held in 1896. It will burn at the stadium until June 4, where it starts a 46,800-mile journey across six continents, 27 countries and 33 cities with some 11,000 runners and will return to Greece July 9 for the second half of its domestic relay. The Summer Olympics will take place in Athens from August 13. Well that?s the plan so far!
Madonna Swept Away by lawsuit
Unknown, self-proclaimed singer, songwriter, director and actor Vincent D’Onofrio (no, not the kooky hunk that plays Goran in Law and Order: Criminal Intent) has launched a $10 million dollar lawsuit against Madonna and her husband, director Guy Ritchie, for allegedly stealing the idea for their remake of Swept Away in 2002. Reports from the US reveal that the superstar pair will have to front court in early May to defend the charges. If anyone deserves compensation, it should surely be those who coughed up the ticket price to see what has gone down as one of the worst films in recent movie history. D’Onofrio must be mad to want to have his name associated with arguably the worst film made in 2002.
Anyone for an ugly green ogre?
If you loved the first Shrek then you’ll be shrieking with joy that the sequel, Shrek 2, is on its way. Due for release in the States in May, the follow-up should be with us in late winter. For those of us that fell for the animated ogre, good news is that he will be back again voiced by Mike Myers as well as his love interest and princess bride Fiona, voiced by Cameron Diaz. The pair will travel to meet her parents, with their pal Donkey (Eddie Murphy) along for the ride. Julie Andrews and John Cleese join the voice cast as Shrek’s disapproving in-laws, and Antonio Banderas provides the voice of crafty cat Puss-in-Boots! Definitely look out for at the cinemas this year!
Babs makes us laugh
Rumour has it Babs aka Barbara Streisand might be taking to the silver screen once again, but this time trying out the comic role of Mrs Focker in Ben Stiller‘s new comedy Meet the Fockers. The movie is a sequel to the 2000 hit Meet the Parents, which starred Stiller, Teri Polo, Robert De Niro and Blythe Danner. It has already been confirmed that Dustin Hoffman will be playing Mr Focker in the sequel.
Only in America
Only in America would a seven-stone woman be crowned the chicken wing-eating champ of the world! Believe it or not, a seven-stone woman has beaten a 29-stone challenger by munching her way through 167 chicken wings in 32 minutes. Sonya ‘Black Widow’ Thomas beat Ed ‘Cookie’ Jarvis by just two wings to triumph in the Philadelphia Wing Bowl XII. Thousands of people turned out to watch the contest, which was eventually decided after two minutes of extra time. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports defending champion Bill Simmons could only manage third place with 151 wings. The Black Widow 36, of Virginia admitted to started eating competitively while working in a Burger King. Her track record includes eating 23 pork sandwiches in 12 minutes, seven 12-ounce hamburgers in 10 minutes, 43 tacos in 11 minutes, and 65 hard-boiled eggs in six minutes and 40 seconds. Second-placed Jarvis, from New York, holds world records for eating 21 cannoli in six minutes and 91 Chinese dumplings in eight minutes. Now we know we don’t want to sit next to them at a family gathering! These guys sound like they would give the Klumps a run for their money!
Everybody loves children’s books!
Move over Madonna – Everybody Loves Raymond?s Ray Romano is encroaching on your publishing territory! The Emmy-winning star is writing a children’s book called Raymie, Dickie, and the Bean: Why I Love and Hate My Brothers which publishers are describing as “the funny and true story of why brothers can be gross, disgusting and downright mean ? but still love each other.” Romano?s first publishing venture will be co-written with his brothers Richard and Robert. “When my brothers and I weren’t fighting with each other, we had a lot of fun growing up,” says Romano. “Now it’s great as adults to collaborate with them on this book and fight with each other once again.” Let?s hope the children?s book is as funny as the award winning comedy Everybody loves Raymond.
Bitchy Spice?Mel C says Victoria Beckham‘s new music is “atrocious and weak” and says she should enjoy her family and “give music a rest”. The former Spice Girl, who has embarked on a turbulent solo career of her own, was not impressed with Mrs Beckham’s new double A-side single This Groove and Let Your Head Go. Mel reportedly said, in an interview with a UK radio station, that Let Your Head Go, an R&B track, was “terrible”. “I thought it was atrocious – I’m not being horrible, I’m just giving my opinion. I thought it was a terrible song. Lyrically it was weak.” Mel C also reckons she should spend more time playing the good wife and mother “If I was Victoria I would enjoy my husband, enjoy my family, enjoy the money that they’ve got and give the music a rest,” she said. ?She’s got such a great life – I don’t know why she doesn’t just sit back and enjoy it. But she’s very headstrong – she does exactly what she wants,” added Mel. Words of wisdom from someone who admires what Mrs Beckham has achieved, or sour grapes from someone who is envious of her fairytale life? Hmmm???
Orlando chills out in London ?Heart throb actor Orlando Bloom has revealed to UK magazine Now that he has bought a house in London and now all he wants for Christmas is some time off to relax. He has become a major Hollywood star (and major spunk!) since he appeared in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Pirates of the Caribbean with broody Johnny Depp. But Orlando says he’s been finding it hard to cope with the persistent press attention that goes with his movie success. “I’ve bought a place in London and I’m having my first break in a long time. I’m going to furnish it, get back to watching some movies and get myself sorted out,” he said. “At one point, I was tempted to squeeze in another film. But it would have been crazy to keep up that pace, so I’m going to try to relax and find the resources to come back. “I’m not complaining, but there hasn’t been a moment to pause and take stock. I feel as if I’ve been in a time warp from the age of 22 to 26.” Doesn?t sound like he will have too many problems finding women to help him relax with in his new London digs ? volunteers anyone??
Madonna offers advice to J.Lo
Pop diva Madonna thinks J.Lo and Ben Affleck got their just desserts in having to cancel their wedding due to the media attention. Madonna revealed, on US TV show Access Hollywood that, “To a certain extent, they courted the media attention.” Madonna?s advice to Lopez and Affleck included considering a marriage as “a part of the relationship that you keep private.” She said that she’s not judging them, but added, “If you have a strong relationship, a lot of media attention can break it up.” Good advice from the woman that has been in the pubic eye for almost 20 years now and has been happily married to director Guy Ritchie for the last 3 years!
Wolverine turns into Bond
Hugh Jackman has been tipped as the new industry favourite to take over from Pierce Brosnan as the next James Bond. The Aussie hunk will have even more women drooling if he dons the famous superspy tuxedo. The role will be vacated by the devishly handsome Pierce Brosnan after the next Bond installment. The X-Men star is thought to be top of the list of potential replacements. “A list of possible successors has been drawn up, and Hugh is at the top,” said a source at 007 moviemaker Eon. “He’s got everything the producers are looking for — dark good looks, an athletic build, a sense of humour and box-office clout. At 35, he is also the right age.” Bond director Lewis Gilbert said: “You can’t have someone too young playing Bond because they would never be believable in the part.” You can have our vote any day Hugh ? after his latest gig on Broadway maybe he could it be the man with the golden taps shoes?
Legally Blonde has baby number 2
Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe have just welcomed baby number two, a little boy they named Deacon. The pair already have a daughter, Ava who is four years old. Deacon Phillipe was born on October 23, at a LA hospital. “The family is very happy and doing well,” publicist Nanci Ryder said. But now that little Deacon has joined the Witherspoon-Phillippe household, the new parents plan on spending some quality family time together. ?I want to be with my baby and my little girl,” Witherspoon said. “I want some real family time, because I’ve been working a lot over the last two or three years. I love to stay home with my family, to hang out and be a mom and organize my daughter’s life. That feels very natural to me.”
Sir Paul McCartney and new wife Heather Mills have confirmed they have become parents of a baby girl named Beatrice. The couple has said they are ecstatic, adding: “She is a little beauty.” The newest little Beatle was born in a north London Hospital and weighed in at a healthy 7lbs. Apparently Sir Paul and Heather knew the sex of the youngster all along and had even chosen her name, proving some stars can keep a secret when they want to.
Zeta-Jones back in court again
Catherine Zeta-Jones filed a lawsuit last week in US Federal court seeking over $30 million dollars from the cosmetics firm Caudalie for running an ad campaign claiming the actress “was spotted buying the complete Caudalie range of skincare” and had used the company’s anti-aging spa in Las Vegas. The Oscar-winner says, in her lawsuit, that she has never purchased such products, nor did she receive services from the spa. Catherine Zeta-Jones is obviously keen to hose down any association with Caudalie cosmetics as she has an exclusive deal to promote Elizabeth Arden cosmetics and is keen to prove that Caudalie cosmetics had no right to use her name in promotions. Looks like she will have her day in court yet again!
Madonna has new number 1 hit
Not to be outdone in the literary stakes by Harry Potter, Madonna has scored yet another number 1 hit, this time with her first children?s book The English Rose. ?It demonstrates once again that Madonna has an extraordinary gift for communicating with children of all ages,? said Nicholas Callaway, CEO of Callaway Arts & Entertainment, the book?s US publisher, in a statement issued last week. Not bad for a working mum of two kids!
Elton John downscales
After a lifetime of flamboyant extravagance, reports out of the UK suggest that singer Elton John is going all minimalist and selling off the contents of his London home. The contents include all sorts of fabulous furnishings including Elizabethan paintings, Art Deco beds, lamps, gilt mirrors, glass baubles, candelabras, tables, clocks, statues, a full dining suite and dinner service, two complete sitting rooms and several bedrooms. According to reports, the booty will be auctioned off by glamour auction house Sotheby’s on September 30. So save up your pocket money for that sale!
More tea, Ms Aniston?
And speaking of Queens, Jennifer Aniston looked ready for a tea party with the Queen in her Emmys ensemble. Her plain, low-cut navy frock contrasted with the abundance of floor length ball gowns on display around her, and the shorter hemline allowed Jennifer the opportunity to flash her bronzed and shapely legs.
More same-sex snogging
Madonna, Britney and Christina?s party pash at the recent MTV Awards seems to have kicked off an alarming trend of same-sex snogging. Brad Garrett and Gary Shadling swapped spit in front of millions of viewers during the opening minutes of this, the 55th Annual Emmy Awards.
Tell us who you think was best or worst dressed and why? The best response will earn themselves a pack of she said goodies…
How come all the fab shows that won all the awards at this years Emmys are on late (or not at all) in Australia? TheSopranos, The West Wing, Six Feet Under and what about all those multi-award winning mini-series?
The West Wing unexpectedly won the Best Drama Series Emmy again, for the fourth year straight, beating popular mafia drama The Sopranos. Meanwhile, Edie Falcowon her third Best Dramatic Actress Emmy for her work on The Sopranos. She when asked to comment on The West Wing?s win said, ?I don?t know. I don?t know how this stuff works.?
Everybody Loves Raymond finally took out the much coveted Best Comedy award for the first time and Doris Roberts took home an Emmy for the third time as Ray Romano?s mother. Brad Garrett, who plays Ray?s brother in the hit comedy took home his second Emmy for his supporting role in the series.
Good news finally for Debra Messing of Will & Grace as she finally broke the drought and won her first Emmy for the show after being the bridesmaid for the past four years. “It’s so shocking and so amazing,” Ms. Messing said. “It’s something I never imagined for myself. This is otherworldly. I’ve never allowed myself the ability to dream this far.”
The stars turnout for McCartney wedding
Stella McCartney‘s wedding guest list read like a who?s who of global celebrities, everyone from gal pals Madonna, Kate Moss,Gwyneth Paltrow and the man of style himself, Tom Ford – Stella?s boss from Gucci ? were all in attendance. James Bond aka Pierce Brosnan even made an appearance to witness the marriage. Stella and publisher, Alasdhair Willis were wed in a private ceremony at Mount Stuart House on an island off the west coast of Scotland. Other groovy guests included singers Chrissie Hynde and Sharleen Spiteri, as well as Gwynnie?s boyfriend (not fianc?e!) Chris Martin, of Coldplay and actress Liv Tyler.
Around 150 guests attended the lavish party in the Victorian Gothic house owned by the former racing driver Johnny Dumfries, the Marquis of Bute, last weekend. Hynde, formerly the lead singer of the Pretenders, said that the bride looked “beautiful” in a fawn wedding dress said to have been inspired by the outfit worn by her late mother Linda McCartney when she married Sir Paul McCartney. It is rumoured that Sir Paul paid almost $6 million Aussie dollars to keep those pesky papparazi away from the wedding in attempt to keep the marriage of his fashion- designer daughter Stella a private affair.
Celebrity Cash Cows
According to the 2004 Guinness Book of World Records, Cameron Diaz topped the list as the biggest earning female celebrity for the year 2001/2002 with a massive AUS$80 million pay cheque for the year! Diaz wrecked Julia Roberts quest to be Queen of Hollywood by out-earning her for the first time and catapulting Diaz to the top of Hollywood’s A-list actresses. The pair were closely followed by Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Lopez in the rich chicks stakes. Funny man Adam Sandler earned almost $90 million Aussie buckaroos, in taking out the male stakes for biggest, fattest pay cheque in one year just beating Demi Moore?s ex-old man Bruce Willis by a whisker. Who wants to be a millionaire? Or is that mullionaire, as Eddie Maguire would say?
We want you as a new recruit…
?says the CIA to Alias star Jennifer Garner. According to officials, the spunky star said she has been asked to contribute to an official CIA video promoting the government agency to be shown to university graduate students and prospective agents. “We feel that Miss Garner, both in character as agent Sydney Bristow and as herself, embodies the intelligence, enthusiasm and dedication that we’re looking for,” Chase Brandon, from the CIA told reporters. “Her participation would add a human touch to the message we’re trying to convey.”
Jackman hits paydirt with Boy from Oz
Hugh Jackman has taken Broadway by storm with more than $250K in tickets being sold in the first day of ticket sales in New York to his newest gig. Jackman’s makes his Broadway debut in The Boy From Oz on October 16 2003. The Australian producer of the show Ben Gannon described the massive ticket sales as a great result for the musical, which focuses on the life and songs of flamboyant entertainer Peter Allen. Jackman?s contract for the all-singing, all-dancing show is believed to be more than $13 million dollars for the 12-month season. Hope Hugh still calls Australia home after this!
Connelly gives birth to boy
Actress Jennifer Connelly and husband Paul Bettany (also an actor) celebrated the birth of their first child together last Tuesday, said publicist Cari Ross. The couple did not release any other details of the baby?s birth. Connelly met her future husband on the set of A Beautiful Mind where Bettany played Nash?s mysterious classmate. Talented Connelly took home an Oscar for her role as the wife of mathematics genius, John Forbes Nash played by Russell Crowe. Connelly has said that she and Bettany did not start seeing each other until about a year after filming ended and they were married in December last year at a private ceremony in Scotland. Connelly, 32, has a five-year-old son, Kai, from a previous relationship.
Madonna Publishes Children’s Book
Madonna is planning a global assault on bookstores September 15 with the release of her first children’s book, The English Roses, which will be published simultaneously in 30 languages and 100 countries, according to reports. Madge will travel to Paris to unveil the first of five volumes in September. Details of the singer, actress, model and mother?s highly anticipated first book remain under wraps until the release date but media reports said the fables would contain elements from kabbalah, an esoteric, mystic offshoot of Judaism. Don?t think J. K. Rowling if Madge writes like she acts.
Panel star has a son
Favourite local TV and radio celebrity Kate Langbroek and husband Peter Lewis have become the proud parents of a baby boy. Lewis Jan Lewis was born at the Freemason?s hospital last Thursday after a very long labour. Not one to rest on her laurels, Langbroek, who appears on The Panel, was on the phone with Nova breakfast show colleagues Dave Hughes and Dave O’Neil less than 2 hours after the birth. She described her bundle of joy as “perfect? apart from the red hair.”
Another one bites the dust
Celebrity gardener, host of the hugely successful TV reality renovation show The Block Jamie Durie, is officially off the market. Sorry chicks. News is that the former Manpower spunk popped the question to girlfriend Siobhan Way, a jewellery designer from Perth last week, although we?re yet to hear the details of the proposal. The pair has been dating for less than a year and are the latest in a recent spate of celebrities to catch the love bug in recent weeks. 60 Minutes reporter Peter Overton also proposed in the last week and received the nod from gorgeous newsreader Jessica Rowe!
Titanic endeavour for Kate Winslet
Titanic star Kate Winslet and her new husband, American Beauty director Sam Mendes, are expecting their first baby in January, according to reports out of London. “They are both delighted with the pregnancy,” said Chloe Dunbar of Premiere PR in London, which represents Mendes. Winslet has a 3-year-old daughter Mia from her previous marriage to director Jim Threapleton. The glamorous couple wed in secret in a romantic garden wedding in early May this year, and by all accounts knew they were in the family way before the ceremony in the Caribbean. Dunbar said the happy couple were currently on vacation in Italy.
Sean Connery ? accent the pits!
According to a poll by UK movie magazine Empire, Oscar-winner Sean Connery has been named the actor with the worst film accent of all time. Edinburgh-born Connery may have won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and a Golden Globe in 1988 for his performance as Irish cop Jim Malone in the 1987 film The Untouchables, but movie experts agreed his accent was the pits. “Whether he’s a Russian sub captain (The Hunt for Red October) or even an English king (First Knight and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves), always that baritone Highland burr remains,” one critic said in the magazine’s August edition.
Say what? The worst on screen accents revealed?
Others notable mentions went Heather Graham for her would-be British accent as a prostitute in Jack the Ripper flick From Hell; Julia Roberts for another dodgy attempt at a British accent in Mary Reillyand, surprisingly, the queen of accents,Meryl Streep, got the thumbs down for her bash at a Danish accent in Out of Africa. The still-luscious Brad Pitt got a no-confidence vote for his attempted Austrian-accented in Seven Years in Tibet, but actually redeemed himself with a stunningly good ?Pikey? accent in the cult film Snatch, where he played a bare fist Gypsy boxer. Aye!
Madonna and Tony Blair ? pen pals?
Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie(Snatch), have written to UK Prime Minister Tony Blair complaining that a planned walkway just 100 yards from their country mansion in Wiltshire, southern England, would allow curious sightseers and paparazzi to get up close and personal with their young family at home. Blair is obviously a Madonna fan as the couple has won their battle. The Countryside Agency said the singer was among hundreds of local residents who filled out a comment sheet about proposed changes to walkways in the area, and that the Material One was not solely responsible for the path plans being scrapped.
Madonna, mind the gap!
Has Madge become the Material Merchandiser? According to London’s Guardian Unlimited, Madonna has finally gone all commercial on us! Following the well-trodden path of fellow fashion-endorsing celebs, the Material Girl is set to spruik for US clothing label Gap. Both Madonna and hip-hop funkster Missy Elliot are the latest recruits for the retail giant?s upcoming next campaign, aired in the US in later this month. Word has it that TV commercials will feature Madonna’s Eighties dance hit Into the Groove while the queen of song bops along in khakis, t-shirts and jeans. No one at Gap would go into the specifics about the deal but needless to say it?s bound to be worth more than a few free pairs of cargo pants to old Madge.
J.Lo is soooo faithful
Jennifer Lopez wants the world to know that she was never unfaithful to her second husband Cris Judd! She?s also made it clear, in a Reader’s Digest interview published last week, that she definitely didn’t sleep with new fianc? Ben Affleck until she had separated from husband number two. In case you were wondering, (which we weren?t) J.Lo wants the world to know that she was, in fact, “a very faithful person.” Lopez and Affleck, one of Hollywood’s most-talked-about couple, met in 2001 on the set of the soon-to-be released comedy Gigli, but according to the 32-year-old singer/actress/entertainer/model she and Judd were already having problems at that point in their marriage. Lopez filed for divorce from Judd in July 2002, after less than a year of marriage, and became engaged to Affleck, 30, four months later. Lopez said that after two failed marriages, she was working hard at her new relationship. “We talk about everything (with) brutal honesty? And when you do that nothing’s left to chance,” she said. Let?s hope so for everyone?s sake!
Brolin leads Lane down aisle
Looks like actress Diane Lane is ready to give up the single life – she has just become engaged to spunky fellow thesp Josh Brolin(Goonies). The Unfaithful babe said yes to Brolin?s proposal on the fourth of July weekend. The couple, who like to keep their private lives private have not revealed any details about proposal nor the forthcoming nuptials. Bummer we love news of a good romantic proposal!
Hopefully it will second time lucky for both of the actors who have each taken a stroll down the aisle once before. Lane was hitched from 1988 to 1994 to Highlander actor Christopher Lambert, with whom she had a daughter, Eleanor. Brolin, who grew up in Hollywood, (his father is legendary actor James Brolin) was married to actress Alice Adair from 1989 to 1992. He was also engaged to Matt Damon?s ex- British actress Minnie Driver – the pair set to tie the knot in 2001. The nuptials were called off, and with no official reason given, the rumour mill spun into overdrive citing a supposed spat between Minnie and Brolin?s step-mother, none other than the Queen of Divas herself, Barbra Streisand, over the wedding plans. Ohhh wouldn?t you have loved to have been a fly on the wall during that catfight?
Honeymoon baby for Russ and Danielle
The recently hitched Mr and Mrs Crowe have finally confirmed, through TV host Ray Martin that they are in the family way. Oscar-winner Russell Crowe, star of epic films including Gladiator, and A Beautiful Mind is set to star in his biggest role to date, that of dad. New wife Danielle is reportedly 14 weeks pregnant and apparently feeling all the effects. Last year, the former Miss Spencer vowed to make Rusty a dad before his 40th birthday, and with a bundle of joy due in January 2004, she is going to make good with her promise. Crowe turns 40 on April 7, next year, which is also the couple?s first anniversary.
One of the stars ? and that fact that she is not made to carry the entire film is probably one of the things that saves her ? is a toothy, titsy Britney Spears. I can?t help thinking that had she been a fabulous nobody rather than one of the world?s biggest-earning iconic pop-divas, Britney would have made an impression on viewers of this light as air road trip as a confident and dare I say credible actress. I?m not talking Academy Award performances here, but I have I have a confession to make. Britney did not suck nearly as much as you would have thought/hoped.
Her portrayal of a virginal high school graduate determined to ditch her one horse town in favour of a recording career in LA is hardly a stretch for Ms Spears. But this is the beauty of Crossroads and ultimately the reason why she doesn?t suck in this film in the way that her singing sisters ? Madonna, Mariah et al, have done in theirs.
The casting gods have shone on Britney and her modest acting skills are shown in a favourable, flattering light. Despite this, critics have been primed to pounce on this, the latest crossover of a singing starlet into the world of celluloid. And had I only stayed to watch the first five minutes of this warm and fuzzy little number, I too could have drawn some scathing conclusions.
The action commences with Britney karaoke-ing along to a Madonna song, soupspoon as microphone in hand, writhing and bucking her taut, brown, underwear adorned body on the bed. You could be forgiven for thinking that this was the start of a very different kind of film?
But Crossroads isn?t a different kind of film at all. It is a light, quasi-wholesome, sometimes funny teen film exploring, though for the most part superficially, the issues of friendship, first love, sex and its consequences. It?s not the kind of film you?re going to want to rush out and see right this second, but if you happen to be caught at the crossroads, well, that might not be such a bad thing?

Our singing sensation Ms Minogue apparently stormed off stage on Monday night at the Smash Hits awards in the UK after not winning a gong. After stealing the show with a sexy performance of “I can’t get you out of my head”, Kylie flew into rage after she discovered she would not be awarded a prize. Not wanting to pose for any official photographs, onlookers reported that Minogue left annoyed for not winning.
Single mum-to-be Liz Hurley had to call in the police yesterday after a crazed stalker appeared at her London home. The obsessed fan was pleading to see the producer/model as he repeatedly
