Instructions

1. Use a conditioning treatment on the length of your hair, making sure to let it absorb for 5-10 minutes before washing out with lukewarm water. It will help to keep any excess frizz away – especially mixed with the summer heat!

Milkmaid Braids Hair Tutorial

You don’t need to be a hairdresser or experienced YouTuber to create a killer hairstyle, and this week we’re focusing on milkmaid braids. This easy to achieve hairstyle takes just minutes (depending on the thickness and length of your hair), and creates an elegant up-do using just hairspray and bobby pins.

What you will need:

Comb

Hairspray

Bobby pins (and a lot of them)

Instructions

1. Comb through your hair to ensure that there aren’t any knots or tangles. Start from top to bottom, slowly making your way down the length of your hair. For wavy hair, straighten your hair slightly with a straightening iron to ensure that your hair is easier to work with.

2. Divide your hair into two sections, and start braiding your hair in the back (at the nape of your neck). Braid all the way down, then secure with an elastic band. Repeat the same step on the other side.

3. Now flip one braid onto the opposite side of your head, and tuck behind your ear. Pin it down securely. Do the same with the other side, making sure to have the braids completely cross over.

4. If you have stray pieces of hair at the front of your face, feel free to curl these with your hands or a curling wand for an extra bohemian look.

Demi Lovato looks cute as a button in milkmaid braids. L.A.’s first braid bar Assembly Salon shares their tips on how to create this fun summer hairstyle that’s perfect for thick or long hair.

1. Prep hair with Kevin Murphy’s Easy Rider to de-frizz and give hair the best grip to braid. For an undone look, add a 20 cent piece size of Kevin Murphy Hair Resort.

2. Part hair starting right above your left eyebrow. Starting at the part, create a medium rectangular piece and separate into three pieces.

3. Cross the right out-most over the centre then add some hair to what used to me the right out-most strand (now centre).

4. From the right side, cross the left-most over the centre then add some hair to what used to be the left-most strand (now centre).

5. Continue your braid until you wrap around and reach the centre back of your head.

6. Secure braid with a clear elastic. Secure remaining hair in a messy chignon.

7. Mist hair with Kevin Murphy’s Session Spray for a lasting hold.
